Ugandan People's Defence Force Air Force (UPDAF), more commonly known as Ugandan Air Force, is the branch of the Uganda People's Defence Force (UPDF) that deals with the air warfare with its headquarters located at Entebbe, central Uganda.
The UPDAF wing was initially founded in 1964, 2 years after the 1962 Independence.

Over the years, the UPDAF has successfully engaged in very many military tours across the African continent.
The UPDAF was very crucial during the Uganda-Tanzania War, known in Tanzania as the Kagera War and in Uganda as the 1979 Liberation War, which was fought between Uganda and Tanzania from October 1978 until June 1979 and led to the overthrow of Ugandan President Idi Amin.
In 1980, the UPDAF by then known as Uganda Army Air Force under the command of the then president, Apollo Milton Obote played a key role during the Ugandan Bush War, also known as the Luwero War, the Ugandan Civil War or the Resistance War, a civil war which was fought in Uganda by the official Ugandan government and its armed wing, the Uganda National Liberation Army (UNLA), against a number of rebel groups, most importantly the National Resistance Army (NRA), from 1980 to 1986. However, the NRA, under its revel leader by then, Yoweri Kaguta Museveni won the battle in 1986 and overthrew Obote's government.
The UPDAF was also very active in the First Liberian Civil War from 1989 until 1997. The conflict killed around 200,000 people and eventually led to the involvement of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and of the United Nations.
UPDAF bravely participated in the Sierra Leone Civil War (1991-2002), or the Sierra Leonean Civil War, a civil war in Sierra Leone that began on 23 March 1991 when the Revolutionary United Front (RUF), with support from the special forces of Charles Taylor's National Patriotic Front of Liberia (NPFL), intervened in Sierra Leone in an attempt to overthrow the Joseph Momoh government. The resulting civil war lasted 11 years, enveloped the country, and left over 50,000 dead.
