How Haiti came to the Brink of Collapse

- Haiti transformed from being the richest colony on earth to being the poorest nation in the western hemisphere. This spectacular downfall reached an all-time low in 2010 with a massive earthquake causing widespread destruction, and managed to sink even lower after that. But there IS hope.

whenever I heard about Haiti, I can't stop thinking about that family guy clip where Godzilla trying to attack Haiti but changes his mind after seeing how broke it is
As a businessman in the United States, I would be very reluctant to invest in placing a manufacturing site in a country with this level of corruption.
so what should they do

Anyone who tries to help Haiti eventually receives intense blame and criticism, and NOBODY is happy with the results.
I’m from haiti
Because most of them time they do more damage then good. For example the U.S.A occupation, yes they helped somewhat but they ended up shutting down our governmental institutions , raping our women, & slaughtering many civilians. Overall a mistreatment of the people and a disgrace.

just found this channel...only my second video. i just watched the one about the Netherlands creating land. WoW I'm hooked, just fantastic! keep up the great work
Good videos under rated channel. May the algorithm be with you

Such a good video. I learned so much about the history of Haiti. It's so sad to see how the people of Haiti struggle for such a long time, despite the potential the country has
This video didn't even scratch the surface. You have no idea. LOL
@@johnnymonestime3742I love how everyone leaves out the Middle eastern elite that is bringing horror to the country
It's so sad that Haitians haven't had a break, I've met so many of them and they're so hard working and so friendly, oh and bright
I would sound racist, but Haiti is nation with obvious roots in Africa - same colonial history (colonial powers fault), same corruption and dictators, without any visible hope to recover. But at the same time, with incredible natural wealth (in history mainly agricultural, today also tourist paradise) - just handle it better. Those natural disasters could also be handled to some degree - look at Japan.
Same roots, same problems.
Dont be an idiot , Japan has multiple backing by the US economy
It’s amazing that one leader never arose to be the hero and savior
1.3 million votes for papa doc vs zero votes against him? Hhmmmmm?
How can a country in such a desperate situation be lifted out of it? It seems hopeless. If international aid comes in, corruption swallows a large portion. Then there are the gangs, hurricanes, earthquakes, and other forces that work to keep the country down. What can be done?
Very good question. I don't believe anyone has the answer.
This channel is great.
You can't help people don't help them self, Haitian people come from different part of Africa 🌍 that one of the reasons they don't agree with nothing, they don't get alone with nobody, I just wish my country Dominican republic was far from haiti
It's interesting that even in student union politics Haiti is held to randsom: can remember that in 2010, a welsh student union president had (with the protection of the university) stolen Haiti Earthquake Appeal funds raised from a successful event that was meant to help the Haitians recover from the disaster. That president used the funds to pay the debt of a failed event they set up, with not one penny actually being used for the purposes it was meant. Of course like any other corrupt official, they never faced charges or investigation because they were protected by the university (who themselves were suspected of taking advantage of International Student's finances for their own ends). Looking back a decade later and it's just utterly saddening that there was always a corrupt busybody looking to profit from the continuing disaster of the Haitians - more should've stood up to help 😔
Why doesn't the Dominician Republic across the border have the same problems as Haiti?
Completely different country with a completely history
It Relies on Colonial History between those 2 i suggest learning videos about them
Dominicans were spanish province, got hispanic civilization.. sorrily, France didnt do that with Haiti, they lack that civilizatory structure, hence the struggle to become a stable nation.
Yes, I remember seeing a satellite photo of the two countries some time ago. Haiti was deforested while the Dominician Republic green with many trees. Obviously different governence.@@PH7018c
So from this documentary its clear that this once rich country cannot prosper with its ex slave leaders , corruption is so endemic in hati that it is in a death spiral that looks like it cant be broken at present.
I have just watched your marvellous video on the Dutch reclamation of the land through drainage and dikes (ik moest lachen, in het Engels, dat woord heeft twee betekeningen😂) I lived in Amsterdam for 2 1/2 years and my mother was born over there but I didnt know much about this subject til now and I am sure she doesn't either - so I have sent it to her and I am sure she will find it as fascinating as I did....
As for Haiti, mijn God wat een ramp. It is incredibly depressing.... Nonetheless, these are all fascinating, living, breathing stories which should be told.... I can never understand how a channel like this exists like a shining beacon on a tiny island of intellectual rigour amongst a sea of drek, yet has fewer members and views than such dross as "Americans react to..." and ludicrous conspiracy theory tabloid nonsense...
This channel should have a million plus subscribers and each video be viewed by hundreds of thousands. ..i wish you every success and apologies for my terrible Dutch 😂❤
i just came here from the other video as well! truly fascinating!
God bless Haiti please ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
All the Caribbean islands did suffer the same problems Haiti went thru 200 years ago , and none of them are still blaming theirs past in order to develop their countries. All of them are in much better shape than Haiti, in every sense of the word. In 200 years, the Haitians governments , dictatorships and criminal gangs that rule the country, have not been able to provide the poor Haitian people with a basic ID….

if he said help for haiti he don't know what he said cause the earthquake or violence is everywhere. satan create disaster everywere.
The problem with Haiti is that it is the only country in human history that has been successfully founded by a slave revolt. This is equivalent to building a civilization from scratch. This country is almost destined to endure more suffering than other countries have endured since the beginning of time.

Avg IQ in Haiti is 67 means "Mildly impaired or delayed" maybe this has something to do with how the country looks like and despite all the efforts from different countries and NGO's nothing has changed.
″IQ is the single most important predictor of work success. It’s a very robust and very reliable predictor.” -- John Antonakis, psychologist at University of Lausanne
Many of them are not educated, very few are able to recieve a proper education. Alot of the older generation are very religious and superstitious.
