    As a new player, I was just watching a video on what "manipulating the BGS" was and I joined the dots with the new ships released in 2024, Powerplay (2.0) changes and Colonization, so your video is timely and a great confirmation.
    With seemingly a 20LY gap requirement for a faction to jump to a new system, it makes sense why the Brewer CG for planet data requires scan data for systems at least 20LY ouside the system where Trailblazer Echo sits and the bubble.

    • @RealPigeon
      @RealPigeon 5 днів тому +2

      20LY is also the threshold for being able to sell cartographic data at all. Universal Cartographics in Sol wouldn't accept data from Barnard's Star since it is too close to Sol, but if you go down to Achenar, they would take the data from Barnard's Star there because it's outside 20LY.

    I definitely would like to become a system architect. For at least one system. • @exi1ed0ne
      @exi1ed0ne 4 дні тому

      They should have started at one of the distant outposts or Colonia and regulated growth (player interest) with what you need to do to get a permit. The vast majority of the map is just empty, and building out a second bubble in the hinterlands would not only give pockets of humanity to visit, but also get pilots away from the overly well trod paths. Finding a system within 10ly of the human bubble that has not been already mapped and interesting enough to sink a good quantity of effort into is going to be difficult. Nobody wants to found a system with every body claimed by other players.

    7:25 Here's another idea for a hauling vessel: something like a Type-5 (but can ofc be a different manufacturer) which does to the Type-6 what the Type-8 did to the Type-7.
    But before I explain how I imagine a hypothetical Type-5 to be, let me explain shortly something about the game:
    When you look at the available combat and trade ship, put together with the security for traders by law enforcement, you have a plot hole.
    You have a galaxy which is
    1. relatively dangerous
    2. help needs quite a bit of time to arrive, easily enough to loose a noticeable amount of cargo (if the pirate just send hatchbreaker limpets which ignores shields)
    3. a lot of heavily armed ships which may or may not be friendly
    If you compare that to real life, this doesn't make any sense. Every time pirates became a noticeable problem trade ships armed themselves appropriately to a point where during the golden age of piracy, at least when it comes to equipment. Pirates were just more used to combat and because of that more effective at it (on average). Even today these big ships get "armed" more again (not with actual weapons because of legislation, but with for example water cannons which shoot water mixed with pepper spray) because pirates start to become a bit more of a problem again compare to two decades ago.
    This situation is illogical, but it seems like FDev has noticed that at least a bit.
    When it comes to big ships, you have the Cutter and the Type-9 (even if the Cutter is technically a multi-purpose ships, but before the Type-10 the Type-9 had one less size 8 optional while the Cutter had the same internals as today) where the Cutter has a similar amount of possible cargo while being considerably more tanky and faster.
    When it comes to medium ships, you have the Type-8 which at the very least isn't doesn't explode when you look at it wrong, but can take enough hits to run away which it very much can with over 470 m/s boost speed with full cargo racks (ofc engineered). Sure, full blown combat ships will still be faster (a random Meta-FDL build I pulled from the web has a boost speed of around 550 m/s), but you very much have a chance (unlike with e.g. the Type-7 which a way worse shield multiplier (seriously, experiment on e.g. edsy with it a bit) and is with less cargo and about 50 m/s slower speed, worse handling and less hard points (put some mines with effects which targets shield or engines into them; you would be surprised how many people won't expect them and will then be salty because their engines are rebooting, or the shield are down and they need to get back to a station, or it just slows them down because they need to evade them)).
    So, what would a hypothetical Type-5 need to be able to do? Well, it's a small ship so it can't take a hit from at least medium ships, so it needs to be able to run away. So it need at least 100 m/s more speed with full cargo racks (while you shouldn't underestimate the speed small combat can go, it's a shame how close the small and medium ones actually are to a point where hitting the right spot will come down the tens of m/s). Essentially you become a blockade runner. And from a cargo pov, well, FDev said the Cobra MkV will not be the best small cargo ship. That's currently not the case, except if the "will" includes not yet released ones. So a bit more cargo than the Cobra Mk5 it is. And then combine this with one to two small hardpoints placed to well drop mines behind you. While medium combat ships would certainly be able to keep up long enough to kill or stop it, they won't have an easy time which would encourage of small (and faster) ships. While these would struggle with the Type-8 (because of tankiness). That would also mean that you won't have ships which are great at dealing with most things which imo is currently kinda lacking.
    And this ship would funnily enough also fit a niche which isn't taken by any ship in-game a small and fast cargo ship.
    Now some people will say "just play Solo". To these I say: Open is these days mostly dead because the current game design quite frankly discourages open play. I originally started playing the game before engineers were a thing (or planetary landings) and the release of them were imo a big less for open play for two reasons: imbalance and the capability difference between a combat and a non-combat ship. The first one was over time changed (there was some really broken stuff like no resistance hard or soft cap; yes, you were able to get to about 100% resistance in all thermal, kinetic AND explosive). The latter is still the case to a point where I in general wouldn't recommend anyone to play open (or in one of the huge private groups) if you aren't in a combat ship (or one which can take enough hits). Sure, it was always big, but engineers made it extreme. (Who remembers that one asshole who managed to get into GalNet (on 08 APR 3302) because they took their full combat built Federal Corvette (again, pre-engineering, or Colonia, or guardian modules) to Sagittarius A* purely to kill explorers? I don't know anymore what happened afterwards, but I think others did the same trip to kill them to make them stop. If I remember correctly there even was an outcry to ban them from open by a big part of the community but I have no idea if FDev did something about it. But well, back then the community in general saw ganking considerably worse than it does know and made at least some effort of making open a nice experience for most people which as I noticed after coming back isn't the case anymore.)
    This ship design is at least something which doesn't discourage open play.

    I am sure that it will get quite long time to colonise a system. I am expecting to expand into empty left side of the bubble first. Naming space stations with personal important and meaningful names is mostly attracting me. Especially with rich planet rings full of materials to support economy will influence the bubble more than ever for sure. Every player will have their own "castle" systems and every player should have a freedom to issue permit or building allies/enemy systems with other players just like a nation. Custom building space stations with cosmetics would step up this game. And I am dreaming about building cities in earth like worlds in the future.

    I really hope we see PMF creation come back with this update. It would be a no brainer to be able to colonize a system while also making it the home system of a PMF. Tie PMF creation into a squadron and you have a pretty easy way to make sure PMF creation doesn't spiral out of control. And I hope all of this can happen within the game and not outside the game on FDev's website.

      Not base building per se, but definitely base placement - as the 'architect' you will get to decide what type of bases your system supports, and where they are on the planet, and by extension what type of economical mix your system supports.
      FDEV haven't said that there will be any direct monetary benefit after that - but having the ability of have a home base system with the mix of economies that you and your team needs has to be beneficial.

    For me, colonisation is a mechanism that will be empty in a short time. It will take a lot of work to gather the materials needed for the construction of the space station. And being a space truck driver is pretty boring, at least for most players.
    I think it's a mechanic that I know most players will get bored of very quickly.
    I think that before this mechanic they should have put other promised and/or more interesting mechanics like Thargoids in the flesh, ship interiors, ship boarding, EVA, etc.
    I don't think I will do the colonisation as I see it as a very repetitive mechanic and for small groups or a single player it will be an almost impossible task.

    Im really happy you explained the mechanics of the game. Especially the reasoning the new features are connected to the BGS and Powerplay.
    This is Why Open Only is important. And until they balance the game around the players so they can defend themselves against those actions from other players. All of it falls short. They can continue to add anything and everything to the game they want. However, unless its balanced and PVP is given meaning around it. Griefing will continue to exist. And Fdev will continue to lose players because of it.
    4 years prior shows Solo and Private working as it does had no positive influence on the game, community or financials. Solo and Private generated no player retention. Infact we lost more players than ever.
    They desperately need to balance the game with addition to these features. Or else its useless and falls off over time.

    • @kofeyh
      @kofeyh 5 днів тому +4

      They should do these things but likely won't. We already have a solution, PG and SOLO and CMDRs not interested in engaging in PVP can (and imho should) opt out to either, as this ensures those in open genuinely want to be there and are up for a scrap if the opportunity arises. It seems to me that a lot of the issue is people who should not be in open, being in open and then immediately being offended by being in open.
      Open only is a dead duck and will just not ever be a thing. Frontier have tried. Repeatedly. It's not a thing, friend. Best for everyone to move on and just embrace what is, knowing that some of the game is just immutable and will not change.
      Lastly solo/ open did not kill the game, friend, Frontier's lack of focus, funding and partial abandonment did. There are more people playing now because the developer is more engaged, it has nothing to do with the mode one chooses to play in.

    • @That90sKid
      @That90sKid 5 днів тому +1

      @kofeyh I keep getting this same answer. Even from people who worked against it in the past. "They Should, but they wont."
      Solo and PG killed the game. We had 0 player retention in the past 4 years. If it really worked like it should we should have gained players. Not lost them. Group play is dead because of single players having every aspect of the game. This is MMO based on territory control. People should never have the option to not be defended against while attacking other people's territory they work for.
      History of the game, statistics and all the players leaving because of that. Shows you're wrong about that part.
      I mean fdev almost closed their doors. Because they went with the solo players and basically shunned the player groups before the content drought. They lost a majority of their players 6 months after the fleet carrier rework. Before the content drought even started. Then the DLC was released that was made and built to support group play activity. And they STILL LOST PLAYERS. So yes Solo and single player feedback has killed elite dangerous momentum, group play and player retention.

    • @Interdimensional27
      @Interdimensional27 4 дні тому +1

      @@That90sKid I'm not going to argue perspective, because that is different for everyone. But the fact is, a lack of investment and using Elite as a funding vehicle, is what caused elite to see massive player loss. If it was just a mode thing, Frontier returning investment into the game would have had no measurable difference.
      SC has no split modes, and I'd encourage that for PVP, honestly, as nobody has any choice and must be part of it. The game is also being centered around players far more than elite.
      The stats don't really reflect split modes being an issue. It's also asking Frontier to put the genie back in the bottle. Like any other game, stale content and a lack of vision and investment will kill a game far more than really any other cause (yes, split modes is an issue, but it's way further down the ladder). There is ample example of this.

    If Trailblazers only offers the same starport options we are already used to and if the distances to establish new colonies are a fraction of the distance a fleet carrier can jump in one go it will limit how many players will engage with this gameplay loop. I might be completely wrong and maybe most players are just so bored at this point that they will engage with anything new.

  • @zeazevedo
    @zeazevedo 5 днів тому

    There is still much to be explained regarding colonisation, which, with merely three weeks until launch, seems to me a poor strategy on FDev’s part-especially for an update of this magnitude in the game.
    This makes it very complicated for players, and particularly for the PMF, to organise and plan anything related to the update. For example, since the colonised systems will comply with the existing rules of the PP, what happens if the system I colonise is conquered by a PP faction that is rival to mine? Will I then be considered hostile within my own system?
    This kind of information concerning the practical aspects of colonisation should have already been made available, as our expansion planning depends on it.
    For these reasons, I will wait to see and learn how colonisation will actually work before deciding on my course of action.
