    I have OD Green camo scales on a Becker BK10 crewman knife.
    TKC makes great scales for the Becker’s also!

      Yep, it's the place to be, to get good aftermarket scales, for a variety of different brands now it seems.
      Good stuff!
      Thanks for watching!

    The TKC scales really make a huge difference on ESEE knives. My ESEE 4 instantly became a lot more useful with the new scales.

      likota123 I completely agree. I did not use either of my ESEE's nearly as much as I do now. Night and Day difference.

    I have the TKC scales on my Esee 3 and 5 they are the best well worth the money and the guys over at TKC are great to work with. My Esee 5 saved my ass big time

      Yea great company. For everyone else in the comments, If your getting an ESEE, go through them for sure! It'll save you A LOT of money through their knife builder program! You dont get the knives to their full potential until they have a good pair of contour'd scales on them. Best I've found so far is from The Knife Connection.

    • @TomJonesGearGuy
      @TomJonesGearGuy 7 років тому +1

      Also not sure if anyone said anything but I think The Knife Connection is the only place you can buy just the blade if you buy their scales at the same time. Saving you some money not having to buy a knife then buy the customer scales too.

    • @survivalofthefittest409
      @survivalofthefittest409  7 років тому +1

      I dont know if TKC is the ONLY place you can buy just the bare blade but yea thats what I was refering to when I was talking about the 'Knife Builder' option on their site. Start with a bare blade and customize it from there, save's you ALOT of money and you not buying extra stuff after that!

    I got the esee as a gift and don't have much money. I like the idea of the tkc scales as the esee ones are uncomfortable after lots of use. how plastic feeling are they? do they still feel very tough and durable like the esee ones?

    • @survivalofthefittest409
      @survivalofthefittest409  7 років тому

      Curt Shaylor they are made of g10 so they are every bit as tough as the micarta. will last forever and are wayyyy more comfortable. you wont regret getting them if you do!

    Which knife do you prefer, the 5 or the 6? I'm trying to decide between those two and the Tops Silent Hero and Tex Creek XL knives for my main survival knife. I do carry the Husqvarna Forest Axe and Mora Bushcraft Black as my backup or companion knife.

    • @survivalofthefittest409
      @survivalofthefittest409  5 років тому +2

      To be perfectly honest..the 6 *by far.*
      The 5 is a good knife, you want something nearly indestructible..there ya go..but what I soon discovered is that is was unnecessary for me..and probably the average person.
      The 6 is plenty tough enough at 3/16 thick, and when ounces = pounds..and pounds = pain..you really dont want unnecessary weight on your side or in your pack.
      A knife is meant to cut & slice. The 5 was meant for military personnel who were trying to pry there way out of helicopters and stuff of that matter, so instead of carrying a pry bar..they could have a pry bar with an edge...which can sacrifice more effective cutting capabilities.
      The 6, with TKC scales is what your gonna end up wanting, out of all those options, in my humble opinion.
      I'm gonna do an update video on my thoughts on the 5 in the near future.
      It's not a bad knife.. *in the least* ...I just find it unnecessary.
      The 6 ends up seeing most of the action out of all my knives, and the 5 has actually been swapped now, for a Junglas II, which will make its debut on the channel very soon!

      @@survivalofthefittest409 Thanks, that's exactly what I wanted to know. I have the Husqvarna Forest Axe for chopping and splitting wood, and I have my Mora Bushcraft Black for the finer detailed tasks. I think i will go with the ESEE 6 because it seems to be way more nimble and better at doing general knife tasks.

    • @survivalofthefittest409

      @@joeyjones9041 Awesome, really glad I could help!
      It absolutely is though. That finger choil makes a big difference with control.
      The extended flat pommel is really useful too, and the full flat is good for slicing.
      Its really a great do-all utility/survival knife and it's what I keep in my bag as well.
      Put a 90 on the spine and you are set!

    Say Heah, WoW, their beautiful, I didn't like the Rodent 6, for what I do, the Double guard just didn't cut it. So Busse Custom Shop took care of that, I had the top guard taken and thinned down but very little, it definitely improved when slicing though. But my Rodent 6 now looks like my Ratmandu but on steroids, I left everything else stock, the handles are slightly swelled, I luv my Modde Rodent 6, I got a Spec-Ops Sheath that fits perfectly. But I do like what you did to yours. Dilly Dilly.,,.p

      Thank you friend.
      A little piece of advice though, having had them both...I'd skip the 5..😬
      For 99.99% of everything you're gonna do/need a knife for...it's gonna be major overkill, and will probably be the last knife you reach for after a while, if you have other options.
      You'll definitely notice the weight, and it's overly thick, for most knife stuff.
      Not saying it's bad, it's just a very..specific purpose driven knife, made purposely that thick..to pry your way out of a downed aircraft..and still use it as a knife afterwards.
      I sold mine, but kept the 6, which is *far more practical,* and I use a ton..even with many other options available.
      But, that's just me. Maybe you do need a knife that thick, I can't say.
      I just know that alot of guys, including myself lol, see the 5 and think we need it...till we get it..and realize...it might not be all that practical, for most of our knife needs haha.
      Anyways, I appreciate you checkin out my video and commenting.
      If it's really what you want, I hope you get one bro.
      It will never break on you, I can say that! 🤣

    • @survivalofthefittest409
      @survivalofthefittest409  6 років тому +1

      Yes they came out with the Junglas II sometime last year (I think).
      Its basically the exact same knife as the original, just 2 inches shorter in blade length.
      Review done.
      Haha just kidding.
      The scales on the Junglas look (from what i can tell) to be slightly more rounded, maybe contoured than the ESEE 5/6. Im not sure i'll replace them at all, ill just have to get one to see!
      My Dark Timber Honey Badger has got to be the most comfortable scales of that style ive ever held, thus far.
