Greetings! I'm a 7th Grade Science teacher in Massachusetts (USA). Last year while teaching 100% remotely due to coronavirus. I started giving my students a tour of modern African music, one country each day. I play the music in the background for the first few minutes while they do an opening task to get them ready for the lesson. I've continued this year now that we are back in class. I chose a different song from Togo last year, but decided to play this song this year. Most of my choices have been in the Afropop/Afrobeat genres, as the majority of my students are Black or Hispanic, and I thought they would find those genres appealing. However, I then I decided it's important to expose my students to many types of music and not to make assumptions about what they will like. After each song I have the students give a thumb vote and this got a lot more thumbs up than I had expected. In particular, they loved the African drum rhythms, and the story that the video tells. Several kids were banging their heads too. Thanks for making it!
Ooh! Thank you very much for your comment! It's really touching to hear that!! We send positive energy to all your students and hope we'll perform in your area one day so that you can enjoy it live, in real time! Thanks again and 😊🔥Stay safe!
