This is another fabulous group from the 50's-60's. This was the time of classy romantic heartfelt songs. Sadly they don't make music like this anymore. They had so many great hits such as "Only You", "Smoke Gets In Your Eyes", "Enchanted", "(You've Got) The Magic Touch", "My Prayer", "Twilight Time", "Harbor Lights" etc.
I first heard The Platters at age nine when they were on the radio for the first time in my town in North Dakota. I will be 80 in four months and they are still my favorite group. Their talent will be appreciated for many more decades and beyond.
SOME OF THEIR OTHER HITS; TWILIGHT TIME, MY PRAYER, SMOKE GETS IN YOUR EYES, THEY WERE A GREAT GROUP......THEIR MUSIC IS STILL POPULAR TODAY, GOOD MUSIC NEVER DIES!!!!!!
OMG, The Platters are OG. Amazing harmonies. The world just doesn't make music like this anymore, but I wish it did. These old romantic classics are timeless.
One of my favorite groups and Tony Williams (the lead) is one of my favorite singers! No one has done "My Prayer" yet, which is my favorite song from the Platters!
One of the greatest singing groups of all time. Only You is my fav of all their songs. When you hear it you might recognize it. Only of the greatest songs ever sung by one of the most flawless singing groups ever.
One of my favorites. Every Sunday when I was a kid my Mom would shut the TV off and we'd play her old records. This was one of her 45's. It got played a lot. I think I still have it.
These were all great make-out songs and I can say I made out to all of them with my first love. I turned 16 in 1957 and graduated from high school in 1959 so the timeline was perfect for me. To The Platters, thanks for some beautiful memories.
can always tell how someone is reacting to oldies, watch the body, either swaying back and forth or little bit of boogie in the chair - - the music has reached the inner person
Now you are listening to Rock and Roll royalty. This is a rabbit hole that you want to follow until you've heard every song my friend. I've been listening to them since the 1950s and I still enjoy.
Such a lovely line-up of outstanding voices! Twilight Time is my favorite, but Great Pretender comes a close second. Glad to see you enjoying it too :)
Twilight Time and Smoke Gets In Your Eyes are 2 Platters songs you must listen to. 1950's 60's. Smooth as can be. An A Class group. I recommend the Mills Brothers from the same timeline. Their style is mellow. Cab Driver, Glow Worm, Basin Street Blues (live with the Boston Pops video. This is a surprising and unique treat)). And a quartet with Dean Martin on his tv show singing Paper Doll and Up A Lazy River.((live video) There is so much great music from the 40's-60's We used to see these amazing groups on tv.
That’s the type of music 🎶 I was listening to when I was a kid. That’s what you call music 🎶 ❤. Listen to their other songs, they’re outstanding 👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿🔥🔥
I watched them perform live at Olympia Stadium in Detroit 1956.. I still have all of their singles on original 45 RPM..I was also blessed to see The Beatles perform live again at Olympia Stadium in Detroit 1964. I think you would have been in heaven in my era.
Some of the greatest music in history came out of Detroit! Mototown music had all the kids from all backgrounds listening to them. From the Platters to Little Anthony and the Imperials! The queens of Mototown was the Supremes. You need to check out the Four Tops with their song My Girl!
I grew up listening to the Platters because my Mama liked them. I did, too. My Daddy was a big fan of Jackie Wilson and he's awesome as well. Love your reaction videos.
I had never heard this, but I THINK it's the song Chrissy Hynde named The Pretenders after! Some interview I heard with her back when I'll Stand By You came out, she got the bog standard "so where'd you get the band name," but she launched into this amazing story about meeting this tough old biker in a dive, and at some point, she asked what his favorite song was, and he got up & put The Great Pretender on the jukebox. Then he just sat back down, closed his eyes, and listened, swaying back & forth, and she was just watching him listen & thinking that yeah, that was what she wanted to do. To move people like that. So she named her band The Pretenders, so that she could never lose sight of the point. I always regretted not catching the name of the band, though Thanks for that, man.
we had some great music back in the 1950s, but we rarely got to see them - no videos, maybe an occasional TV appearance on Dick Clark's Bandstand or Ed Sullivan. So this is a new treat. And then along came Elvis. I never could understand people being upset saying that Elvis 'sounded Black.' There were lots of wonderful Black singers back then, even Nat King Cole with his own TV show.
the 50's any group,or artist,or genre, portray class more than any other decade....i also recommend my prayer by the platters,i don't think that has been reviewed on any other reaction channel
Great reaction! This one was before my time, but I must’ve heard it in my childhood, because I can’t recall not knowing and loving this song. I think when you’re looking at clips from this time period (sort of the transition from big band/crooner to rock ‘n roll), the audience considered it respectful to sort of sit quietly and attentively, and just listen and enjoy the performance.
It has two Ts, so it’s platters… With an a like in “hat”…. and it comes from the word plate… But a platter is a large plate that you put all the food on to get dished out onto each persons plate… But in this case, it refers to the record platter that turns to play the disc.
You need to get in the way back machine and listen to all the great tunes of that era. The talent will make you wonder, what the hell happened to music lol
Tony Williams is the lead singer and boy can he sing The others compliment him very well . These are one of the all time great groups . Even today there are no better groups . Thanks John. Try reacting to ONLY YOU .
A as in at. You know - a platter, a large plate for serving food. Platter is also slang for a record. So I suppose you could say The Platters were serving hit records back in the day. One of the best groups from the doo wop and early rock & roll era who scored crossover #1 hits on the pop and r&b charts like The Great Pretender at a time when music was often segregated on the radio, which of course was the main source for hearing new music back then.
I'm so glad you explained the word 'platter' to him! Young people these days are often clueless when it comes to words/terms from the old days of the music industry. (Or almost anything else back then🤔)
I'm in my mid 70s and I have had the privilege of watching and dancing to their music too many times. I'm white and I went anywhere in Myrtle Beach s.c. to see and listen them.
No tricks. No tape loops. No computers. No skimpy costumes. Just pure talent.
Now this is real music !
“Only You” is another great song of theirs
This is another fabulous group from the 50's-60's. This was the time of classy romantic heartfelt songs. Sadly they don't make music like this anymore. I first heard The Platters at age nine when they were on the radio for the first time in my town in North Dakota. I will be 80 in four months and they are still my favorite group. Their talent will be appreciated for many more decades and beyond.
I've still love to hear these guys sing, even after 69 years!!!!!!!!!!!
Music was so real back then. Just beautiful, voices, the look, the sound, Amazing.
Now it is about attention. :/ Bad music has been forced into our ears recently, and it is our fault.
I loved the song
"The magic touch"
One of the all time great singing groups in any genre.
Great sound with a lot of great songs
One of the all time GREAT GROUPS
Simpler (better?) times. Pure talent, no auto tune, no digitizers.
SOME OF THEIR OTHER HITS; TWILIGHT TIME, MY PRAYER, SMOKE GETS IN YOUR EYES, THEY WERE A GREAT GROUP......THEIR MUSIC IS STILL POPULAR TODAY, GOOD MUSIC NEVER DIES!!!!!!
Mototown music provided some of the greatest music in Rock&Roll history. They influenced all lot of today's artists still.
Smoke gets in your eyes is my favorite!
From the era of GREAT music.
Pardon me, ALL of their other songs are beautiful to my ears
OMG, The Platters are OG. Amazing harmonies. The world just doesn't make music like this anymore, but I wish it did. These old romantic classics are timeless.
Such a clear wonderful voice.. one of the best
Yes indeed!! They ruled the airwaves for quite a while. Loved them 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
One of my favorite groups and Tony Williams (the lead) is one of my favorite singers! No one has done "My Prayer" yet, which is my favorite song from the Platters!
One of the greatest singing groups of all time. Only You is my fav of all their songs. When you hear it you might recognize it. Only of the greatest songs ever sung by one of the most flawless singing groups ever.
Tony Williams in his prime was so unbelievable a voice. Great, great voice.
This was one of my favorite groups of that era. They had so many great hits. TWILIGHT TIME Is one of my favorite songs.

Oh the great adversaries they faced back in the 50’s and 60’s. Bless their hearts for their courage. Great music.

This is simply a "CLASSIC" and a "MASTERPIECE" by The Platters!!!!
Such a lovely line-up of outstanding voices! Twilight Time is my favorite, but Great Pretender comes a close second. Glad to see you enjoying it too :)
One of the greatest classics of all time. Glad you did this one!

Great song! I haven't heard the entire version. Thanks for your reaction 💖🦋
This is a group I discovered, from the movie. "American Graffiti" By Stephen Spielberg.
I love all their songs. Beautiful 50/60's love songs.
I look back now and wonder how I danced at their music instead of just sitting down and watching their unbelievable voices.
That's is music thank you twilight smoking in you eyes is amazing from the players thank you so much
You have to hear Freddie Mercury's solo version of this song! Phenomenal!!
My favorite group of all time.
Classic 50's vibe! My mama played this kind of muic for us all the time!
Beautiful voices. My Prayer is my favorite.
I watched them perform live at Olympia Stadium in Detroit 1956.. I still have all of their singles on original 45 RPM..I was also blessed to see The Beatles perform live again at Olympia Stadium in Detroit 1964. I think you would have been in heaven in my era.

Powerful stuff ... I was too young to fully appreciate the virtuosity - but I loved it!
Smooth as silk!!
What a great group. Before my time but thanks to radio I have heard them. Great reaction.
If you like this kind of music you will love Hot Chocolate singing 'I'll put you together again'
I grew up listening to the Platters because my Mama liked them. I did, too. My Daddy was a big fan of Jackie Wilson and he's awesome as well. Love your reaction videos.
Platters is an old term used for records, 78 rpm and 33 1/3 rpm usually b/c they resembled large dishes.
Smoke Gets ln Your Eyes was my favorite.
I had never heard this, but I THINK it's the song Chrissy Hynde named The Pretenders after! They were a great group.
Best music ever
My mom loved them, I’m hope she’s here with me listening 😞
My first introduction to music was this group
The lead singer Tony Williams sang beautifully. The music of the th the 1950’s was all about love. This was probably 1959.
we had some great music back in the 1950s, but we rarely got to see them - no videos, maybe an occasional TV appearance on Dick Clark's Bandstand or Ed Sullivan. So this is a new treat. I’m a 70 year old white woman. I say, Do You! I heard your comments on the other Righteous Bros. I totally understood what your comments were.
Excellent chioce.
I just love you and your orange juice comments😂
Just found your channel, AB. You are amazing! Loving your reactions from northern Alberta Canada!
Back in the 1950s. Raw talent.
Loved it!
I always think of my dad when hearing goodie but oldies....
Back in those days (the late 50s) a common term for a record was a platter. I don't know if that's where their name came from but it might be.
Welcome to the wonderful world of Do Wop music The Platters are one of the best.

@@solitarybee3714 I reckon the only reason they keep old farts like me around is to remind the young'uns of all the things they don't know. 👴😏
