- Premier Padmini is a four-seat saloon that was manufactured in India from 1974 to 2000 by Premier Automobiles Limited, a division of the Walchand Group, under license from Fiat and marketed initially as the Fiat 1100 Delight - and beginning in 1974 as the Premier Padmini. The Padmini's primary competitor in the Indian market was the Hindustan Ambassador and Standard Herald. This famous car[2] ruled the Indian car market and its popularity peaked during 1970s and 80s. Many leading icons of the time including [3] legendary Rajnikanth, Mammootty, Aamir Khan and many others had owned a Premier Padmini during its prime years. Known colloquially as the Pad,[4] or Fiat (since the Padmini was originally a Fiat car), the Padmini is named after a 14th-century Rajput princess.[4] Padmini translates to "she who sits on the lotus" and refers to the Goddess Lakshmi. It was also a common name for girls in India at the time.
The Fiat 1100D, based on the Fiat 1200 GranLuce Berlina, debuted in India in 1964 with a carburetted 1,089 cc four-cylinder petrol engine - rather than the 1,221 cc engine fitted to the GranLuce in Italy. With a 10.8:1 compression ratio, it created 47 bhp (35 kW) at 4,800 rpm with a maximum torque of 7.20 kg⋅m (71 N⋅m; 52 lb⋅ft) at 3,000 rpm. The original transmission was a four-speed manual gearbox (without synchronized first gear), which drove the rear wheels via a live rear axle. It had a column-mounted shifter, on the left-hand side of the steering column. Weighing 895 kg (1,973 lb) with that engine the car could attain a top speed of 130 km/h (81 mph).
Premier manufactured the Padmini at their Kurla plant in Bombay (now Mumbai) until they sold a majority stake to Fiat SpA in September 1997. The licensed vehicle was initially manufactured as the Fiat 1100 Delight. For model year 1973, the car was marketed as the Premier President and subsequently as the Premier Padmini. The car, in its peak during the 1970s-1980s, achieved immense popularity among youngsters, celebrities and women as compared to the Hindustan Ambassador, it looked more modern in appearance, more fuel-efficient and was very easy to drive.

अपने दादाजी के साथ इस कार से चलने का एक अलग ही मजा था।उनके पास ये कार नीली रंग की थी।फिएट और एम्बेसडर से घुमना एक अलग एहसास देता था।अब ये कार शहर में बहुत मुश्किल से नजर आता है।इतिहास से जुड़ी बातें हमेशा अनमोल होती हैं..।

My parents purchased the Premier padmini in 1972 for Rs 27000/-. The licence plate number was GTM 3216. They sold it in 1994 for a profit ! I have very fond memories of this beautiful car ❤️.

In 1972, it would have been a Premier President as the Padmini was not launched until 1973/74. We had a President ('73 model) purchased in '78 for 26000/- and kept for 20+ years.
Fiat premiere Padmini was my 1st car...what a nice car it is !
Premier Padmini Deluxe BE was our family car for 4 years in the late 80s and early 90s and it was a phenomenal vehicle. For a 1100 cc engine it's acceleration was unbelievable and it would still give a decent mileage for petrol. Gear shift was much smoother than the Ambassador (that was also a great car) and the shock absorbers were too good! Thanks for the video!

Sir, Thank you very much for making this video. The company, Premier Automobiles Limited and its flagship product, the Padmini car have a special place in my heart, as my father worked at PAL for 33 years and I was able to visit his factory in Kurla, Mumbai on many occasions. My father is no more but he would have admired this video as well, as it has been close to thirty years since he had retired from there and obviously he had a very special attachment to the company and the car and he was familiar with the intimate details of both. Thank you once again, for keeping the memory of PAL and Padmini alive.

After Fiat , came Premier President which my Dad had, bought in 1973, from Shimla @23000, and remained with us for 30 years. Padmini came after this.
It was my dream to purchase padmini at the age of 22 but when I was capable to purchase at the age of 52, car was not in market. I purchased estime. That also was a great car.
I also have Premier Padmini now in running condition. It is 1985 model petrol run. I feel proud to be an owner of it. People admire it when I take it on the road. It is in good running condition.

Premier Padmini was our first car bough in 1996... so many memories attached to this car. Though we sold it, but that i regret a lot and started searching our car to rebuy it. But couldn't find the buyer
I learned driving four wheeler on Fiat Padmini only feel proud today, this was one of the best car in those days, though the car was not having many advanced things but still it was a very simple car with huge amount of space & very comfortable seats.

I have Fiat car 1988 model in good condition even i drive only fiat I have other cars also but I use only fiat even I was in uttarakhand during 2017 to 2019 I used every where In uttrakhand also & never faces any problem even when ever service required I always returned to Barabanki (UP) again after maintenance again return to my job still I am using Fiat 1100 Petrol version without any problem.

I am fond of FIAT cars. My first dream car was 1967 make FIAT 1100 D - Sedan. I also had FIAT Uno 1997 make till Nov. 2010. I can't forget those Olden Golden days. FIAT 1100 D was quite sturdy with Steel Bumpers. Uno was light enough & good for average.
