    Purchased a Bellroy, and gave my Synapse 25 to my son for school....and as nice as it is, it doesn't beat my tom bihn because of the organization on the outside of the bag. When I saw the synik 22, I WAS SOLD! Right size, clamshell opening, laptop access and my beloved pockets on the outside! Well worth it, and a treat for me. Maybe add a "secret pocket" in the back or on the strap.

    Bought a Synapse 19 about a year ago. Absolutely love it, except I should’ve gone with the 25. Now I wish I knew to wait for this guy.

    At a first glance it looks like a normal bag, but when you start seeing the thoughtful features and functions that it has, all done in a very innovative way to maximize utility and space, its nothing short of amazing. In fact, if you are like me, someone who travels a lot, you will most certainly appreciate this bag. I spent hours upon hours looking for certain features that make my life easy going through airports and only this bag has all of them... here are a few to name:
    1- pass through sleeve to attach to luggage handle
    2- Horizontal and vertical zipper front pockets to slide passport, boarding pass, phone, watch in and out at various points quickly. A lot of backpacks have those round front pockets which when you open you feel that stuff will fall off not to mention a hassle to open and close as you have to go half circle
    3- A dedicated side access to the laptop so you can pull it in and out for security check or for general use at anytime (not a fan of TSA bags as they aren't acceptable in many international airports not to mention it is a setup to that makes poor use of space)
    4- lightweight and reasonable dimensions to fit under the seat
    5- has one roomy compartment without too many dividers to allow stuffing whatever I can't put in my carryon or checked luggage, or for use with packing cubes. Having this, while at the same time having enough organizers on the front rather than in the main compartment is very practical.
    and obviously the bag is packed full of features beside those, but i was glad to find all of those in one backpack as I have found in my search that most backpacks have some but not all those requirements I was looking for..
    The only downside to this one is that its aesthetics...its not the best looking backpack....but happy to give that up for all of the above and for the quality construction and material this bag has.

      I like The North Face Surge better because it has 2 side bottle pockets. That way, you don't have to take up space inside for the water bottle. Simple, practical. So simple that it's over Mr. Bihn's head.

    I waited hoping it would fit the 15 inch MacBook Pro. Love it with the luggage roller but that is a deal breaker. The Synik 30 is too tall at 20 inches. I really wanted something for international travel as the personal item that would also fit my frame. I will continue to use my other 16-18 inch height backpacks that fit my 15 inch MacBook Pro.

    • @tombihn
      @tombihn  5 років тому +4

      Noted. For the particular design of the Synapse, the 20" length is necessary for it to be able to fit 15" laptops. I'll share your feedback w/Tom and Nik; perhaps a future backpack design (nothing in the works now, though) will offer a compartment for bigger laptops w/a less long back panel.

      Second (third, fourth) the 15 inch MBP in the smaller bag. I wanted the new Luminary to do it, also. Honestly, the whole laptop side pocket twist and turn is a no-go for me. I prefer the GORUCK GR1 way of handling a laptop, especially near the same price.

    Heyy, will a 14" macbook pro fit? I saw that 15" and up are not really good for it but wasn't sure if it applied for a 14" as well. The Synik 30 is just a little too big

    Can 16 inch macbook pro fit into its main compartment? Synik 30 is too big for daily carry:-(

    • @tombihn
      @tombihn  5 років тому +2

      Sorry: we don't recommend fitting a 16" MBP in the main compartment of the Synik 22. It's just big enough that the laptop could put pressure on the corners of the main compartment zipper of the Synik, which could cause it to fail prematurely. That you want a smaller pack that's big enough for a 16" MBP is duly noted! Will share this w/Tom and Nik.

    Hi there are the dimensions of the Synik 22 slightly larger than the Synapse 19? I'm more concerned about the height because I feel the 19 is a tad too small/short so I was hoping the 22 would be a good middle ground for me as an edc between the 19 and 25 :).

    • @tombihn
      @tombihn  5 років тому +3

      The 22 and 19 are basically the same size except for the depth: that extra 3 liters in the 22 all goes to depth of the bag. So, if you felt the 19 was a tad too short in length for your torso, you're likely to feel the same about the 22. If you felt the 19 was just a little too small to fit all of your stuff/ended up feeling overpacked, the 22 might be perfect. Hope that helps a bit!

      TOM BIHN looks like each compartment doesn’t take up the others, like most bags seem to due, reducing the actual amount you can pack.
