It's so weird to be laughing and crying at the same time. She's making them all realize what people mean to each other... but there's also Raccacoonie.
I just felt the same at the movies. I cried and laughted a lot. Not just me but Everybody in the room. Long time i dont see a movie like that. This was born a cult. I knew from that moment its was the movie of the year. But you know, i think Elvis would deserve an oscar. It was very touching too. Both movies. But of course, Everything Everywhere at all once was/is unique.
I love how when Evelyn "defeats" an opponent, their earpiece falls off. They don't need to 'verse jump anymore because they found a way to be happy where they are.
after rewatching this so many times, i just realized that evelyn isn't giving them their best version of themselves, but the happiest version of themselves. Which lines up with the thesis of this film, everyone is trying to be the 'best version' of themselves that sometimes we forget that being happy is what actually fulfills us. Evelyn wins by tapping into the silly version of herself, the sausage fingers, the sign spinners, the pinky kung-fu master... because at the end of the day, nothing matters, the universe is silly, be happy.
It's a very beautiful way of emphasizing yin/yang, shown with the bagel and the eye being inverses of each other. "Nothing matters" can be a horribly empty thought, but it can also be one that brings you relief. Ultimately, at the end of the day, as long as you find your happiness - does anything else NEED to matter?
No matter how many times I see this, I’m always struck by the little mini-scene of Evelyn and Chad. Even though she’s struggling not to laugh while he’s crying over Raccacoonie, even though she acknowledges that it’s silly… she still apologizes without trying to justify her actions, and she still does everything she can to make sure Chad and Raccacoonie are reunited. Now *that* is radical empathy: “I don’t understand you and the things that make you happy, but because they make you happy, I’ll fight for them.”
Okay, but also wanna say Chad's crying is VERY well done. Like this actor must've tapped into some sad emotions to sound THAT convincing during a crying fit. I could feel myself easily feel bad for him.
Usually directors give themselves very basic, hidden roles in their films. But Daniel Scheinert, no. He chose to be the guy who gets his a$$ god slapped by Michelle Yeoh
@@Brandon_4272 Sometimes all someone needs to straighten out their mood and attitude is getting their booty god slapped by a woman who also yells at them. Everyone in this scene needs something to realize they don’t actually want to fight and that there’s something to live for… and I guess this guy just needed a spanking.
The most niche detail about this made me SOB, the kung fu master eating her little cookie. I have no idea why, it's just so pure to me how shes sitting down and enjoying her cookie, i love her
This is one of the many moments that broke me into sobbing; I'm the Evelyn type, although I can see the good side of things I often look at the pessimistic one and although I don't give up I feel burnt out, tired af and like a cracked vase leaking water. It is hard for me to set aside the bad and keep going on like it is nothing or even look at the funny side of it all, it feels like you are every day fighting against the tide all by yourself and this moment made me just crack because it makes one rethink how you fight for your dreams and aspirations, why and if that has actually got me anywhere. "Fighting" like Waymond has always been massively difficult for me but I think is a step by step process which I'm foolishly compromised to accomplish.
I think I have to mention this. The office manager getting spanked? Its Daniel Scheinert - one of the writer directors of the movie. He wrote that character.
I can't tell you what it is, maybe it's because I'm just a sucker for good fight scenes, but it's this part of the movie that absolutely breaks me over everything else. Maybe it's because we've gotten so used to Evelyn the Ass-Kicker up to this point, that seeing her "fight" people by helping them with their problems (solving a failing marriage, reminding a veteran of a nostalgic smell, fixing a guy's injured neck), it just gets me. When she get's on Chad's shoulders, and the music picks up in speed, and they fight together, I just break down into a laughing crying mess. It's such an odd combination of something so silly yet so endearing, I've NEVER seen a movie pull it off before.
Just watched this movie yesturday... Instant classic. So much emotion and action. The music, the visuals, and the story were so well done. I think anybody can enjoy this movie. So good.
This immediately became my all-time favorite movie! It was so well done! And it perfectly describes the pain of nihilism. It mixes comedy with such heavy drama so well, and provides such a strong and powerful argument to prove life can have meaning and is worth fighting for. Thank you so much for this, it has really helped me through some really dark times... I know it seems silly to relate so much to a movie character... But I felt like I could guess Joy's lines before she spoke them, because I knew where she was coming from. And the way this movie addresses those feelings and offers such a strong alternative to them... Just thank you. Thanks so much
God bless the Daniels for gifting us with this treasure that honors the humanity and brilliance of the overlooked and gives vibrance and texture to all of life's mundane complexities. I salute them.

Hollywood didn’t make this tho. This was a24 and a lot of the folks in the production team have been working together for years. A lot of corners were cut and they still made it happen.
Finding sense in nonsense, something that matters in a useless infinity.. Making it value, unique; making it ours, everything, everywhere, all at once. A really crazy movie for sure! But an incredible and wonderful one, with so many messages, all so many deep rooted in our reflecting and wondering souls. Edit: something I just discovered after looking details of the movie, Joy's Beagle and Evelyn's goggly eyes are literally the yin and yang, representing Nihilism (life is meaningless and every good thing is temporary) and Existentialism (life is meaningless therefore any little moment is important, pain and sufferings are temporary and you can let them go)
As someone who had a back and neck injury that affected my nervous system, watching that guy get adjusted and find his happy place was a 10/10 for me lol

Am I the only one who realize that by the end of the movie Evelyn is no longer living in her original universe? In this clip Evelyn is in her original universe fighting inside the IRS building. Evelyn & Waymond are also wanted by the Federal police in her original universe. By the end of the movie Evelyn stays in the universe where the fight never broke out. Meaning, they went home & had the party. I wonder how everything will get resolved in Evelyn's original universe? Because her & Waymond are still wanted by the Federal police in the original universe
