Circumcision in the US is rooted in religion and outdated practices - Lots of early reasoning behind it was because of the idea that it would make boys less likely to masturbate, which was considered a sin. Over time, as culture relaxed more with religion and sexual behaviors, circumcision was kinda just done for the hell of it, with people trying to come up with reasons to justify it. You may see or hear people talk about complications, reduced STD/UTI risks, etc. But the differences in these cases for those circumcised vs. uncircumcised are statistically insignificant. Some do end up like Curtis, where they have foreskin that is too tight (known as Phimosis), or some may have issues in which the skin retracts too far and won't return to normal (Paraphimosis), resulting in extreme discomfort, and occasionally even tissue death. These cases are still so few and far between that I would argue having de-facto circumcision isn't worth it.
So, in short, we in the US still regularly circumcise... because we always have?
