How generous he is to share his process…his journey really in writing a song. Imagine how rich we would be if we had this detail from masters Bach. Beethoven, Brahms. Tonight, I count myself lucky t have lived in the time of Simon.
I cannot help seeing a Goethean element in his approach to music as a gift ("from who knows where") and the sense of reverence he says he developed for it in time. Anyway, what I was going to say was: Paul, I salute you!
7.30 onwards is a poweful explanation and explains a lot of musical careers. It must have been hard for Simon to say this.He is a very generous man and artist.
Yeah I understood the theory of where he began and where he going I don't think he knows himself where he's going thank goodness because his music has taken me from where I began to where where I am and where I'm going until that time see you tomorrow Paul thanks for making me feel good.
I understood your comment the third time I saw this.I dont know if she could have illicited Paul Simon talking about exhausting his 'innate musicality' [7.45].That would seem to be a very painful thing for a creative artist to say and very revealing.I would say it is an indicator of how comfortable Paul Simon was with Katherine Lanpher, the interviewer[?].
@UpsidedownCrayons, I know, I know...Thanks for responding. But I'm wondering if we have any video footage or interview in print when/where Paul talks about those exact lyrics?
@christinapossum To me, he's saying the couple are in disagreement, she makes the sign for a little bit, like the sign you give someone when directing them to use a teaspoons amount when cooking, he makes a sign thats its something bigger like a large wave, like they are arguing over how big of a deal something is. Just my perception of that line.
A real learning experience with Paul Simon. Very comfortable with himself. Thank you for sharing.💕

Does anybody know if Paul Simon ever mentions his lyrics, "She makes the sign of a teaspoon. He makes the sign of the wave."....
