    It's scientifically proven that people who bitch about the narrator's voice on a powerlifting channel can't even deadlift 315.

    But in terms of assessing the competitors and what's going in the scene... this is the best channel.

    Interesting comparison, even if John Haack is "better" today, Ed Coan is still just as good because he did it so long ago. Today it's much easier to find information, and equipment is much cheaper. I think that's why Ed Coan was so crazy, because even today the best guys around still are close.

    Not only did Coan set massive records, but he also did it at a time where even the heavyweights weren’t keeping up. He wasn’t just the strongest lifter in his class he was the strongest lifter overall, which I think has to be taken into consideration.
    Another thing which makes Coan’s legacy stick is that he competed at a very high level for a very long time, you can’t become GOAT if you are a flash in the pan. If John can stay on top for the next ten years and keep chipping away, which he has been doing, he will surpass Coan.
    I can’t remember the exact numbers but I think Coan benched 500 and over like 40 something times in competition, this should be a factor.
    How many competitions did he win even if he wasn’t setting a new record? I think this should play into the GOAT status, not just a all time world record.
    On top of this Coan held the deadlift record in four different weight classes at the same time if I’m not mistaken, and I think these records stood for close to 20 years. Not only did he set all these records, but he did it in full power meets, and when most of them were broken it was deadlift only.
    I think John Haack has the potential, but so did Jesse Norris and he is all but forgotten now, so he needs to stay on top for at least the next 10 years before he can be called GOAT

    • @littlethuggie
      @littlethuggie 2 роки тому +1

      All that stuff is cool, but in a completely objective sport, where the biggest number literally wins, not sure if the other factors would make you the best ever. Longevity and other traits could make you the most dominant, but I want the one lifting the biggest numbers. Which still happens to be Ed by a small margin due to his squat.

      @Alp Tmr he was on top for 20 years, competed in the biggest meets against the best lifters and won overalls for years. His deadlift records have only just been chipped by Russian super wide sumo pullers competing in deadlift only meets on a bendy bar with giant plates. You need a reality check.

    During my re-entry back into powerlifting after 30 years I am spending the bulk of my time on this channel. I remember following Ed Coan very closely back in the day, as I, like him, started in the 165 lb class. He kept gaining weight, while I remained @ 165. This video brought me right back there...and right into today as well with Haack.
    I like your style, your attitude, and most importantly the quality content. Thanks man.

    Tough to compare. Training knowledge & nutrition are so different. I mean back when Coan did it, people were swilling down raw eggs Rocky style and Waddington had just become the first person to squat 1000 in a competition. Coan was moving unheard of numbers for that era. Now it seems like folks are putting up big numbers all the time. I think they're both studs for their respective competition eras. Belkin can challenge Haack, whereas Coan had no one close.

      Mike Bridges outlifted Coan at 181, squatting 838, benching 529, and DL 737. Only 181 ever to hit 2100, and did so with old techniques, very minor squat suit( they WERE very limited, I wore them, I KNOW)and completely raw on bench and DL. Both guys would have been significantly better today using all current nutrition, etc. Coan was better than Hack, and Bridges was better than both at 181. Bridges retired very young and never went up to 198( until a comeback in his 50’s), let alone all the way to 242 like Coan. He would have undoubtedly hit close to broken 2200 if he’d continued into his late 30’s and even more if he’s been around today. He was the GOAT relative to talent, but Coan’s longer career and span of multiple weight classes have to make him the GOAT for an entire career.
