hello sir, i passed the most difficult exam from grammar in discourse. me and Whip (my friend) we wanna really thank you for helping me, you're the best teacher ever, SIR. bye bye
Thank you for the explanation Sir. At first, I was confused about how a sentence can be analyzed through a tree diagram because usually I only analyze a sentence by determining which is the subject or verb and other elements without a diagram. The way you explain this lesson makes me understand the topic. How you deliver this topic is not rambling and always uses words that are easy to understand. Thanks to your explanation, now I can understand that sentences can be analyzed through tree diagrams and it turns out to be quite easy.
Thank you very much for the explanation sir. from this explanation video, it really helped me in doing sentence analysis using tree diagrams, where the main key is that we must first understand and know the Phrase sentence rules (PS rules) then know the types of phrases, namely NP, VP, AP, AdvP and PD. after that we will easily analyze sentences using tree diagrams. and Because PS rules will display a sentence analysis visualization, and that makes it easier for us.
Thank you for the explanation, Sir. I quite understand after watching the video. From your explanation I can conclude that we must know and understand the PS rules first to make us easier, both of to make tree diagrams and analyze sentences.
Thank you for your great explanation, sir. i can easily understand what you are saying about. i know how to analyze the sentence using tree diagram. Making tree diagrams will be easy if we know the phrase structure rule. In addition, tree diagrams are useful for providing an overview of the structure of all the words in a sentence.
Thank you so much for the great explanation sir. i can understand it well. from the video i found that firstly before going to draw the tree diagram of the sentence. we need to completely understood the phrase strucutre (PS) to be able to get it over with. and also, in drawing a tree diagram of a sentence, we cannot further break the label down if its the smallest label. we can only write the word after that.
thank you for the explanation sir. i can easily understand what this topic about. i got to analyze a sentence using a diagram, with your explanation i get and understand how to analyze this topic about using (PS) Phrase structure.
One of the strengths of using tree diagrams in sentence analysis is its applicability in analyzing all types of sentences. The more sentence you analyze the more PS rules you know.

Thankyou so much for the explanation sir 🙏🏻In a tree diagram, a sentence is divided into two parts: a subject and a predicate. They are made up of noun phrases or verb phrases. These are groups of words that include a noun or verb and any words that add as modifiers. The subject is a noun phrase while a predicate is usually a verb phrase.
Thank you for the explanation, Sir. From the video, I can conclude that to draw a tree diagram, we must know the phrase structure rules. A noun phrase is composed of a noun and other elements, such as a determiner, adverb, adjective, and prepositional phrase. These elements can be replaced only by the personal pronoun.

Dear Rusdi Noor Rosa, thanks for your video! A great quality, great knowledge of the topic you're talking about! Really helped me with my prepartion for exams! Best wishes from Russia!
Thank you sir for a nice and easy to understand video presentation. Now I understand using tree diagrams to analyze sentences. The trick is that we have to specify the phrase structure rules first. Thank you, sir.
Thank you for the explanation sir. From the explanation I understand to analyse the sentences using a tree diagram, we should determine the PS (phrase structure) rules first. Because PS rules will show visualization of the sentence analysis.
I'm so thankful for your explanation, sir. Overall, I got the point about sentence structure, especially about tree diagram. However, I got a bit confused about why only adverb degree is used in formula Adv. Phrase and Adj. Phrase? How about another types of adverb? Maybe that's all from me sir
It's such a detailed explanation about how to use a tree diagram in sentence analysis. I really appreciate your effort to share useful information to others. Good luck!

Sir, thank you for your explanation. After watching the video, I have a better understanding. I may conclude from your explanation that we must first learn and understand the PS rules in making it easy for us to draw tree diagrams and analyze sentences. I also understand from watching your video that we may talk about the relationships between different parts of a tree in tree diagrams. We will be able to discuss the syntactic relationships between parts of sentences in our conceptual grammar if we have this vocabulary for tree diagrams.
Thank you for the explanation sir🙏. One thing that must be underlined is that every sentence must have NP and VP. To be able to make a tree diagram, we must understand how the rules are. Next to AdvP, the main element is Adv, but can be followed by other elements such as Deg, CompP. Finally, PP which consists of Prep and NP. In writing the Det element, it must be specific because Det consists of several types such as article, Dem, Quant, ProS, NP Poss.
The most important poin before drawing a tree diagram is we have to know the PS (Phrase structure) rules. A sentence must consist of NP and VP. So analyzing or visualizing sentences using tree diagrams can also sharpen our memory about parts of speech.

Thankyou for the explanation. If you can analyze the PS rules first (This is the key), I think the PS rules are easy. When I first saw the tree, it was a little complicated, but it was easy. I was also interested in seeing it because I remembered the math FPB and KPK. I really like it. Thank you, sir
Thank you for your explanation, sir! It's easy to understand and it gains me knowledge through this lesson. I found out that in order to make a tree diagram or analyze sentences, we should study and know about the PS rules, determining the PS rules well. PS rules help me to guide on making the tree diagram and analyze sentences in the proper way. I plan to do practices in making tree diagrams and analyzing sentences. Mohammad Owen_20018075
Thank you for the explanation sir, I conclude that from the beginning the sentence consists of NP and VP. Does the sentence always consist of NP and VP from the beginning sir? or can it be more than that? I'm really looking forward to a video explaining more complex rule diagrams sir.
In my opinion, sentence structure starts with NP and VP because a sentence has at least one verb and one noun. Furthermore, the formula for NP and VP is very complex and comprehension or almost has all the parts of speech and also the phrase.
Thanks for the explanation sir. From the video I can conclude that a tree diagram is a chart that is useful for analyzing the grammatical structure of a sentence. In general, from several examples in the video, a sentence consists of NP and VP. In my opinion, before making a tree diagram, it is important for us to understand the part of speech material.
This was informative but I had a very difficult time comprehending his accent. I spent more time going back in the video, to try and decipher the words he said than I spent learning how to diagram a sentence tree.
Thank you sir for the explanation in an easy way to understand, I quite understand. from your video I got the point that in analyzing sentences using tree diagrams, we must first know the phrase structure rules to make it easier for us to make a tree diagram. Yunita Sari -20018102

thank you so much for your explanation, Sir. This video really makes it easier to understand sentence analysis using a tree diagram. From the video, I get that the primary goal of a tree diagram is to illustrate these concepts in a visibly apparent way, even for those previously unfamiliar with sentence diagrams. Thank you for your great explanation, sir. I can easily understand what you are saying about. I got how to analyze the sentence using tree diagram from the video. Making tree diagrams will be easy if we know the phrase structure rule. In addition, tree diagrams are useful for providing an overview of the structure of all the words in a sentence.

a crystal clear explanation, thank you very much sir. from my understanding, in order to draw a tree diagram we have understand the PS of all types of phrases (Phrase Structure) first, then we can classified the sentences using tree diagram. Now I become more interested in constituent analysis.
I now have a better idea after seeing the video. By your explanation, I conclude that we should first know and comprehend the Phrase structure rules of each of the phrases in order to build tree diagrams and analyze sentences easily. Thank you, Sir.
there's something that's been bothering me sir I hope you can answer this. but I guess by the time you read this, it's already too late. because today I'll sit on my final exam. I'll ask it anyway... so my lecturer said there's only 2 branches for every hierarchy level unless of course auxiliary and conjunction. but as you've shown in your other videos there's no problem having more than 3 branches for example. NP-> (det) (AP) N. but my lecturer taught us NP -> (det) (AP) AP-> Adj N. this confuses me. I don't think I can find this lexical rule anywhere... not in the book she gave us as the main reference and not in the internet. so I really don't know what to do now. I think I'll just follow her. because she'll be the one who marks the paper. but yeah I'm afraid once she starts marking the paper she follows the proper lexical rules (lol). so yeah I don't know what to do now. I think it's because she wants to make it only 2 branches for every level of hierarchy but can't we just write the same constituent twice but one being at the one hierarchy above. sorry if this doesn't make sense lemme show you what I means NP -> (Det) NP2. NP2 -> AP N. so it'll be like this NP-> (The) NP2. NP2 -> AP guy. AP-> Adj Adj-> hungry. can we do like this? or there's no problem having more than 2 branches for every hierarchical level. so it'd be like this; NP -> (det) (AP) N. (more than 2 branches) NP -> (the) (AP) Guy. AP-> Adj Adj-> hungry. to make it more clear, this is what she gave us; Basic Phrase Structure Rules S NP VP NP (Det) (Quant) (AdjP) N {PP} VP V {PP, NP, AdvP, AdjP}{CP} PP Prep NP AdjP (Qual) Adj N AdvP (Qual) Adv (PP)
There is no restriction in the number of branches in a tree diagram. The number of branches depends on the number of elements that constitutes a phrase. See Richard Veit (1986). Discovering English grammar.
Thanks for the explanation sir, but I wanna ask you how we can create a NP which is have more than one N? Like may be my name SRI REVI REGITA so how we can create a NP then sir?? I hope you can reply my question because I’m stuck here And another like PP because more than one preposition like In Queens, New York on 12 december 1998 How we can creat PP in tree diagram sir?? Thanks a lot
Thank you sir, for this great opportunity I was not understanding before because i don't know anything about the Ps rule But, i think am better than before now😊
Thank you for the clear explanation sir. It really helps me to understand sentence analysis. and I can easily practice using a tree diagram in analyzing a sentence. Ice Tri Cahyani_20018122
Thank you for your explanation, sir. It is really easy to be understood. The key point of making tree diagram is we should understand much about PS rules. This material is really attractive me but i wonder one thing, sir. In the example "The boy in a black jacket looks very smart" ,why the word "looks" is considered as linking verb, why cannot we consider directly as a verb, sir?. I think that's all for me. Thank you so much, sir. Nadhira Puti Isladara (20018077) K1-2020
Great video. But I'm still unable to properly use a tree diagram in analyzing Indonesian sentences. Particularly, it's hard for me to identify the elements of determiner in Indonesian language.
I'm still unable to formulate the PS rules for sentences in Indonesian language. Do you think that tree diagrams can be used in analyzing Indonesian sentences?
I believe that sentences in Bahasa Indonesia can be analyzed using a tree diagram. As I mentioned in the video, the key success in analyzing sentences using a tree diagram is the ability to formulate PS rules for each of the elements of the sentence.
The most important step is to break up the sentence into several phrases. Once you are able to identify each of the phrases in the sentence, it will be easier for you to formulate the PS rules.
Assalamualaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh. Thank you so much for your explanation sir, it's help me a lot to understand how to analysis a sentence by using a tree diagram, However, I feel a little bit difficult to understand for the first time because to understand a tree diagram we should know and understand the phrase structure rule. So maybe this is what I need to be understand first and also learn of all types of phrase. but so far, I got understand your explanation sir. Thank you sir 🙏 Mike Melia Putri K3. 20018017
The analysis involves three kinds of transformational rules. The first one is an inflectional transformation indicating passive voice "be + -en". The second one is a relative transformational rule using relative pronoun "which". The third one is a relative transformational rule to delete "which + was". I'll prepare the video for that sentence.
@@rusdinoorrosa9155 if I plus (which + was) between "a book" and "sent", I will get " I read a book which was sent by my mother". In this sentence, (I) NP and (read a book which was sent by my mother). Then I will analyse the VP. In the VP, it consists of V CP. CP also consists of C S. So, how should do the ( a book).
I read a book which was sent by my mother (S NP + VP) I (NP) + (VP) read a book which was sent by my mother a book which was sent by my mother (NP S) which was sent by my mother (S RP NP + VP + PP) which (NP ProR) + was sent (VP) + by my mother (PP) @@AungMyo-f8e
@@rusdinoorrosa9155 It is my experience that I didn't find such principles in PSG or TGG which can be used to analyse NP +S. In this sentence, (which was sent by my mother) it can be assumed as complementizer phrase of noun phrase (a book).
To be honest, I had already known that if complementizer functions as verb complementizer, it can be analysed. I then noticed that VP consists of VP + CP. CP consists of C and S (NP+VP).
Thank you for the explanation sir. It is a clear explanation. Based on video, we can conclude that to understand about structure of sentence and how to draw a tree diagram, we need to understand PS rules first followed by part of speech as the element. I hope we can continue this material for the next level. I enjoy to watch this video and it helps me a lot to understand the material clearly.
are there some kind of other form when breaking down a sentences but tree diagram? and can we use this tree diagram to illustrate morpheme structure or phoneme structure?
As I told you, there are some other possible diagrams you can use to visualize your sentence analysis. However, they have several weaknesses that are completed by a tree diagram. Therefore, I suggest you to use a tree diagram in analyzing sentences. A tree diagram can also be used to analyze morpheme structure and syllable structure.
We have 5 phrasal categories. In your sentence like "our new friend is friendly. Why must VP control adj friendly? Why does not adj.p control adj. Friendly?
Verb is not a modifier of an adjective. The adjective friendly is used to modify the linking verb be (is). Therefore, friendly is one of the constituents of VP in this context.
@@rusdinoorrosa9155 Thanks for the great explanation, sir. Would you mind drawing me the tree Diagrams for the following sentences? 1. Why are you interested in Syntax? 2. Are you interested in drawing the English tree diagram? 3. When he came,I have left. Thanks a lot, sir.
Thank you for your good presentation sir. Here i want to ask about possibility to start to analyze the sentences structure with fliping it from specific to the common ( starting from below to the bove) ?.
In addition to a tree diagram, there are several other diagrams that can be used in analyzing sentences. However, a tree diagram has been confirmed to be a simple and comprehensive diagram in visualizing a sentence analysis. It clearly shows all the words that constitute a sentence together with their respective labels.
thank you for the explanation sir, from your explanation I can understand and know the concept of a tree diagram and how to make it better and easier to understand.

I'm from Meedan, North Sumatra

Great. Once you understand the key concept of tree diagram, it will be easier for you to analyze any sentences by using a tree diagram.
You can watch the video demonstrating analysis of longer sentences by using tree diagrams at ua-cam.com/video/O0JssKMGcdg/v-deo.html
Got it sir, Thank you
Well done...
Thank you
Thanks for the explanation sir.
Assalamualaikum wr wb, Thank you so much for the explanation sir, The most important thingbefore drawing a diagram is that you need to know the phrase structure rules. The statement must consist of NP and VP. Therefore, you can also use tree diagrams to analyze or visualize sentences to sharpen your memory of part of speech.
Good understanding.
thank you so much for your explanation, Sir. This video really makes it easier to understand sentence analysis using a tree diagram. From the video, I get that the primary goal of a tree diagram is to illustrate these concepts in a visibly apparent way, even for those previously unfamiliar with sentence diagrams.

Once you understand the key concept of tree diagram, it will be easier for you to analyze any sentences by using a tree diagram.
Vielleicht ist dieses Baumdiagramm etwas anders, wenn es darum geht, Deutsch zu analysieren.
I think so
Kelemahan saya memang dalam mengidentifikasi PS rule itu Pak. Terimakasih pencerahannya Pak

Thanks for the explanation, sir. This video helped me to understand sentence analysis using tree diagrams, where the first thing that must be considered before drawing a tree diagram is to know the PS (Phrase Structure) rules. If we understand all kinds of PS rules, it will automatically make it easier to understand tree diagrams.
thank you so much sir
My pleasure...
Thanks for the explanation sir,
What I got from your explanation is we can classify sentences using tree diagrams when we know the structure of the phrases.
We actually do not classify a sentence, but we break down the sentence into several phrases.

I am grateful that I stumbled upon your channel. Your explanation was very easy to understand and concise. Thank you very much, God bless you.
Thanks. I'm happy to be helpful.
Thank you for your explanation, sir! It really helps me to understand sentence analysis using tree diagrams, where the most important point that we have to consider before drawing a tree diagram is that we have to know the PS (Phrase Structure) rules. If we already understand all the types of PS rules, it will make it easier for us to draw a tree diagram. Then, by using a tree diagram, we can visualize the analysis of a sentence very clearly.
I think that's all from me, sir. Once more, Thank you.
- Marwa Putri Bulkhairi (20018072)
a crystal clear explanation, thank you very much sir.
from my understanding, in order to draw a tree diagram we have understand the PS of all types of phrases (Phrase Structure) first, then we can classified the sentences using tree diagram.
Now I become more interested in constituent analysis.
Great. Pleased to hear that
I now have a better idea after seeing the video. By your explanation, I conclude that we should first know and comprehend the Phrase structure rules of each of the phrases in order to build tree diagrams and analyze sentences easily. Thank you, Sir.
Great conclusion.
Thank you for the explanation, sir. Is very detail and clear for me. Xoxo
My pleasure.
Great. The illustration is perfect, and the explanation is clear. Thank you for a great presentation of the concept of tree diagram.
You're welcome
there's something that's been bothering me sir I hope you can answer this. but I guess by the time you read this, it's already too late. because today I'll sit on my final exam. I think it's because she wants to make it only 2 branches for every level of hierarchy but can't we just write the same constituent twice but one being at the one hierarchy above. sorry if this doesn't make sense lemme show you what I means
NP -> (Det) NP2. NP2 -> AP N.
so it'll be like this
NP-> (The) NP2. NP2 -> AP guy. AP-> Adj Adj-> hungry.
can we do like this? or there's no problem having more than 2 branches for every hierarchical level. so it'd be like this;
NP -> (det) (AP) N. (more than 2 branches)
NP -> (the) (AP) Guy. AP-> Adj Adj-> hungry.
to make it more clear, this is what she gave us;
Basic Phrase Structure Rules
S NP VP
NP (Det) (Quant) (AdjP) N {PP}
VP V {PP, NP, AdvP, AdjP}{CP}
PP Prep NP
AdjP (Qual) Adj N
AdvP (Qual) Adv (PP)
There is no restriction in the number of branches in a tree diagram. The number of branches depends on the number of elements that constitutes a phrase. See Richard Veit (1986). Discovering English grammar.
Very clear. thanks
My pleasure
Thank you so much for your perfect explanation.. Even my lecturer couldn't explain it like you 😍😍👏👏👏

Thanks for the explanation sir, but I wanna ask you how we can create a NP which is have more than one N? Like may be my name SRI REVI REGITA so how we can create a NP then sir?? I hope you can reply my question because I’m stuck here
And another like PP because more than one preposition like In Queens, New York on 12 december 1998
How we can creat PP in tree diagram sir??
Thanks a lot
NP can consist of only N. So, in relation to the name (no matter howclong the name is), it only belongs to N.
Thank you sir, for this great opportunity
I was not understanding before because i don't know anything about the Ps rule
But, i think am better than before now😊
Great. My pleasure
Thank you for the clear explanation sir. It really helps me to understand sentence analysis. and I can easily practice using a tree diagram in analyzing a sentence.

As a language learner, the ability to analyze a sentence is absolute.

I've tried your suggestion, but I still face difficulties in determining the number of branches to several phrases that I've analyzed.
You should know the possible modifier(s) for each of the phrase core, i.e., noun, verb, adjective, and adverb.
Great video. But I'm still unable to properly use a tree diagram in analyzing Indonesian sentences. Particularly, it's hard for me to identify the elements of determiner in Indonesian language.
Bahasa Indonesia also introduces determiners, such as possessive pronoun and quantifiers.
Great ...
Thank you
I really appreciate your video. The slides and the presentation are great.
Thanks. I hope it is useful.
Hello, by any chance, have you got a lesson on nature and function?
Yes, I have
Great explanation. But I am still unable to formulate the PS rules correctly. Is there any suggestion?
The most important step is to break up the sentence into several phrases. Once you are able to identify each of the phrases in the sentence, it will be easier for you to formulate the PS rules.

You're right. You need to understand the rules of every phrase structure
How can I analyse the sentence " I read a book sent by my mother." by using phrase structure grammar.
I read a book which was sent by my mother (S NP + VP)
I (NP) + (VP) read a book which was sent by my mother
a book which was sent by my mother (NP S)
which was sent by my mother (S RP NP + VP + PP)
which (NP ProR) + was sent (VP) + by my mother (PP)
@@AungMyo-f8e
Yes, I agree. PS rules can help us in analyzing the sentences and understanding the sentences properly.
You're right
I loved your explanations with examples. Thanks a lot!

Terimakasih Pak. Saya mengerti bahwa jumlah cabang yang terdapat dalam diagram pohon ini didasari oleh jumlah konstituen yang terdapat dalam PS rules.
Oleh karena itu, PS rules harus dibentuk dulu sebelum membuat diagram pohon. Jika kamu sudah menguasai PS rules, maka PS rules itu tidak perlu kamu tuliskan.
Friendly is not an adjective it is adverb because it modifies the verb
Friendly is an adjective. It comes after the linking verb (is). Based on its formation, it is derived from noun + ly that forms an adjective.
❤❤
Thanks
Thank you for the brigth explanation
Hope it would be useful.
are there some kind of other form when breaking down a sentences but tree diagram?
and can we use this tree diagram to illustrate morpheme structure or phoneme structure?
