@Burning The House Of God I fucking love Igorrr, but they're not as industrial, as this is. They just do different stuff, but this dude, he's industrial as fuck
Saw this dude tonight opening for Tool. My first impression was that it was a very cool sound, but it did get old after a few songs. The bass was absolutely brutal. My teeth were rattling and my vision was blurring. I've never felt anything like it before.
But you thought Tool were good(?) - That's insanity. - Maynard lost his voice 15 years ago, and they haven't done any original stuff for the last three albums.
My hope for the future of electronic musicians is that this becomes a staple of what their aesthetic is about. DIY, custom controllers or even just custom programming of mainstream controllers and live coding
I program myself and sometimes watch other people code. It is educational and takes a lot of concentration. It is not fun in the primal, visceral sense like a concert. Sounds like a shitty concert. It will never catch on. Also, sounds shitty. Oh one more thing, never going to happen.
The best part is that you don't even have to like this kind of music to appreciate this guy's creativity, intelligence, and innovative spirit. This guy is insanely smart!
Agreed 100% my first reaction after listening to him was all these other bands like NIN and Ministry lied to me when they call themselves industrial. Lol
Very interesting but I can't imagine how anyone can listen to this stuff and actually enjoy it. Shows how wide different people's tastes can be, which is a very good thing !
@@guillll I don't blame ya man lol. Variety in taste is great though, keeps music interesting! If everyone enjoyed the same sounds the world would get boring quick I think!
This dude is the future. What's even more impressive is that no one will ever be able to work his machine but him. No one else will be able to unlock the full potential of his creation.
Holy shit there are some dumb comments on this video. Did you even watch the video? Not only does he explain how it's all open source (so anyone can go away and make these machines if they have the resources) and he talks you through EXACTLY how to use the machines... they're just MIDI controllers dude. Anyone with a rudimentary knowledge of how MIDI works could pick this all up within 30 minutes.
I watched this dude play years ago at mountain bar in China Town LA. Honestly I wasnt sure what was happening at the time but now a days im truly inspired by what hes done.
Congratulations on opening up for Tool on the early 2020 dates. If I knew that i would have waited to see them instead of going to Denver. Still is great to see you get some serious gigs.
I met Tristan and his crew in a bar in Memphis after he opened for tool. Played shuffleboard with my brother and I. We didn’t realize it was him until the bartender told us. SUPER humble and nice guy! Wouldn’t consider myself a doom metal fan but he and his crew put on an awesome show.
This man is brilliant, the way he put everything together. He connected dots no one else would have thought to connect and made something most people wouldn't imagine and made music people wouldn't have ventured to make with it.
This is so cool, I heard author and punisher on spotify and fell in love with the sound. I had no idea it was all manual, so much talent goes into this from the creation of the machines to the playing of them, amazing
I love this stuff. Remember when I first came across it quite some time ago. He set the new standard for industrial music. He could easily create soundtracks for horror movies and games. I have author and punisher need to find more of his stuff
First time I heard this I thought it was kind of gimmicky so I am so glad I gave it another go around. Very interesting how he combines art with technology. Quite extreme in both regards...artistic and technical. Now I'm hooked.
This guy is awesome! I don't get the critical comments. Don't you prefer a world where people grab on and execute whatever musically creative energy that bubbles up in their sack of meat and bones? I prefer that world, as imperfect as it might be, to one where people systematically extinguish creative energy in favor of bingeing on television.
sure. I just don't like his "I created all this" vibe, when he's just making bigger controllers for midi. people have been modular-building synths for decades with the same results
@@StanleyKubick1 As someone who really enjoys modulars, that's something entirely different. As for 'bigger controllers for midi,' sure, but he engineered it all himself and managed to create a rig where he can do an entire live show by actually playing each and every sound, instead of just using a 'push to play'. I mean the difference between his HOTAS style setup and just a regular midi keyboard alone is apples and oranges. Not to mention the fact he does generate sounds from scratch with some of the equipment like the custom mic and the throat equipment.
This is like the opening shots for what I think will become the next wave of musicians and creative types: people using open-source technology like Arduino/Raspberry Pi to create not only sound, but trigger lighting effects and whatever else for the stage. More control to the artist, and new avenues to explore in terms of performance. Revolutionary. I've never heard of Author & Punisher before (this popped up in my suggested videos to watch), but I'll be sure to check out his music now.
its actually pretty simple if you get behind the design. its just moving parts connected to movement sensors that translate those movements to a language that a DAW understands (MIDI).
