Great video! I've beaten all three Saturn PD games, but Orta still sits in my backlog. This is probably the most in-depth look at Orta that I've seen on UA-cam yet and your glowing response to it makes me look forward to playing it.
Thomas Pleacher really appreciate that man! Hearing feedback like that really makes producing these videos so much worth it. Hope you get around to it sooner, rather than later. Since the announcement of XBone B/C, the physical realease's price has started to rise quite quickly. It's an absolutely awesome game!
great review. One of my favorite series of all in gaming. I come back to Panzer Dragoon all the time for some good old classic gaming. I still have my Sega Saturn, but nowadays I mostly play Orta and the Panzer Dragoon remake on my Xbox. I wish all to hell they re-release Zwei and Azel.
This is one of my all time favorites, on release was criminally underappreciated (like many Sega OG Xbox exclusives). What it lacked in campaign length it made up for in extras and a quality of play that begged multiple runs on hard for better scores. $9.99 for an upscaled version on the xbone is a steal even for the mildly curious. Great video.
Dr.L'ling I would love to see a modern day PD game incorporating the combat of Orta and the world exploration of Saga. Now that would be an amazing game!
The Southern Sega Gentleman I never played it myself but I was sad that Crimson Dragon was such a failure, hopefully the PDO rerelease buzz will shake things up enough for more Panzer Dragoon.
Panzer Dragoon Worldパンツァードラグーンワールド yeah I totally get the argument people make that it's more like fan fiction in the way they tie it to azel but I still like it. It's cool to see more of the world realized in such fidelity
They patched the pal 360 backwards compatible version at the same time the game was re released on xbox one. It used to crash every time after completing the 3rd level on the cut scene. I persevered until I had racked up enough hours on the first 2 levels to unlock the level select to get round the crash. The original game in pandoras box was a fantastic addition too! What a grind to get when only the first 3 levels were playable but it was worth it! Amazing game!
I got my hands on this game back in 2006... I was mesmerized how clean , vibrant and detailed it looked ... Compared to ps2 games. I could never decides which one was best saga or orta.
Great look back at Orta. Shame you didn't get to experience Saga back in the day as I feel your opinion might be different, but regardless, Orta is still a great entry in the series. At times I found the switching of dragon types annoying, but that was a mild gripe over what is still a great entry in the series.
Orta in the pal regions was patched on the xbox 360 so the game doesn't freeze after stage 3. A great game and still significantly better than the Switch remake.
Great video. Saga is my personal favourite in the series, but Orta is a pretty close 2nd (I really do love them all). It had been a while since I’d played it, so I was very pleased to see how great Orta looked on the Xbox One X. Cheers.
I plan on covering the world and history of the series in the future, and I think that's where Saga will really shine. And unfortunately, the footage I used was 360 not XboxOne, that said it'll look even better on the One.
The Southern Sega Gentleman I look forward that one for sure. I was meaning I was pleased when I played my own copy of the game on Xbox One. I should have said it bit more clearly, not that it really matters too much. It is one those games on the list of “Xbox One X enhanced” titles, which has been my biggest reason for owning that system. Orta in particular looks amazing on it.
Hi SSG, do you think that the SEGA Dreamcast could handle games ported for xbox, like Panzer Dragoon Orta and much more: jsr future, sega gt 2002,Virtua Striker 3 in Nintendo GC, Sonic Heroes... Another great video thanks!!!
Most of those games were developed from the ground up with other consoles in mind unfortunately, examples being Orta and JSRF. As much as I love the DC, it would be hard pressed to create the same level of graphical fidelity or raw processing power as say the Xbox. There's also the issue that the DC used GD-Roms, while every other 6th gen console used some form of DVD. So even if a game could be ported, it would more than likely be a multi disc release, especially since modern DC releases are printed on CD's. In sum, I'm sure they could be ported. Would it be a flawless port, I highly doubt it.
@@TheSouthernSegaGentleman Thats hurts...then, the DC was too weak like everybody says.I always used to thought that the DC was more capable, but never that weak. And the true is that make sense, the games never change from the first gen to next, one example of that was the series NFL 2k and basically all your series(NBA,NHL) always looks the same, and some times worst; and the reason, like you said; the DC can't push much more. Thanks SSG.
If you look at the beta Gun Valkyrie on the DC you can get a good idea of what PDO might have looked like. Smilebit had some very talented programmers.
Just posting in in late 2019. Wow this is the coolest account of the game I've ever seen. Gets me so hyped up for the day I get an X1 (or more likely, xCloud) and can finally play it, rectifying the mistake I made not getting an Xbox when I was much younger.
I bought my Xbox with a huge amount of anger. I was still seething at the cancellation of the Dreamcast, and over here in the UK, we were still getting games when Xbox released. However, purchase I did, thanks to the promise of Sega games continuing on the Xbox. I even tried to convince myself the rumoured deal between Sega and Microsoft to let it run Dreamcast games might come to fruition eventually. Alas, it did not. But My XBox came with Halo (of course), Dead or Alive, and (drum roll...) Sega GT, Jet Set Radio Future and Panzer Dragoon Orta. Playing them still came with pangs of regret at what had happened to my beloved Sega. However, with the exception of Halo (which I had completed on a friend's xbox in co-op and was a large factor in my decision to purchase one myself), these were the first games I sat down and played through. Orta was, in fact, the first game I completed on my own Xbox. I still have it (and all of my games tbf) to this day. It certainly was an upgrade over the Saturn games. Unlike those two (I've still not played Saga), I still have vivid memories of scenes from the game. I must admit, I only replayed it through a couple of times though. I've always wondered how a new Panzer Dragoon game might look these days. Beautiful obviously, but would they take the RPG route again to justify it's creation?
If the series was to return with a new entry, I would honestly hope it attempts another RPG. But I want the combat to be real time and in keeping with the abilities present in the on-rail games. That would be the best mix for the modern gaming scene.
if they did real time combat, they'd probably have to completely overhaul any established control systems for panzer dragoon, and it might end up more similar to virtual-on or sin and punishment if they wanted to keep the gun on the rider while not making it obnoxious to control and still allowing a degree of control of the dragon.
Great review man! Orta is my personal fav Panzer Dragoon. Wish they'd do an HD re-release. Still looking forward to the proposed Zweii and Saga/Azel remakes. Been a while though since any news...
Excellent video. I loved how Orta borrowed concepts from Saga yet app, died them to the original rail shooter genre. I play it on my quiet OG Xbox, because my 360 is too LOUD!
I have a mint copy of this on the OG xbox, its rare enough and quite expensive these days. There is actually nicer box art for this game in the other regions believe it or not. I am a huge fan othe og xbox, some would even go as far as consider it the unofficial Dreamcast 2 as Sega remained loyal to Microsoft after the Dreamcast lifepan had ended. Great video SSG!
Orta is absolutely awesome man! I really wish this franchise would get another release, but at this point I think it's a bit too late. I personally feel the xbox was the continuation of the Dreamcast. Not only the controller, but also the vibe the games gave off. Microsoft had something new, different, and good with that console. They've gone to shit with the Xbox One imo however.
My first touch with panzer dragoon was zwei (looking forward to the remake). Never got an xbox classic so i played orta first on xbox 360 as it was compatible. Today i got pdr an pdo on xbox one x. Both looks great.
Didn't find any info on the patch when I was researching, guess I need to look a little deeper on that. But yes, I would love to see a remaster of the series, or better yet, complete remakes.
This was a fantastic look at the game, man. Awesome content.
Really appreciate it brother, glad you enjoyed it!
A truly goated 10/10 videogame. Modern gaming looks at Orta and turns away in shame

Orta is an incredible game. They really did everything they could have with the rail shooter premise. There's some great ties made to Saga as well
Ties to Saga could be argued but that's not the point here. Orta is a great game indeed. Especially technically.
I feel that Orta does a fine job of wrapping up the franchise, and leaves room for a "new" rider down the line.
Panzer Dragoon Worldパンツァードラグーンワールド yeah I totally get the argument people make that it's more like fan fiction in the way they tie it to azel but I still like it. It's cool to see more of the world realized in such fidelity
I wonder if this could have been done on the Dreamcast, or what it would looked like on the Dreamcast?
It was originally supposed to be on the Dreamcast, so yes it could have been done on Dreamcast for sure.
Awesome video one of my favorite games
Apreciate that man! SEGA needs to get a sequel in the works like quick!
Excellent video mate! Really like your reviewing style.
Been enjoying your Sega vids man. Keep on keepin on.

I have this game with me since it came out....what a great game man...
We need a sequel Sega....
God yes they do!
definitely my persona favorite in the series. it does a great job modernizing this style of gameplay
Very informative and fair. Hope this one gets more available, it's the one id wanna play most

Orta would've been better if the sweeping camera didn't take control of aiming so much
I want a new Panzer Dragoon game and for it to be another masterpiece!!!!
*CRIES IN PANZERESE*
awesome video mate, there is a 480p patch for those of use with modded og xboxes. But lets face it, PD games are crying out for 4K...or even VR
Didn't find any info on the patch when I was researching, guess I need to look a little deeper on that. But yes, I would love to see a remaster of the series, or better yet, complete remakes.
I consider Panzer Dragoon a modernized Space Harrier.
Bro I feel like your hiding your machete and gonna kill us lol
