    I love how each season brought back one character from ATLA as they are now. Katara for season 1, Iroh in the spirit world in season 2, Zuko in season 3, and now Toph for season 4.

    I LOVE the “you’re just in my mind, you’re not real” and then it physically hurts her. Such an incredible and real representation of this kind of pain and mental health issues. Especially playing off the common “it’s just in my mind” but seeing the real physical impact. Ah I love this show

    After rewatching Korra Alone after going through a health/disability recovery of my own these past two years I realize what an amazing job this episode does in portraying the psychological parts of recovery. The frustration about not recovering as quickly as you want and the isolation of seeing your friends living full lives and celebrating accomplishments while you are unable to do even some of the most basic tasks. I can't speak personally to the PTSD side of Korra's story but I applaud this show for taking on such a serious subject and doing it justice.

      @METerrell 3 місяці тому +17

      Yeah, it received a lot of praise for how they handled both the physical & mental aspects of trauma and recovering from them. Making the time jump between seasons was necessary for that, to show that it wasn't going to be a "couple of weeks" like Korra said, but a long & ongoing process.
      Of course it also helped in a minor way with aging Kai up since his voice actor his puberty.

    There are people who call Korra the worst Avatar and say that she’s “weak”. If this season, out of all of them, doesn’t prove how strong Korra is, not just physically or bending-wise, but mentally and spiritually, I don’t know what does. Korra went through such a unique journey and I really love her so much.

    • @trilogy3x
      @trilogy3x 3 місяці тому +3

      Main reason they say that is because she lost her fights Amon zahere her uncle she lost rava and her connection to past avatars. Difference between korra and last airbender is and won lots of smaller battles like zuko zhao the northern water tribe even in korra aang has some wins. It mainly boils down to the creators believing they had 1 season and that was it.

    • @lilscenechick1995
      @lilscenechick1995 3 місяці тому +7

      @@trilogy3x To be fair, it’s really hard to beat a blood bender. Aang needed the Avatar State to beat Yakone. Korra struggled with the Avatar State to begin with, and removing her ability to rely on it was a smart move, imo. I definitely wish the creators were approved for 4 seasons right off the bat, so they could write a more cohesive overarching story. I also wish Zuko was more involved, we didn’t get enough of him or his grandson General Iroh. But I still appreciate the story we got.

    Prince Wu is one of my favorite new characters. it's easy to discern that he's had a very sheltered upbringing, has no idea what he's doing, because he was never intended to rule the kingdom. they show clearly that he's being used and manipulated by everyone around him except mako, who treats him like a normal human being. he's obnoxious at first, but he grows on you.

    I think the fact that Korra left Naga behind when she went to travel to Republic City (and then turned away to wander alone) also shows a lot about her mental state. The Avatar's animal guide or companion is a lifelong companion - they journey together to keep peace throughout the world. They are kind of like two parts of a whole, providing balance and comfort to each other. For Korra to feel so mentally disconnected from her own self to then choose to be apart from Naga for so long is really an example of how broken she feels.

    My theory on Spirit/Trauma Korra: Raava said it herself, 'darkness will grow inside me until he (Vaatu) emerges once more'. Spirit Korra being able to physically attack Korra, and being seen by the spirit she met, always made me think that it was Vaatu using her trauma to manifest and torment her because that's all he can manage while he is disembodied within Raava, within Korra while he grows.

    I love Zaheer for season 3
    But I love the personal struggle that Korra deals with on a very realistic level in season 4
    3 years later and she still has PTSD. It's not just solved offscreen or in one episode. It affects her. She's looking for a scapegoat with the bit of metal still in her, thinking that that's the solution to all her problems. When all it really is is her actual self holding herself back due to the trauma she experienced. Absolutely brilliant writing. You're gonna adore this season

    Korra was severely mentally and physically broken at the end of Volume 3. She was poisoned, her legs were paralysed and she was almost suffocated - all while thinking her father had just been killed and the fate of the planet rested on her shoulders (again). Every Volume so far destroyed her mind piece by piece - first she was blocked from bending, contemplating su*c*de because she knew the world needs an Avatar who can bend all the elements, and then her Avatar spirit was ripped out of her, making her temporarily the last Avatar before the cycle ends. In Korra's eyes, she didn't win the battle against Zaheer, since without Jinora's intervention she would have died (and the Avatar along with her). She does so much good in each Volume, but by this point she seems to only be able to focus on the bad, and it breaks my heart.

    Korra has been through literal hell and back. Has constantly had to live with people who want to kill her, over protective family, a cheating boyfriend, being burdened with being the first avatar in a new cycle, being poisoned with mercury, and becoming crippled while watching the airbenders have to do her job for her while some reminder her of only her failures.
    Then the writers actively taking a deep dive in to how all that has taken its toll on her. Was a daring move, and one not too many shows would dare touch on. Now you see her as a human. A person with real issues. That the avatar isn't all about glory and victories.
    Still can't believe that there's people who hate Korra for those very reasons. Amazing show, and an amazing season. Strap on and hold on. You're on for a ride
