- The Tar Heel roster feels essentially set at this point with 11 scholarship players on the team. It’s a different make-up than what we’re typically used to so the question is - if you were starting from scratch with this team, how would you put things together? RJ Davis and Elliot Cadeau seem locked in as starters. Beyond that how would you put things together? What kind of offense would you run? Would you play some pressure defense? Who else would start? Ian Jackson? Cade Tyson? Jalen Washington? Seth Trimble? Jae’lyn Withers?
The Diamond Heels’ College World Series run and season came to an end on Tuesday in an elimination game against Florida State. It’s been a fun season and the most productive of Coach Scott Forbes young head coaching career.

It may be only 11 players, but it's 11 extremely talented players. I would try to put together two well balanced teams so I could platoon 5 for five at first. Different situations will call for different teams. I might play a run & gun team: Cadeau, Davis, Tyson, Powell, and Jackson. I might play my big team: Trimble, Lubin, Tyson, Washington, and Withers. But eventually I think I have to settle with my starting team: Cadeau, Davis, Tyson, Lubin, and Washington. Though, I still believe there is potential for High, Jackson, and Withers to turn into starters.
This team needs to go fast fast fast, like the old roy team's in order to get enough possessions for everyone. Their is alot of athleticism but undersized. I would run Cadeau, Davis, Tyson, Lubin, and Washington. (play them normally) Then like you said come in with a full five of Trimble, Jackson, Powell, High, and Withers. I would full court press with the 2nd team (zone on makes/man to man on misses) and have them play really fast and aggressively (like dean's old blue team) for about 5 minutes. That 2nd platoon allows Trimble and Jackson chances to play point and forces Hubert to get those 2nd teamers minutes. I'd do it in the 2nd half too. That way the subs are guaranteed 10 minutes. After that Hubert can feel out his substitututions going big or small as the game dictates.

These are fun conversations to speculate on. I think the wing play will be generally better, but that we are not as impaired as we may think we are with Bacot's departure.
Davis and Cadeau would automatically be my starting guards and Jalen Washington would be my first option at center. Everything else would be interchangeable.
They keep sleeping on Washington watch him come out and be our 2nd or 3rd leading scorer

As far as coach Kilby's hypothetical starting lineup I can't recall a team making the final four much less winning a championship with a 6'8" center.

I just looked it up Sean may was 6ft 8 to 6ft 9 depending which site you look at. That unc team was one of the most dominant national championship teams in my lifetime
1989 Illinois Flying Illini had a starting 5 of 6'4" Kendall Gill,6'5" Stephen Bardo at the guards,6'5" Nick Anderson and 6'6" Kenny Battle at the forwards and 6'7" Lowell Hamilton at center. 6'8" forward Marcus Liberty and 6'3" Larry Smith came off the bench. They made it to the Final Four and got beat by Michigan,whom they beat the Wolverines twice during the season. It's hard to beat a team 3x in a year,but it can happen.

I would suggest using the bench a ton this year because there is not a huge difference between the starters and the bench in talent except for RJ. I also think we consider starting a freshman like Ian if he earns it. Both would be recruiting tools in future years for freshmen and portal to want to come. Welcome back Pac Kilby! Go Heels...worried about rebounding against Alabama Kansas Duke...as they all have 3 talented 6'10" proven 240 pound bigs...Dukes guards are 6'5" and 7 footer...best 6'9" in country...how can we run without the basketball? Any suggestions UNC faithful? Go heels.❤

All of that sound great and needs to be done with the lack of size playing with pace but I haven’t seen Hubert play that style much that better change this year

I see a lot of what Pac Kilby is saying but I think he is wrong with his first 5. I would start Cade at the three and Lubin at the 4 and Jalen Wash as the 5 which makes us bigger and stronger. I would let the guards really get after people. I would play all 4 between 15 and 25 min a game. I would play Withers at 4 and 5 giving him about 20 min a game. I would play Drake Powell strictly at the three. When turning up the defense Jackson, Trimble, Powell, Lubin, and Withers. The best offense would be RJ, Cadeau, Cade, Jackson and J Wash.
