I had this NES bartop Idea after seeing the release of the Nintendo Classic, especially when they’re so hard to find in stores and prices are so high in the aftermarket.
Sideart was printed by Joe Szabo from Szabo’s Arcades. Once again, he came through with fantastic work and quick shipping.

For all the people complaining about sound - I'm not an expert in making videos. This is one of the first videos I have ever made and wouldn't have known at the time how to balance audio. I will be sure to learn how and work better on keeping the noise level better moderated in future videos.
Don't worry. People like to complain on UA-cam. You're very talented and your video is good.
Thanks, I just keep seeing the same criticism so I wanted to address it.
Dude, your video is awesome, what sound?
I was reading this comment wearing headphones and was turning it up, then the saw started and i realized what the complaints were for lol.
Eh, it's how you learn. i can't make videos for shit either, but you might consider putting a warning about the jarring volume transitions in so headphone users don't blow their ears out. That is one badass project, and i'm glad to have watched it.
I don't care about sound. Your skills are solid. Did you ever think of a way to bolt down the joysticks?
Your kids will never ever forget this. Play with them on it a lot. They'll never stop treasuring those moments.
Not to be mean but you misspelled forget
@@MaI0id corrected, good looking out. Thank you.
That is the best looking retro cabinet I have seen to date, and using the NES joystick controllers was genius. You can't hear it but I'm applauding you my friend.
Thanks I appreciate it
@@DirkMade hey chap very good work. What’s the rubber tubing you are putting on exposed edges of the cabinet. Really finishes it off.
@@thebandit1324 T-molding
Thanks for that! Very nice work. I am toying with the idea of making on but currently looking at whether to use original controllers but then you are limited to using only one emulator. Too many options lol.
Hey "@Faux Shizle" - thanks for watching and the reply! Please be sure to LIKE and SUBSCRIBE! Appreciate all the kind words!
I've been dreaming of building an arcade cabinet for over a decade and you breezed right through it. well done, really pro
Phil Pinsky Productions I waited a long time before I started my first one, which i built with very limited tools on my deck in a small townhouse. You can do it. Just get started.
DirkMade How much did it end up costing? And how long did the whole project take?
SPENCER HEISLER I re-used a lot of stuff and had the screen already so cost is hard to really compute. Outside of drying time, maybe 10 to 12 hours all combined? There's lots of things to do though if you are making artwork, computer setup, planning controls, etc.
DirkMade True.
Phil Pinsky Productions it'd easer than it seems! get some big bords of card from the supermarket "for free" and work out a good design...copy that on to 1cm ply cut it out by hand saw, then a rasburry pi zero 3 and some zero delay joy stick board 2 cheap sticks and 6 to12 buttons 1 start p1 p2 you can pick up a cheap screen from a boot sale... I did my one for under £50!
You got a damn entire Home Depot in your garage. I can tell wood shop was your favorite class.👍🏼
I know it took me 3 years to find this video, but I love it. I’ve made three cabinets and each one has little imperfections. Watching every step of someone doing everything 100% proper taught me a lot. Thank you! Always great to see the kids enjoying it lol
Forget the sound, you built a freaken decent size arcade from scratch WoW!! You my friend have a blessed talent! Enjoy
Years later and I still keep coming back to watch this build. I still have dreams of building my own one day. I have been hoarding laptops and parts over the years. I want mine to house a 32 inch tv though and the control panel to have arcade sticks with 2 buttons for each player. Your build is the only build that comes close to what I'm looking for when it comes to a bartop build. I want a bartop for ever console ever made and will end up building them, I just need to keep pushing myself forward 😆.
Thanks for the great comment - my suggestion to you is to go out there and get started!
This was just ridiculous. I mean that in a GOOD way. The craftsmanship and time that went into this was awesome. Nice work.
NES 83’ thanks that’s much appreciated
Best part of the video and the whole project was when those cute kids of yours played and were giggling with excitement. Well done sir!
There was a time when I was thinking of making one of these. This one turned out great!
why not anymore? also i binge ur vids
Why are you here
Very cool build! Looks like something Nintendo made!
That's a great complement, thanks!
I thought this was an arcade cabinet Nintendo released in the past
It's awesome to see children of that age genuinely enjoying playing retro 8-bit games. The arcade looks incredible, wish I had the means or ability to create one myself.
This turned out really nice! Well done!
Thank you!
Awesome job man! It looks like something you could get from an arcade retailer. After all that, priceless when your kids are enjoying it.
Great video! Your boys looked really happy with the end result too. Good job man 👍
johnboydojo thank you!
Amazing! I like how you reused the old joysticks. Well done!
World's loudest saw but all worlds quietest router, Great build great finish.
How do 91 people not like this? This is incredible skill to build and the creativity not to mention an awesome topic of interest. I give this 1000 likes. The saw noise was not an issue. A carpenter who also did a great job shooting and editing a video for others enjoyment gets a dislike? Don't get it but great job and I would love to own a unit like this. Collecters are going wild and drooling over this.
Thanks Paul! Very nice of you
I just found this video and I like how everything went along and worked out great in the end. I also like how everything is customized. You didn't take any shortcuts in this project and it ended with an awesome unit. My biggest horror with every project are the labels. No matter how careful and planned you are, air bubbles and wrinkles work hard to get you. At first, I thought the controllers would have looked better if they were customized as well and you could have given them the NES look with a printed controller panel. But then I realized that the authentic controllers gave it that nice nostalgic look. Great work and video.
I don't see how anyone could dislike this. I mean really? If you're even remotely interested in video games and the arcade era. This is badass. You're talented man. Don't listen to the negative comments. People that hate, hate themselves and find other people to push they're negative feelings on. I bet most of the negative comments couldn't turn a light switch on
Four years after you filmed this and I think you did an amazing job. I am inspired to eventually try my hand at building my own cabinet. Your kids will never forget the fun they had playing these great games with their dad! Thank you for sharing.
Thanks a lot! Really appreciate the kind words.
This is amazing i would make it if i could. And i loved watching those brothers (i'm assuming they are siblings) having fun and laughing together, it warmed my heart.
Great job with the build and printouts added a sweet touch. Nice to see children developing an appreciation for retro gaming.
Dude, the sound that people are complaining about is actually the flapping of heavenly angels delivering unto man the coolest NES creation ever! Serious props man! You should totally make and sell the cabinet parts as a template for DIYers with no real woodworking skills. In other words, let me know if you ever decide to sell templates.
You know you did an amazing job when your kids love an 8bit system!!! The advantage sticks made it pop for sure. I want one!!!
This is so entertaining in fast forward. I have no idea why but it's awesome
I used to play the off road game with my brother and I at 10:25. So awesome you have that game!
The amount of talent it takes to do this is amazing. Awesome work.
WOW! Much Respect for this Video! This is one of the best videos on Retro Gaming Moding I have seen in a long time since the Famous "Nintoaster" Video with Richard Deluze aka Stupid Fingers. Your video is fantastic, well detailed and shows your a man of great talent: Construction, Electronic Engineering, and Straight Up A+ Handyman. Your speed up editing was great and I loved every minute of your video. Very entertaining and educational as well. The Bonus part of your video was the end. A great hardworking Dad making a video of something fun with hard work and handing if off to the kids to enjoy. You must be proud. Hell I'm proud just watching your kids enjoy the creation of fun that you made with your bare hands. You Da Man Brother Bear and keep em coming. A+++++ Much Respect. Love it!
hektorlinko thank you!
I love the time lapse effect. Nice work!
A thing of beauty is a joy forever
Quite possibly the best arcade cabinet ever! Absolutely gorgeous
!! That arcade booth is amazingly cool.
Love that monitor mounting method...it's exactly how I did my first (and still mine) arcade cabinet. I now liquid nails/silicone them into the bezel but that's just for quickness
This brings so much new life to an old NES!
no dubt...this is the most beautyful thing i'v ever seen.
Am I the only one who loves the fact that it seems like you can pull out the joysticks. It allows for more room if the two players wish to have it.
Exactly why they aren't glued or otherwise fixed in place like people have suggested I should have done.
MexieDoesGaming .. Initially I thought he should have covered there original joystick to make it look more like a arcade but since you brought the fact that you could pull them out I realize that's the ticket right there
i bought a bartop galaga a few weeks back and its loads of fun, ive always wanted to make one myself tho. that nes machine you made looks awesome
Excellent craftsmanship. This video was so amazing to watch and learn how it's done. I didn't realize how much goes into building a bartop cab. Yours looks amazing.
I am soooooo envious of your tool sets now. Holy crap I could do so much with those.
These kids are lucky to have an awesome dad.
As amazing as this build is, my favorite part is the audio. Glad theres not generic music playing. Tool sounds are cool. Great Job!
I can't even begin to tell you how jealous I am. You, sir, are a champion and a hero among gamers. If only I had your skills... I would make a cabinet for every console.
Man I wish I had all the power and hand tools you have. Great job dude.
Awesome cabinet! I picked up a couple of good tips just by watching this vid. Thanks for the video loved seeing the kids enjoy your work at the end! It brought a smile to my face.
Wow! Absolutely awesome. Wish I had the means, skill, & a place to work. I've been wanting one forever.
That is truly great idea, as your comment says, you're not great doing videos. Well, that's wrong, i love this video. It's great doing DIY arcade cabinets, but THIS, is just amazing.
One of the Coolest bartops I've ever seen.. Awesome Job!!
Love the cabinet! You are skillful at both workwooding and electronics, great job
If for any reason there was an Apocalypse, you'd be on my team. Your a wood worker and a game builder, that's double points! Great skill man.
0:43 You invented IRL dubstep man :)
Nice vid, I am amazed by the amount of work and the gorgeous result. GG!
You've got one hell of a lot of knowledge in various aspects ... not to mention finding the time to do all this with two young boys and likely a full time job. I'm very impressed and admire you sir.
Thanks - this took a long time because it was an hour here, hour there type of thing. Whenever time was available. Have to make some time for hobbies!
markseifjr yes to mention love yes thanks you
Unbelievable job! I was surprised you didn't also velcro in the controllers. They slide around just a LITTLE bit.
This is possibly one of the coolest things I've ever seen
Great vid, I couldn't stop watching - I was totally transfixed!
Really great cabinet at the end of it too. Awesome work! :)
Really amazing. Wish I had a arcade, or the woodshop materials to make it happen. So jel.
Exhausted just watching this is like 8x real time lol. Well done.
WOW! This is beyond awesome! Starman was the best character
I'd like to build my own bartop using my NES mini even if I'm totally inexperienced in DIY but watching your video I got a lot of "courage" to start it off
When I clicked on this video, I knew you would use the NES advantage controllers as sticks lol. I was searching for them
Your Amazing, Old Nintendo system Rock's. That would of taken You forever, & you did it so fast. You Rock.
Ahhhh... :) I like how you adapted the original equipment instead of gutting them to turn them into USB controllers. Good preservation practices.
oh my goodness. i am in awe!! That is the coolest gaming system ever. I would play that every day. Awesome job, sir.
I love this. What a great idea and execution. My only suggestion would be to secure the joypads to the cabinet. Great work!
Great job. That came out awesome. Lucky kids!
Nicely done! I just built a mini Sega Genesis RetroPie Attract Mode system that fits in my hand, (Fiancée loves it... Especially playing old Mario games again) Now my next project is a Bartop Arcade with Hyperspin with a i5 Computer running it... Loved watching your video... Very inspiring!
BLAKER very nice thank you
I love literally everything about what I just watched. Instantaneous sub. I wish I had a workshop like that (and the tools to go with it...................and the knowledge to use them lol)
Atro785 thanks! I've got a couple new projects in the planning stages, hope you like them as well.
I'm surprised Nintendo didn't make these NES bartop arcade machines for the consumers during the 80s-90s. Back then, it would've had a crt monitor instead of an lcd.
your a beast broseph, great video!thats what us adults call doing work.well played sir.
andrew lang thanks! Appreciate it Anbro Lang!
Now you're playing with POWER!
Great!👍🏻
I hope you have made a million more replicas for the rest of us Nintendo Nes fans.
This is absolutely incredible.
Outstanding! I wish I had your knowledge (and tools) to make one of these. Congrats!
This is awesome, I grew up with the nes. l dont have the skills to turn wood into an arcade cabinet. Fantastic job.
That was a beautiful build.
Really awesome homemade cabinet.
I haven't even finished watching this and I love it and want to build one!
Very nice! I made my arcade unit in a briefcase so I could transport it around to a friends house. Maybe you could make this portable too.
I wish I had someone to teach me how to work with wood like this. I am not skilled in that area but I always wanted to be. Great job man!
Get a few simple tools to start and build more along the way, watch some youtube how to's, be very mindful of safety...
I really like that design. It's like a little Nintendo arcade cabinet.
That was really fun to watch. Great work! Thanks for sharing.
Wow the NES arcade looks awesome
You work as fast as Commander Data!
Another creative build. Looks sharp too.
Very nice Arcade bar top mate !
Awesome job sir! Well done all around and great attention to detail. Wish I had the patience for a build like this 😉.
You sir know how to make one hell of a Bartop arcade machine
I'm considering building something like this myself but with the actual nes (and advantage controllers) and one of those 450-in-1 cartridges. Nice build and thanks for sharing!
The Yuengling makes this all better!!
I was impressed by how nice it looks. Nintendo should make these.
You are the fastest builder I’ve ever seen!!! 😵
Holy hell, that's great work.
This is going be one of those one of a kind things.
Amazing work!
2:50 When the liquor store is closer than the hardware store👍
Awesome machine, even better Capitals Swag! Lets go Caps!
Pretty awesome
Nice work man! Really impressive going from concept to finished product in such smooth way. Cute kids as well - reminds me of my own when they play videogames together:)
Thanks! I really appreciate it!
Amazing!
