I saw the new Death documentary a few weeks ago and Gene said he recorded the drums for the Symbolic album on a drum machine ...he said they were on tour (I believe in Europe) when they recorded that album so they did all the recording on the tour bus which would be very difficult for Gene and has very large kit ...so he said he replicated on the drum machine exactly what he had played during the short spurts of rehearsals they had before shows when they practiced the new stuff ...still ...both Gene and Nick are totally amazing, but Nick on this is mind blowing
Nick Barker and Charlie Benante have this in common: No matter what they are playing, they make it look effortless. These drum parts are anything but easy to replicate. What a beast.
when I was 13, I discovered death with this song and I loved it. Then I came youtube to see a live version and watched this video. This cover was so good and similar to the real song I tought this was the real death band for like 1 month. After finding out chuck was already dead I was devistated
@ShittyMcPoopyBalls He needs triggers for the kind of music he plays. Triggers have nothing to do with speeding up, and can't make you faster then you really are. They just serve to get clear notes on your bass drum when you play at high speeds... Learn it!
Now now.....lets not play this game, they are both great drummers, with complete diffrent styles and techinque. is not about who is better than the other, is about how great they both are in their own way.
Nick likes to eat and play drums. That's it. If he cut the calories back he would lose weight and be skinny like anyone else. But food is too damn tasty and irresistible to some people.
yes but consider , the more you are technical playingwise, the less you struggle, because you learn to use rebounce and cut down a bit of the physical effort ! then triggers which help a lot
@Naaga88 I still think Nicks drumming is better personally, his blasting is insane, the funny thing is they are both big guys, and both defy physics, i just love Nicks splash accents and what not though.
@85Aheadstix I'm familiar with his work in Dimmu Borgir :) I like Gene's and Nick's work equally, and they are both ferocious drummers and great personalities. The fact that Gene's a lefty drummer gives me a different point of view... There's no need for comparing them :D
@@nickbarker4180 hi Nick, you are a Drum God and a legend, so I just wanted to know if you ever listened to Atheist and if so, your opinion on Steve Flynn's drumming on UP. I think he's underrated. Rock on man!!

I know that most drummers play faster when they play live, but it really killed the groove that this song has. I never thought that this song would be hard to headbang to. Absolutely, a great drummer, but slow down so you can get into the tune! Fuck, this is frustrating.

Nick is a fucking machine holy shit
Were all metal head's we should be uniting not fighting!
R.I.P. CHUCK SCHULDINER
Nick Barker covering Gene Hoglan. Pure awesomeness and both are my favorite drummers!
agree, but pls check out STEVE FLYNN on ATHEIST's "Unquestionable Presence" or GNOSTIC's "Engineering The Rule" . he is underrated!
Nick is playing it faster than the Gene on the album.
yea just a bit
a lot of people do that when they play live, they get really hyped and get to excited.
true
Barker is much faster and more technical than Gene could ever be.
Nick Barker is a genius of drums playing. Every musical project is perfect when Nick Barker is on it.
Nick Barker and Charlie Benante have this in common: No matter what they are playing, they make it look effortless. These drum parts are anything but easy to replicate. What a beast.
Fucking Insane drummer. That breakdowns are just amazing!!!!
Nick Barker is so underrated.
Lex Talionis

their vocalist sounds like Tom Araya from slayer doing death vocals.... ITS SO BRUTAL \M/
not really
He's exactly sounding like Chuck! Not Tom
I always thought they said "now all were lost to the power of reptile. Stand strong boys!"
Its sooo fast!! I love it
5:30 alexis Laiho is that you
Lmao
Nick barker is the like the British Gene hoglan.
But bald, faster and more techical
Nowhere near as creative on his own though
WeWantYouToStay when has he ever been on his own?
I just loved it. Fitted nicely!
Are you high? Go listen to In Defiance of Existence.
ffp08 Never heard of them.
sick
yeah, almost perfect playing and music ofcourse \,,/

Already seen Nick Barker interview at our channel?
Damn that drummer is a fucking machine. In all the bands that he has played, they sound better with him. Brujería
for instance.
I always wonder how Nick can be so fat.. He is burning over 10.000 calories each song.. He is a mean machine on drums.. Gotta love him :-D
insane beast
such a great line

fuckin ace of the bass drum; Nick Barker.
Fodaaaaaaaaaa yheaaaaaa
@blindcynic Amen.
the band is phenomenal tho.. close your eyes and you think it's death
@BornUndivine Its your opinion... The concert of death 1998 was kickass!
I'll drink to that !
@ShittyMcPoopyBalls Barker drums effortlessly.
This tribute band is light years better than DTA
f true
The vocals sound like a cross between Chuck and Tom Araya
Death, never play live this song!
why?
i dont know why.
you know why
only Chuck knows why...
you are Chuck
Should rename this video nick barker with some blokes doing death cover. Commentary is mostly about him and rightfully so
A W E S O M E

@Naaga88 Well yeah, because he's triggering.
I like Tom Hunting from Exodus, check him out
You do realize Gene Hoglan made the drums for this song....
i dont think they gona be better cover than that !
@MrDuff12 not even a little bit
@brunostolosa I think he has a great style and he plays like a fucking atomic clock (as gene hoglan does :P).
@Naaga88 I have triggers silly!!! But you can obviously tell that he's putting no effort into his legs.

@85Aheadstix My brother's band's drummers name is Nick, and he looks just about like Nick Barker does here ... Weird
@Naaga88 that, and if you suck at drumming you'll sound even worse if you're using triggers.
El tributo es muy bueno y yo no me pondría a comparar ni a criticar nada mas así te la digo, que el tributo es en memoria de Chuck
Where i can buy this complete dvd????
João Gordo on drum
Hahah, Nicks like the Bald brit version of Hoglan.
Gene Hoglan Disliked this
VC Fernandez I seriously doubt that as we are friends of 25+ years and gave me his personal blessing cabròn!

La banda tributo, Colombiana???
Nick barker is a monster on drums while Nils Fjellström is GOD!
