Great video and I may have passed you from the other direction. I appreciate that you mentioned the stretch between Pilot Grove and Sedalia being arduous. I bonked really hard in Pilot Grove trying to make a push. I started at Arrowhead Stadium via the Rock Island Trail. That stretch is really sparse of water spots and any gas stations or stores to refuel. I think that getting a solid meal in at either town before making the trek is a wise move. It's a long 20 or 25. Great work and I'm headed back to do it again in a couple of weeks.
Very cool. That's probably going to be my next Katy goal--KC to STL. I haven't talked to anyone who has gone from KC to Pleasant Hill. I didn't know it's sparse, that's good info. Good luck on your next trek! What are you planning to do for it?
It was so very good. We did look like total lushes on day one, but it was mainly because we knew the next 2.5 days was going to be pretty desolate. I do love the East end of the trail. Much fun can be had there while also taking in some good scenery and burning a few calories also!
Great Video.. I am thinking of doing trail in 2 weeks.. west to east.. Volunteer Park is on my list.. What are the best free camp spots.. Here you went East to West.. Is there much of a difference ? Thanks.. Your Videos have been Helpful.. :)
Hi Billy! I prefer to go East to West just because there are more things to do on the East side of the trail--breweries, wineries, etc. I'm much more likely to stop and enjoy those things at the beginning of my multi day trip. By the end I'm usually just eager to get it over with and would skip those things. And they can make it a lot of fun! Also, I live in St. Louis, so it's slightly advantageous to start near home in case you forget anything, have a bike issue, etc. It's easier to pull the plug when a ride (or a delivery of a needed supply) is just a phone call & an hour away. Volunteer Park in Hartsburg is good. I will say when we set up our tents there, we set them right next to the caboose, seeking shade in its shadow and thinking the caboose was part of the park. As we were setting up, a crabby man came out of the caboose and cursed at us, saying we were on his property. We apologized and moved closer to the gazebo and he muttered something like "stupid cyclists think you own everything". Everyone else in the town we met was so nice, and some people in the bar were like "did you meet the artist who lives in the caboose--isn't he so nice?" and we were like "uhh...yeah". So who knows, maybe we just caught him on a bad day. But the moral of the story is don't put your tent too close to the caboose because it's not the park! Be happy to answer any other questions you might have. Hope you have a great trip!
I love the Katy ❤🎉

@@dherholz Awesome 👏😎.. Thank You.. are you on Instagram?
No
Just curious, how did you get back?
Got a pick up from my buddy's son. If it wasn't for that...we probably would have ended in Sedalia and take the Amtrak back.
