Today we’re making the Golden Cadillac 2 ways! I associate this drink with the holidays because that’s when I enjoy these rich dessert cocktails. In Wisconsin, we turn everything into a milkshake (because it’s good that way), so I always thought the Golden Cadillac was supposed to be blended with ice cream. However, we should acknowledge how it was originally intended to be served (spoiler - it’s without ice cream). Luckily, both versions are pretty darn tasty, so I’m okay with having to drink two. Cheers, everyone!

Hey Anders! I just got my first bartending job this year at a place that I shouldn’t be able to get with no experience. I know a part of the reason I got the job is bc of my drinks knowledge and passion for cocktails. I wanted to thank you bc your videos first sparked my interest in the history and crafting of cocktails. I bought so many of the books you suggested and studied them. Your videos can literally (and have literally) changed ppls lives. So thank you!
Thanks so much for the comment. Happy the content's been helpful, and love how your applying your new interest. Congratulations on the new gig and best of luck! Cheers
@@AndersErickson Cheers!
prepare for the downhill spiral that is bartending. Good luck
Remember that a Rusty nail are two parts scotch and one part Drambuie according to a certain ww2 GI and myself.
I’m in the same boat as well! I’ve had no experience but got a head bartending position where I’m designing menus and choosing weekly specials!!!
I saw the title and before it started playing I was telling my wife how I used to go to a small bar in the foothills where they served Golden Cadillacs (this was in the early 1980's). Was pleasantly surprised to see that bar, Poor Reds, getting some well deserved cred. Now I need to get a bottle of Galliano.
THE STORY IS TRUE! I am a professional food photographer in the Sacramento area and have had many photo shoots at Poor Reds! I have taken lots of pictures of the Golden Cadillac myself, made by their bartenders. They are very proud of the cocktail! So happy to see it featured on the channel, as a local Northern Californian! 😊
If you release a milkshake cocktail episode, please remember to also release a 6 month exercise program after.
Oof. No joke
Hey. A "whole milkshake episode". YES, PLEASE!
Has anyone ever made a cocktail called a Pink Cadillac? Seems like we need that on this earth.
+++ 100% Agree. plese do a milkshake episode. perhaps even, a thickshake?? i'm in Australia an its freaking hot here... need cool drinks
Yes!
“Wisconsin… we turn everything into milkshakes”😂 That almost made me spit my grasshopper milkshake!😂 You’re absolutely right though. I grew up on alcoholic milkshakes. Yeah, I said grew up on; it’s Wisconsin. Cheers!
I’ll top with there was a time when in New Orleans if you could see over the bar you could drink. My brother & I had to eight days to be legal again to drink because we could at 18 but the federal government told Louisiana if y’all want to keep it at 18 (last in the union) we’ll take your highway money eight days later we turned 21
I'm from Maryland, and I grew up with the eternal choice of red or green for ice cream. Turns out it was creme de mint or grenadine. Guess mom wanted some peace and quiet?
In the spirit of holiday drinks, I’m begging for an episode dedicated to Brandy/Cognac. I am so lost every time I go to the liquor store and have to decide what brandy to get 🙃
Yes please
Beautiful Dog😁👍
That restaurant selling more Galliano reminded me of the fact that the place that sells the most Benedictine in the world is a Working Mens Club in the Lancashire town of Burnley. It’s because the local regiment was posted to where they make it in WW1 and it’s been passed down for over 100 years.
That is so cool. Thank you for sharing. 😊❤
Yes! A whole milkshake episode, please!
The best way to enjoy a gold Cadillac is at the bar of Poor Red’s waiting for your ‘que.
Can't wait to try this! I'm still hoping for a video about Negus (from Dickens' A Christmas Carol).
Hey! I live just outside of El Dorado and have been to Poor Red’s many times for their Barbecue. Never heard this story. I’m trying this drink tomorrow.
I appreciate this channel. And Freya is such a Good Dog.
I’ve had that bottle for 20 years. The larger one. I can now use it !!!!
Had a bottle of Galliano from the 70s it was very different from what you get today. 2023 Galliano is very anise and alcohol forward. The 70s Galliano was smooth balanced and complex, the taste can best be described as a liquid gingerbread house.
Awesome cocktail Anders!! You're fellow Wisconsinites would be proud you turned it into a milkshake. That would be cool if you could turn any cocktail into a milkshake. I bet a tiki cocktail milkshake would be mind blowing.
Is Wisconsin style a Golden Cadillac with snow tires?
Hi Anders…I think I would go for the milkshake version…..such a beautiful and festive drink….you are on a roll Anders!!!!👌👌😁😁❤️❤️ Enjoy your weekend and as always “CHEERS!”🍹
I really enjoy your episodes on this kind of dessert cocktails! Will gladly watch more videos on milkshake cocktails!
I tried making it tonight. I was missing the heavy cream, so I used some Trader Joe's Gingerbread ice cream that I had in the freezer. Yum.
Would be interesting to compare made with other liqueur. Strega?
Another good drink for the season. And if you have that bottle of galliano open, you should try a Galliano Sour! I have a lot of friends that like that cocktail a lot because it‘s a perfect mix of sweet, smoky and sour. Keep up that good work and a milkshake cocktail episode sounds like fun :)
Thanks for making my holiday cocktail menu from your last 2 videos! Hot Toddies for something warm and the Gold Cadillac to cool off with. Always worth waiting to watch you at the end of each week. Cheers Anders!
Cheers and happy holidays!
All your drinks look great! ❤ Definitely do milkshake episode! ❤❤❤ It's so yummy!
My wife and were introduced to the golden Cadillac at Poor Reds's in El Dorado in the early 1980's. We went there after rafting on the American River. If I remember correctly, they did a blended version with Galliano, creme de cocoa, half and half and ice. Served with a slab of ribs, it was fantastic!
Awesome! Was it garnished with Nutmeg or Chocolate shavings?
Yup, always blended, no nutmeg or chocolate garnish.
I tried this with orange juice at a bar. It is mindblowing!
I’m surprised it is not the original intend. There’s a recipe at Difford’s guide 🍊
Thank you, Anders! I prefer the milkshake version myself coming from the upper Midwest myself. Always a great New Year’s drink. Just don’t give the pup too much. Don’t ask how I know….
Freya a cutie!
had one of dem at dat dere "at random" dontcha know. those wisconsin milkshake cocktails are always wonderful.
Had my first Poor Red’s Golden Cadillac in the early 90’s. It was such a shock to hear you spotlight El Dorado, CA- Where you can still order a GC at Poor Red’s Bar-B-Q to this very day. Fun stuff! Thanks, Anders🙏🏻
another fun history lesson! excited to make the blended version
I remember seeing the big Galliano bottles in Italian restaurants on an upside-down holder with a spigot. Looked so cool 😅
I have been bingeing on white chocolate milkshake lately, so I might try it with Galliano. It's funny how you crave the thing you're allergic to, I'm lactose intolerant. Not gonna stop me buying litres of the stuff, and lactase pills.
Speaking of immersion blenders, a long while ago I was into an aquafaba sour kick (I just love chickpeas and since you get the stuff free in every can ...) and I was looking at all the techniques, the dry shake, the reverse dry shake and then I thought, why not just use an immersion blender? Wonderful idea, especially since you don't have the cold to lock the containers together in the dry shake and you don't get the same mess with an immersion blender. (Of course, you need to be by a sink because it still drips and everything; time to clean it.)
Love this idea and going to try it myself. Cheers!
I love Frea's (sp?) judgy look. :)
Checking every couple of months to binge-watch your vids. Love your work, thanks.
To be honest, most cocktail creation stories sound like urban legends 😅 But regardless whether they are true or not, it does help sell the drinks! As Mark Twain said, "never let the truth get in the way of a good story". Cheers Anders & Az!
I, a fellow Wisconsinite, thoroughly enjoy a White Russian milkshake.
My dog’s name is Freya too! And she loves chewing on ice haha 😂
Holding out for the frozen Manhattan variation. 😉
When Oz told you immersion blender, I thought, " Perfect pair." This is definitely something to try this holiday season. Thanks, you are amazing.
YUM!!! Just made this cocktail and LOVE! Perfect for the Holidays. Thanks Anders!
If anyone remembers Greg Allman this was his drink in the 70’s used to drink them with him in Naples Florida
Try using .25 of an amaro to really round it out. Kris Peterson and Corban Kell of Mordecai and Billy Sunday have worked on using amaro to really round out these desert cocktails
1:00 Freya's face is like... "why the heck am I hear if you are not gifting me anything" 🤣🤣🤣
Wahoo,that looks so good.
A B-52 makes an excellent milkshake cocktail
Wisconsinite here, all I know are the milkshakes 😆
You, sir, have never steered me wrong! This is delicious!
Its funny that the restaurant was in El Dorado CA but the story dates to before Cadillac beginning production of the Eldorado later in the decade
Looks like an effective way to bring all the boys to the yard...
Found your channel this week. Have already tried a few cocktails. Thank you for the entertainment and inspiration! This was yummy! And I never liked previous drinks with Galliano. Excellent nightcap. Cheers!
Freya is beautiful. Those eyes! Great video, can't wait to try it. Thanks
I wish Viski shipped to the U.K. that nick and Nora is absolutely beautiful
Yeah, I'm just about to start planning my holiday shopping... so any day now... very soon... I'll just make a couple more drinks first...
ANDERS!!!
I just made a drink that tastes exactly like the milk leftover from no name brand fruit loops. But with booze. In the best possible way. I think maybe adjustments to to ratios could perfect it, or maybe add Irish cream as well, depending on ding on which way you wanna go, but get this.
I call it Froot Loops Milk. This is no joke.
1/2 to 3/4oz of the following:
Frangelico
Benedictine
Rum Chata
1.5oz Plymouth gin
Stirred in a rocks glass with a large cube for 30 seconds
Please do an all-milkshake episode.
A Classic drink”shot” in Sweden with Galliano we call hotshot
Its Galliano, coffe and creme.
Its a layered drink
I’d bet that the ice cream version originated at At Random. About half of their menu consists of boozy ice cream drinks, and along with their “milkshake” versions of the Pink Squirrel and Grasshopper, the Golden Cadillac is still served there to this day. (I live just down the street from the place.)
Tom, I don't know for sure, but Bryant's *might* have created this. My guess is because Bryant's was the creator of the Pink Squirrel, another ice cream drink. Maybe another Milwaukeean will pipe up and confirm or deny.
@@SpotofTeaGirl Yes, I considered that possibility, but I tend to associate ice cream drinks with At Random more than Bryant’s. Your comment prompted me to see if I could find any definitive information, and I found a rudimentary menu on Bryant’s website where they still list the Pink Squirrel. So, contrary to what I thought, Bryant’s does still make ice cream drinks.
I also found another article on the Hotel Seymour Supper Club’s website which explained that the ice cream drink craze started in Wisconsin with the invention of a hand-cranked stand mixer by James Tufts in Racine, which eventually went on to be developed into the Hamilton-Beach electric stand mixer.
please more videos with Freya😍
Love seeing Freya!
Hi Freya 🐶, plz let Anders now I thank him for this - finally I got an alternative (even two) to the Harvey Wallbanger, which was so far the only reson a bottle of Galliano is sitting on my backbar... will definetely try this!
A milkshake episode would be awesome! Especially with common or everyday booze. Thanks!
To the bar!! 🎉
Nutmeg cocktail is a personal must try! Whipping canister! Clear ice maker! Oh my 😸. I had no idea the last two existed. The first one I did from you! Very cool, all these liqueurs I am learning about are very bougie and I’m here for it.
Hi just watched videos about first spirits to purchase for a home bar - and now you post this one 2 minutes ago! Im sure it will be great ty :)
(extremely calm voice) first
To the bar!
TO THE BAR!➡️🥃
Just paused the video to make one. Very festive!
Oh my God I respect this man 🐴
hey have you ever considered doing a "my favorites" drink series? i find so many cocktail youtubers cover so many drinks and will try them and say "i would alter xyz but its an alright drink". i think itd be so informative to see a "here are my favorite drinks" video. maybe even sorting by category.
do you think commiting to favorites for some people might be a fear? because they dont want to be judged for their taste?
Never eat the golden snow! lol Love your videos
Growing up, every Parent's bar had a bottle of Galliano, and now I know why.
More vids with your dog ❤
You really need to do an episode on Wisconsin Brandy Alexander and Grasshopper
Covered the Wisconsin Grasshopper (along with the Pink Squirrel), but Wisconsin Brandy Alexander still needs to happen
if only I could get Galliano L’Autentico in Ontario Canada, all we have is the vanilla flavored version 😡
Silly-sized/shaped bottles that waste bar storage space are such a pet peeve. I’m looking at you, Eagle Rare, Patron, Luxardo.
In kitchen it is called robot coup because of the first brand that make em and the name sticked 😅
I used to love the South African Dom Pedro 😍
NOT JUST WISCONSIN!!! 🤣❤️🎄🤣❤️
Yes, this old fart from a SW non-suburb of Chicago (because my town was founded first) was allowed the Golden Cadillac Milkshake on Christmas (unless Dad made Harvey Wallbanger milkshakes)!
YUMMMMMMM!!!!!
ETA: Gaah-li-ah-no … the “a” in Italian is soft (ah), not like “gal”, and is pronounced the same, no matter where it falls in the word.
I live next to Poor Reds and have drank many Cadillacs
Another classic video! Always a good day to see a new Anders video up.
Quick question though, after spirits are opened, they have a shortened shelf life, right? Do you cycle through bottles quick enough, or do you not really notice any degrading of quality in older bottles in your bar?
Yeah - definitely do a milkshake episode.
"In Wisconsin we turn everything into milkshakes" Now that's my kind of place
I'm a cocktail bartender in a top 500 bar in Paris, thats my favorite cocktail ever, but most bartenders dont know it here, cream and sweetness are not super trendy at the moment, but who cares right ?
Bartender in Paris? Awesome! Can you give me a tip how to mix Picon & beer? I was recently in France and I had it in a bar and loved it! I got a bottle of Picon but no idea about the ratios with beer and the type of beer... 🤔 Help would be appreciated! 😂
Hmmmm a Milk shake! Might have to see if they have this at the liquor store!
Brilliant uptempo jazz music in the background! Please pay attention to the sharpness of your camera lens. It could be way better!
Not a big fan of Galliano but the milkshake version looks pretty darn good to me. That one looks good! 🎄 Cheers Anders & Az
A milkshake cocktail episode would be PERFECT for the dog days of summer (sorry, Freya).
Being from Wisconsin, and also shaped like I've everything I eat is wisconsin-style, I must admit that milkshakes are really excellent.
Would you think there will be any improvement on flavor with malt powder added to it?
That's a fun idea - guessing it'd work pretty well with the Galliano. Cheers
Looks great and the Galiano sounds super interesting... But what else can you do with it? Maybe you should do a Galiano video some day.
At Haase's Supper club in, er, Borth, of all places, they have (or had, haven't been in years), an epic Golden Cadillac. 'Scansin style, of course.
My first and so far only bottle of Galliano was a full 750 ml. It lasted 10 years and I was never able to store it in my liquor cabinet.
I know the Galliano had to be bought for this video. Then it can be retired until an enemy requests a Harvey Wallbanger.
Man, he makes every drink look delicious! I want to try every single one! (Except for the goddammit.)
I expected it to be a car video for once Anders
The routine these days. Friday: Watch new video drop. Saturday: to the local liquor store! Saturday night: mixin’ time!!!! This week it’s my first try with Galliano! Cheers all!!
Always great videos with excellent drink recipes, thank you!
My wife and I have questions 😃
You said “In Wisconsin we make everything into a milkshake.” Are you from Wisconsin? We grew up in SE Wisconsin.
Also, my wife is curious about Oz’ name, she likes it.
Lastly, not a question, but we appreciate you including your sweet dog in your videos.
Cheers!
So, Wisconsin's approach to cocktails is kinda "nice drink but what if it was candy?" I mean they even did that to an Old Fashioned.
