The current definition of a continent combines geology with political science, which is crazy. So under this logic, if North America becomes one govt, now it’s an island, not a continent. Another fallible logic is saying that oceanic crust has to separate continental crust in order for a continent to be considered as such. But oceans shift, land rises, and your definitions will always be changing. So you found continental crust under water. Big deal. One of the crucial elements in even defining a continent is that is must be surrounded by water. If your continental crust is under water, IT IS NO LONGER A CONTINENT. And even if it was above water at some point…you can’t say it was a continent, it could have just been an “island,” right? 😂 It’s pretty sad that our scientific community is actually divided on what determines a continent. It should, however, be completely and exclusively geological.
Many, if not all continents & sub-continents separating & breaking away from the theorized OG Pangean (Gowanda + Laurasia), Super-Continent seem triangular in shape (17:00 until 18:30), at least in my perspective.
Nope. Unless it emerges as a land mass, not submerged under water, it is still an island. No matter what is claimed or name to label it. If by that definition, many island countries out there can start claiming the same. Even continents can claim larger than is.
The professor mentioned at 27:01 is not based at the University of Victoria in Wellinton, NZ but at the University of Victoria in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada.
I was taught in the seventies while living and schooling in Australia that Australia was either the smallest continent or the largest island. I've always kept that as rule of thumb.
I have to say, I was brought up to believe that the Americas were one continent but that was when I was at school over sixty years ago. People still think Australia is a continent and that is absolutely incorrect. That puts all the southern islands and New Zealand out in the cold with nowhere to go.
Hey, IF and a BIG IF we get a massive earthquake on April 8th 2024, we may get some more real estate around New Zealand, but I won't hold my breath on it.
This fails to recognise that the North Island of NZ sits on the Australian plate and the south Island sits across the Australian and pacific plate . The pacific plate is subducting under the Australian plate . So it is 2 plates not 1 continent. Also look into the wallace line . This presentation is misleading
I don't know if anyone has pointed it out but, you spelled New Zealand wrong on the map at the start of the video. you spelled it New Zeland not, New Zealand.
Alright so there’s not truly 7 by those definitions there including Europe and Asia as separate continents but by the 3 definitions they are Eurasia and Zealandia would be the 7th continent
Iceland is not part of Europe, it's part of the Atlantic mid ocean ridge and is not even connected to the European continental shelf. Learn your geology and geography.
I don’t know about others but New Zealand has never been a hidden continent. New Zealand aka Zealandia has always been around it’s just been under water for many many years and people are only just realising this now. I’m not sure about others New Zealanders but I’m pretty sure majority of us knew there was more than what’s actually there. And if you look at some maps depending on what you are looking at you can actually see that there’s more to New Zealand than a lot of people realise.
everyone's always told me that nz is part of Oceania and there's also the people that say that Australia is Oceania but Australia in a country not the continent

Its called AOTEAROA not new zealand.but te riu a maui is a awesome name aswell.all my life being a native here ive never heard of that name in our whakapapa before.
Did NZ have a earth Quake in 1938? Where Napier airport is that land use to be under the sea. Kiakoura was hit by an earthquake which triggered out from the sea and land lifted up. If the hidden continent lifts up will we be connected to Australia.

Nope. Unless it emerges as a land mass, not submerged under water, it is still an island. No matter what is claimed or name to label it. If by that definition, many island countries out there can start claiming the same. Even continents can claim larger than is.
Great video thanks
Maybe it's because of the great flood as to what was written in the Bible.. That makes some parts of the land submerge
😂😂😂😂😂
Do you mean the great MYTH?😂
If anything Europe is a peninsula....we know why they made it a continent
Really love the video images
The professor mentioned at 27:01 is not based at the University of Victoria in Wellinton, NZ but at the University of Victoria in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada.
I was taught in the seventies while living and schooling in Australia that Australia was either the smallest continent or the largest island. I've always kept that as rule of thumb.
New Zealand once had a giant eagle called “Haast’s eagle”
I have to say, I was brought up to believe that the Americas were one continent but that was when I was at school over sixty years ago. People still think Australia is a continent and that is absolutely incorrect. That puts all the southern islands and New Zealand out in the cold with nowhere to go.
Hey, IF and a BIG IF we get a massive earthquake on April 8th 2024, we may get some more real estate around New Zealand, but I won't hold my breath on it.
Depends what side you’re on. West coast will sink
I hope not. My income return is due on the 8th 🤣
I'm laughing but this is terrible, Christchurch barely recovered and besides our government that is money hungry will tourist trap people with it...
That happens when a computer has to speak .
@@Accelle-kx8yh say again?
Alright so there’s not truly 7 by those definitions there including Europe and Asia as separate continents but by the 3 definitions they are Eurasia and Zealandia would be the 7th continent
Planet x could be the factor winner
Please check your facts Tasmania is classed and recognized as part of Australia not as you indicated.
You know who knew the right answer to how many continents there are first........us new Zealanders 😂
WTF IS THE ELEPHANT BIRD??????!!!!!!!!
As a new Zealander I can confirm we are a figment of your imagination
The ONLY important thing to know is that when the other Continents are drowned AGAIN...
Oceania will be the ONLY one that rises, with the survivors.
Im from there, we arent mysterious, were just another small country
As a kiwi myself, the amount of maps I've seen without NZ is just plain stupid
Here because of Vegapunk from One Piece
You got Australia and Antarctica wrong on the map (even the colours were wrong on the key)
As a Kiwi, stop telling people where the hell we are!!
I live in New Zealand at 1:57 you called it a elephant bird it’s not called that 😊in New Zealand it called a moa
😂
Oh good. You guys found the crab peoples home. Ill just check that off my 2024 list.

Papaka
This may help find Atlantic’s, la mu, and all the ones that adiantum history speaks of lost civilizations
This is interesting, am from one of the micronesian islands
Wait so nz (new Zealand) has been unknown 💀💀
everyone's always told me that nz is part of Oceania and there's also the people that say that Australia is Oceania but Australia in a country not the continent
What really makes me angry (and I should think all kiwis too) is so often I find New Zealand MISSING off maps of the world.
Fellow kiwi here. Yes, I exist. 😂😂
This is not the history of "Te Ika a Maui" I was educated with.
The narratives are a thesis I can not relate to.
What I do know, is I am a native maori, a proud New Zealander 🇳🇿 ❤
0:39 Who drew this? It only vaguely looks like NZ and the name is spelled wrong
That's New Zealand!😂 I live Here! It's not hidden!😂
I think NZ ought to claim the contenental shelf as ours to keep chinese fishing boats away
I didnt know no one knew we were in new zealand....
Elephant bird? Bro, it's called a Moa...
So why arnt we checking what minerals
They are,big time..i live in northland, exploration permits all around my land, and, there are unique geological anomalies...such as,a different sort of limestone, that forms on the coast(stalicmites ,stalictites too!)...ancient fossilised kauri forests under the sea...massive hexagonal basalt columns..like discovering ancient greek columns...all sorts!!,well,i DO live in an extremely diverse country...and,in the top of nth isl.....te tai tokerau
nice video
I don’t understand a lot of any of this, but I do get one thing, this,…why is our flora & fauna unlike anything of New Zealand’s and more like New Guinea?
Its called AOTEAROA not new zealand.but te riu a maui is a awesome name aswell.all my life being a native here ive never heard of that name in our whakapapa before.
That's because it was just made up in 2019 by GNS asking Auckland uni professor Henare to create a new name
Why are you using AI voice for the commentary? Please make human commenntary. 🥺
Does it really matter?🤔
Did NZ have a earth Quake in 1938? Where Napier airport is that land use to be under the sea. Kiakoura was hit by an earthquake which triggered out from the sea and land lifted up. If the hidden continent lifts up will we be connected to Australia.
I'm always interested in the information presented in these videos however the ai voices bore me to the point of putting me to sleep
it's not a elephant bird it's a moa
I told my teacher that when I was in school and she sent me to the office for “disrupting the classroom” take that Ms.Fairburn my 13 year old self was right all along there’s 8 continents not 7 stupid American school systems and now that I’m 21 I think there’s probably 10 continents now so don’t try to say im wrong because no one knows 🙂↔️ I asked myself “how did life start” and the other day I got my answer I wanted to know how the first living thing came about and it came by a water bugs eating algae or plankton or whatever that stuff is then I asked myself well how did grass form if earth was just a big v rock of volcanos and I got my answer water pushed algae or plankton whatever it is moss or something onto a rock and those same tiny water bug things help the grass grow I still don’t understand how the earth formed so I have been very curious I’m just simplifying it don’t take my answer as a legitimate answer find your own maybe your answer different from mine let’s figure it out together I have a lot of more questions I want answers to and only god has the answer so far so hopefully he gives me the answers through someone with a brain 👌🏽
Mountains were originally Trees😉..start there✨
WRONG!! granite crust could not have originated from a previously molten condition, and no lab has ever been able to replicate granite from a molten state
Also newzealand lost some land during the drft
We are not the 8th continent. We are part of the Australasian Continent along with the Pacific Islands.
Left out Spongebob from the narrations.
Hey man videos are nice but the ai voice is killing your channel
I’m sorry, but that thumbnail is not a hidden continent, but simply New Zealand.
Yeah, when Kiwis fly 😄
We Fly. Just like anyone else in the world.
@@davidharrison6535 Shouldn't be allowed to
@@davidharrison6535 He might be talking about the actual bird lol

My sky New Zealand. 💯
Why are you saying that there's no volcanic activity when there certainly is. Even recently. So if anything New Zealand is growing.
All Australians are originally from the 10th continent Papua New Guinea peace.
