I used dried catapa leaves to condition my bettas water.. Also if your betta was newly purchased it is always better to quarantine the fist for 4-5 days in a special tank or container with dechlorinated water and some treatment like anti-ich and anti fungal to prevent any disease from the previous place.. Also if theres any anti-stress for fishes in your area, i definitely suggest to use that also in your quarantine tank and your main tank..
No, it would be stressful to keep males together long term and they likely would become aggressive towards each other. You can however keep a group of female bettas.
