A trick for growing Turmeric

- There are tons of great plants to grow from the grocery store. Turmeric is high on the list because it is easy, beautiful, and perennial.
I also want to add that turmeric is so well adapted to the wet/dry tropical that it can be dug up and dry stored inside through the winter for all you guys in more temperate places(ie. zones 6-8).
If only the rabbits would let it grow here...
I've been having this same problem with Turmeric like in your video. Several attempts have failed. I think that you pointed me in the right direction. Thank You.
Turmeric needs moisture to shoot faster. You need to put them in moist peat moss. Put them in an east or west facing room with a lot of heat to raise the temperature (above 75F). Mine got shoots and roots in a little more than a month even though all of them were very small with no buds on them when I first bought them.
Delighted to come across your channel. I am in DFW. Looking forward to your new videos.
Thank you for taking the time to teach about something real.
Thanks for this handy tip... Will stay tuned for more :)
Thanks for taking the time to make this video 👍👍👍
Good work bro, you just gained a new subscriber can't wait to learn more stuff!

Thank you...just learning to plant turmeric...good tip 😀
4 # 28$ amazon.not my store but they sell beautiful roots. My rabbits love ginger and tumeric so i plant alot . they generally leave the roots untouched. My special gingers i but chicken wire around them and after they flower i give the rabbits the stalks. Thanks 4 the tip...i found out when i left mine on a porch in a plstic jug....buds were coming alive. Didnt take long maybe couple weeks. Heat and am sun.
..
I sub’d as soon as you said “here in Houston”.
Excellent tip - thanks. At the store 9/2019.. it's selling for about $8.00/lb in the produce section. Ginger is about $5.00/lb. So Growing it would be a very good idea.
Excellent tip man. I was looking for such a video.
A good tip on protecting your turmeric from rabbits even if they are Texas rabbits is use chicken wire, or something besides a 4" or 2" square fence,.you'll find that fencing is like an open door to your turmeric, maybe it will keep out a pig if you electrify the fence. Put some smaller opening around your plant such as 1" chicken wire to protect it from rabbits and other varmints .Advice on growing seems good, have had some good and bad results just planting without waiting for it to sprout. Thanks
I will follow all the steps to plant it again I love turmeric I planted once but it didn't work out😊I will try it out again ,
Hola! Thanks for posting! Just looking for just this.
Sit some in water,it will grow nice roots,n do change the water often :)
So by leaving them outside not potting them right away, waiting until the buds come out ?
Not sure I comprehend the question but if you let them stay dry for a while(especially now when it is cool) it doesn't hurt them. Once it is warm they will grow faster and you can pot them up and water often
I cut the turmeric into smaller pieces before growing them now I'm not sure if its gonna grow cause the plant grew and the roots grew too but there were no pieces of turmeric
Sub hub Has ur tumeric grown?
loved the tip and the shirt!
Awesome video excellent Justin Rhodes sent me over new sub here thanks so much!
Hello new subscribers here
Hi. Thanks for the "Hello"
It seems my turmeric dries up and shrivels. I live in a very dry climate. In Northeast Arizona. Do you think misting it with water would help
Eh, that's a lot of work. You sure the soil didn't dry out? If the leaves are getting damaged from the dryness I would suggest growing it in the shade near plants that increase moisture. It loves moisture during the growing season. If you are playing the moisture game it is about plant density and mulch/organic matter.
@@inwoodeden2440 I'm sorry I wasn't clear the part that's drying out is the rhizomes before planting
I'm hoping if I miss them on the top of my refrigerator went to water my indoor plants during the winter it will help them to not shrivel up. Just wanted your thoughts
There is a suggestion in a new comment above that looks like it could help. He uses dry potting media. You could also look into vermiculite(to bury them in). Just having particulate matter around it is gonna have considerable affect on the humidity.
Buy organic nothing scraped off. They grow amazing you have nothing to lose but lots to gain
Just subbed, thx 👍
Great videos and garden! How large is your property that you garden on?
0.65 acres
Love your property! I am interested in starting a food forest, but it's on hold for a while. Gathering info from everywhere :)
Would like to email a request, but I don't see an email addy anywhere. (Perhaps it's here somewhere .... technology challenged :p)
Blessings~
Go to the "about" tab and then look for a little icon with horizontal lines. It will say "send message"(I think that is how to do it)
Nope, wasn't one :(
I also didn't see anything either but that might be because the layout is different on the cell app. You can also connect and send messages to the Inwood Eden facebook page. facebook.com/SardisLaneFarm/
What temperature does turmeric grow best at? I'm in zone 2 (believe it or not) and I have to grow exotic plants indoors. Trying to figure out how hot a sun room should be. I also just started my channel last year, high five to a fellow beginner!
Turmeric is a solid wet season/dry season tropical. Above 80degrees should keep it growing fine. As far as, "the point on the thermostat where it stops growing" I don't know. You might have to experiment.
Thanks!
Resistance is fertile!
