You are killing me here... Achilles, a must have. But Andy please, do a Churchill or a Matilda or something no one has ever done in 1/16 scale.
Absolutely !!! It's a constant parade of mundane German & US stuff. All of which has been done to death. I'm all in on a Tilly or Church, or how about a swing for the fence with a Somua S35
Or Valentine.
I'd love to see a B1 or S35 in 1/16
I’d love to see a Churchill in 1/16 as well!
Oh yes, B1 or S35 :)
Andy, You are really raising the bar getting these kits done, please raise the bar even higher by getting an M113 with a decent interior done in this scale, I am certain it would be a great seller.
i wish there was an m-48 or 60 with a full interior
We love good kits down under and these are up there
Andy, cannot say enough about how I appreciate your working to make these kits available. Can I make a suggestion? I miss the days when I learned what the parts are because THEY WERE LABELED in the instructions. That would be nice. Thank you!
Thank you.
I love this store! Great models and people!
Congrats!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Man love seeing all of this!
You can tell it’s all about armor with Andy.
Excellent, looking forward to the next announcement too.
Always very cool the M10 and the Achilles, you can't go wrong by buying both variants 👍👍
Andy, I love your 1:16 scale kits, but some of us lack either the budget or the display space for them. I guess I'll have to stick to 1:35!
Great update!
Very nice, Andy! You need to get some 1/16 clear display boxes for these kits.
Just put in my pre-order for the British Achilles! Can’t wait to make a start! 😊
Nice kit!
Can't wait for mine to arrive!
I also am extremely happy with your 1/16 /35 scale American figures. Those are super cool to add to my Sherman and eventual m10. Keep them coming and thank you!
WOW!! What a huge and cool kit! If you don't tell my wife, I might buy one of these.
The next German tank should be the jagd Panzer 38 t
I think you have the duck bill weights the wrong way round, the ones on the Achilles are larger and heavier to counter weight the 17pdr gun, also the earlier M10 was devoid of duck bill weights.
Awesome stuff! This Yank will do the British one. 🙂
Thanks….!!! 😃👍👋
Mike starmer paint advice
SCC.15 was formulated by British chemical companies during 1943 for use in the forthcoming operations in NWE to replace the current SCC.2 (brown) then in use. It was not cobbled up from cellulose based US air force paint, the component specifications are completely different for enamel paint on vehicles. Olive Drab No.9 for ground force use and Dark Olive Drab No.41 for the USAAF are different in hue and tone. The air force colour is more green than No.9 and formulated to different specifications.
SCC.15 is an equivalent, NOT match to the American colour. It is a dark yellow-green, noticeably green, compared to the US O/D No.9. My Tamiya mix was formulated against an original BS.987 colour standard. It is not 100% exact since more than three colours is about the most that modellers could manage, but it is near enough on a model.
As for model paint company products, these seem to be using their own ideas or copying another company’s colour idea simply based on the name ‘olive drab’. AK definitely messed up despite my sending a large card sample which I tweaked to be more accurate. The best alternative mix I found yet is Vallejo 70888 and 70294 in equal parts
Long time subscriber very few posts. But here's my tuppence on the paint colour, as in British colours. Check the AK Real Colors, they are very close.
Early British military vehicle should be Khaki No 3 then change to SCC15 Olive Drab 1944ish. I think US vehicles provided to the British would have stayed US Olive Drab No2 until they needed repainting or camo was put on.
The Micky Mouse camo was large black circles not the wavy line green black camo. It's the same in the desert, Middle Stone or a slight change to Portland Stone and let's not forget the Caunter scheme.
Great books for British colours and markings Warpaint Vol 1 - 4 by Dick Taylor. Available from The Tank Museum, Bovington UK.
BTW when will you come to see to only running Tiger 1 in the world Andy? I'm a 'Friend of The Tank Museum' and I'm sure they would make you welcome.
Now, my brother Kevin used to work at the company that made the MODs (Ministry of Defence) paint, he was the colour mixer in charge of mixing the 'dye' to colour the paint. Form the company's range of home paint, a recipe was followed then adjusted visually to match a control shade. Each batch of paint was a very close match to all the other batches. But when the paint was made for the MOD the recipe was followed exactly, with no adjustment for any changes in those recipe elements. Each batch could be and was different in shade. Remember also (basically) all paint starts life as gloss paint and then has something added to make it matt. So the level of matt would also change, I also know soldiers that threw sand/dirt on to wet paint to help matt the paint, and adjust the shade to suit the local area.
As per Dick Taylor the shades of paint varied because of imperfections in producing the paint, changes in ingredients due to lack of supply, (yellow is made from chromium and chromium was needed for other more important uses, especially in Britain) so most batches of paint would vary anyway maybe we shouldn't get so hung up about the shade of our models.
I think the S.C.C.2 Brown was used for soft skin vehicles especially those used in the home country, ambulances, staff cars etc. in the phoney war/early war.
How about a nice AT gun for a towe with the Willy Jeep 1:16.
I'd be interested in seeing a video done for the Snow camouflage and how that's done. Hair spray technique, or all airbrush. Other than that, my only problem will be which one to build. I'll probably do both - IF I can find someone to give it to!
I just wish we had more variety. Something different. Artillery pieces or something badass AND rare. Most of these American tanks look so similar in fact that you just automatically know it's an American tank. However the Battleship turrets are a massive win for me as a naval historian I was thrilled when those came out.
It would be great to see a model in the aeronautical field. A 1/16 jet would be fantastic.
Very nice details Andy, would you consider doing a King Tiger or Jagdtiger in the future?
Hi Andy. What about a M7 Priest in 1/16?
Andy. Seriously looking forward to this Kit (Achilles) but have you thought of selling tracks and wheel sets separately I imagine people would snap them up.
But Takom's models are really great.
I really love the M10 and i really want to buy this model kit but, i hope it assembles better than the tiger one tank. On the tiger one tank the guide horns wont stay attached to the track links and keep breaking off. This is before ive even attached them to the chassis. Also the the track pins are plastic not metal and quite a few of them snapped while i was trying to attach the track links together. Its been a bit frustrating to assemble so far.
The SCC15 is the classic 'British Bronze Green' (I've seen it referred to such in several articles). My thought regarding the SCC2 version is was maybe for the Italian campaign (Operation Husky) - but I couldn't swear to that without a lot of checking.
SCC15 is not Bronze Green. Deep Bronze Green is a post war/Cold War color. No. 3 Khaki Green is an early war color.
It is getting close to Middle Bronze Green but this did not come in until 1945. All vehicles got this new colour for the Berlin Victory Parade In gloss or semi gloss no matt finish in peacetime.
@@Macboy62 This is what I thought - my comment was about the colour not the time period. Mickey Mouse camo was a combination of Khaki and Black. The colour SCC15 appears more Bronze Green than Khaki - to my eye anyway.
@@Claymore5 In that you are correct.
Perhaps they were all painted green so as not to be mistaken for the German, dark yellow.
Umm desert tanks were all yellowish, that's why the British had 3 stripes, Red White Red for recognition.
An M4A2 (early) will sell good all around the world. USMC, GB, France and Commonwealth had it
Yes! I would buy it. Used by Polish forces also. And the Soviets got like two thousand of them.
I think the. Powers that be had more important things to worry about other than what colour a vehicle is! IMHO
Andy, please make a Tiger 1 t-shirt 😊
Any mention of a 1/16 M8 or M20 kits
I would go with Mike Starmers Tamiya paint mix for SCC2. The AMMO color is not even remotely close. I painted a Crusader with the Starmer mix, and it has a distinctive medium brown with a slight ginger tone.. it's an odd color.
What is the mix ratio?
@@MichalKaczorowski
This is the mixture that Mike researched and recommended.
SCC (Standard Camouflage Colours)
2 (Brown)
7 pts XF10 + 2 pts XF1. “This is very close to the standard so a small touch of mid grey is needed for your models.”
@@MichalKaczorowski as always, I would encourage your own research. I don't know if ssc2 is a valid color for the m10 but what I'm saying is AMMOs scc2 is not accurate based on what I have researched whatever you use it on.
''Chelsea'' didn't have any black camo on it from what i can gather...there doesn't seem to any sign of it on the pics of it at the time but some Guards Armoured Division vehicles had it..M10's on the other hand were left in the Olive Drab they were delivered in..i'm no expert tho'
The author of the Osprey book about Achilles claims that there is evidence of worn out black camo on Chelsea. None of the photos in that book have additional camo paint, though some of them seemed to retain their US shipping markings (and were therefore not repainted from US olive drab).
@@evilbobthebob I'll have to get the Osprey book..yes the shipping info on the tank is most likely to be original Olive Drab..i've done a fair bit of research online for a Achilles model i'm building and came across info that Canadian units didn't receive vehicles unit September '44 and some vehicles retained the US tool stowage on the back but with the UK fire extinguishers and first aid box so giving a bit of variety to your model
@@lesgl it's a decent book, thankfully they have an ebook version of you can't find print, though the photos are unfortunately low resolution in it
1/16 Hellcat
Andy……I watched a video stating that Tamyia was to reissue the AMERICAN Armored personnel carrier…the Quad.50…. and the 81mm mortar Half Tracks this past Aug. Have you hea rd anything on this ?
I honestly prefer the M36 Jackson.
Will you be selling the trackpads (and wheels) as separate update sets?
Do you think they’ll make/release any “self propelled artillery” like the m12 m40 in 1/16 ??? 😱😱😱
M10 are SP artillery / tank destroyers. UK use was by Royal Artillery and are NOT tanks.
Im sorry to bring this to your attention but I was gifted an Achilles, at step 7 it appears that parts A & B have been transposed, it may need a bit of adjustment.
I am so impressed you are making these. Especially because it’s American armor.
Have you thought of an M1-a2 Abrams tank? With the use in Iraq and now by the Ukrainians, it probably sell.
I’m saving up for the M10. I look forward to it.
Andy, I have a question for you. What airbrushed you recommend. I am getting back into modeling after years off. I appreciate the help. Thank you.
A bren carrier , 1/16 why not, thx
Sell the suspension sprues and I'm sure a lot of folks with the HVSS Shermans would buy to convert them to VVSS.
And different tracks would be nice, steel type like T74.
1/16 scale nashhorn
When is this kit shipping out?
AK Real Color S.C.C. 15 is more proper color IMO.
Damn it. No Canadian markings!
Me gusta su maqueta desde chile entretenido pero x favor español
I can't believe I just made Ooooh-ing noises over an oil cooler. My Missus gave me a really funny look.
They look fantastic!
My only criticism is the lack of duck bill extended end connectors for the T48 and T51 tracks, just as an option.
Really looking forward to watching your build videos ❤😊
where can one acquire the fcc paint
E.g. AK Real Colors RC037 S.C.C. 15 Olive Drab
It would be real easy to swap the turrets and make a late M-10. Perhaps a future kit.
The Chieftain is probably the guy you want to consult on paint schemes for these and other WWII tanks. If he doesn’t know, he will know who to ask.
(DISCLAIMER. I am not affiliated, just a fan.)
Can these be converted for r/c using current Heng Long r/c guts?
That's my plan ;) Using HL or Taigen lower hull. Biggest challange will be gun elevation and recoil.
Why use existing toys when you can buy all the guts independently in any RC shop.
@@randomnickify because existing lower hulls are more reliable than scratch builded model based on plastic kit.
It's cos we've the BIGGER GUN HA .
Hi Andy, are aware of anyone manufacturing or planning to manufacture 1/16 scale engines for these?
I think Migs version of SCC2 is WAY too light. Mr Paints MRP 346 is much more accurate in my opinion. Also, these vehicles are not tanks, they are tank destroyers/self propelled A/T guns
and in the British Army they were mainly crewed by Royal Artillerymen. Lastly, I don't understand the point of having the suspension arms swiveling, that's not how VVSS suspension works, you really need working bogie springs for it to look correct.
