  • To promote their latest album and title song "Living Eyes", here are the brothers Gibb on the Phil Donahue talk show from 1981.
    Note: The airdate is based off KTSM's airing in El Paso, and may have aired at a slightly different time since syndication bicycling was still in use at the time.

    Oh, the charisma and energy flowing from these three guys sitting on a stage with two acoustic guitars! It is no wonder they’ve had mega hit songs spanning 5 decades! Their music is timeless and they’ll always be remembered as three bright lights in a dark world who brightened all our lives with their amazing ability to write and sing songs full of love and joy.

    I absolutely love the camaraderie between brothers Barry, Maurice and Robin Gibb. Their unique personalities, incredible voices and songs have charmed audiences for decades. Despite personal hardships and an ever changing music industry, the Bee Gees soothed themselves with music. They were able to re~invent their sound into timeless classic love songs that resonate with people of all ages. The world is truly blessed by the phenomenal talent and legacy of the Bee Gees. R.I.P. Andy, Maurice and Robin. You are loved and your music will touch hearts and souls around the the world forever. May Barry be comforted by memories of brotherly good times and the music they shared 🕊✨️💫❤️‍🔥🎉. From Ontario, Canada 🫶

    The Bee Gees, the Best! Most groups would be content to have written one hit for themselves, they wrote hits for Dionne Warwick, Franki Valli, Barbara Streisand, Dolly Parton&Kenny Rogers, Celine Dion and many Others. A great deal is made of disco but in the end good music is good music and The Bee Gees made great music. Rest In Peace Maurice, Robin and Andy. Hang in there Barry.

There were moments I felt embarrassed for them but it's Donohue that should be ashamed of himself.

    The harmonies these three brothers produce is just phenomenally unique and distinctive. It’s so very sad that there will be no more music by them. I was devastated by the death of Andy, who tragically died way too soon. Andy’s speaking voice was very similar to Barry’s and he looked so much like him as well. All four Gibb brothers are all very grounded and humble even though they were immensely successful.

    The Living Eyes Album is a FINE piece of work.YES, both the singles failed to do much chartwise either heer in the UK or, it seems, in other territories.I think that was simply because people were expecting more of what they had before with the strident falsetto of the SHF album and were rather shocked (disappointed?) with what the album actually contained.Truth be told, at that point they could probably have come out with a career defining masterpiece but it would not have sold.The American "disco sucks" campaign caused great damage to many and tarnished anyone who could be "tagged" with the disco name.Beautiful stuff like "Wildflower" and "Be Who You Are (THAT intro!)are therefore strangers to the larger,music loving public to this day.At this same time, November 1981, they were here in Britain to promote both this single and album.They appeared one Saturday night on the Micheal Parkinson show, a very long running and prestigious programme. To close the show they did GORGEOUS version of Silent Night, only a bit of it, but enough for you to hear just HOW wonderfully Barry's voice sounds when backed by Robin's classic vibrato. Video: "Bee Gees .Silent Night Parkinson (1981)"

    • @juantarctica
      @juantarctica 5 років тому +18

      steve radford In 1981, Maurice was back, having kicked the bottle and wanted a way more active role, just like Robin.
      But the big successes had been a result of Barry being in charge producing the sound millions loved, with Albhy Galuten and Karl Richardson and their favorite session players.
      The Living Eyes demo, of the title song, shows they got it right first. That still got the warm Fever sound, with a disco drumbeat and a very soothing electrical piano.
      As a whole, the album was all over the place and too difficult to market, cause the Twins wanted to be profiled individually with their songs.
      Yet the audience was accustomed to complex refined songs with a lot of warmth mixed with darkness by then. All the hits for Andy were creative complex masterpieces by Barry, mainly.
      It never hurt to leave him in charge, it always paid off.

      Oh, Steve, thanks for the referrals of songs, I will check them out. The media/critics WERE biased and totally into trying to control public opinion about the Bee Gees. It's just indicative of the liberal media/controlling elite's agenda to scrub our culture free of any public figures in music who portray a faith-filled, positive life, a loving home life where they are faithful to one wife and attentive to their kids; who model a spiritual outlook to life. Boy, do I have a soapbox about liberal media and their desire for thought-control. In short, everybody: check out alternative news sources such as the Drudge Report and Alex Jones News, because the liberal thought-controlling elite's censoring of the Bee Gees is just the tip of the iceberg in how they baldly lie and try to control public opinion. CNN, MSN, etc. are consummate, skilled liars. Period. Don't even turn on their channels! Why fill your head with "news makers" who have proven to lie and cover up the truth over the years: JFK's murder by LBJ and J. Edgar Hoover; murders of MLK, RFK, JFK, Jr.; hellooo -- all the 150 or so murders the Clintons are responsible for --- I could go on and on about them lying about education, vaccines (containing known neuro toxins of aluminum, formaldehyde and mercury!!!), etc. but hey, you can get the picture if you inform yourself and THINK about it. Don't drink liberal Kool Aid!!!
