Update: In October, the KSL Investigators reported on a concrete contractor that had been accused of taking money from customers, but then not completing jobs. Since then, more frustrated customers have come forward, and now, the state has revoked the contractor’s license.
This has become a common problem! People should share who they have worked with and if they honored their contracts or not. It's been so hard to get anyone to start work in a reasonable time frame. If they are eager to take your money and start a job right away you should be apprehensive.
This happened to my parents , they gave 2 grand and the dude blocked their number. We have them on camera exchanging the cash and also his license printed out and his plates and address. We are serving him today with papers.
People need to stop price shopping! If your searching for the absolute cheapest guy you can find and If your getting your contractor from Craigslist then your asking for trouble most the time. If they don’t have a website or ANY online reviews that should be a red flag. Any reputable company will have one these days. Ask for references and CALL THEM! Ask how the job went. A good contractor will LOVE that you called his references, we love when people brag about us! 😎
Hi, From NYC... I am having similar issue, but mine is bathroom renovation. I asked contractor to do the job and they said will finish within 2-3 weeks but been over 6 weeks and still continuing the job. Wall tiles are not level... so the shower glass doesn't align with the wall 90degree... so I had to help the guy to install the shower glass and glass shattered on my both hands. I got many cuts and 3 stitches on my left elbow. I couldn't work for a few days. I am graphic designer so i need my both hands to work. Also tiles are not slope so the water goes everywhere, had to redo 4times... So yesterday i told them to redo tiles and have to redo the wall... they decline and want to terminate the project... i told them i am not agree or signed any paper without my attorney. The contractor company name is Novu Designs LLC.
Haha. A guy we recently hired in Spanish Fork did the same thing. The guy’s name is TJ Wilkinson. We have reported him to DOPL, and he got a huge fine along with a police report. Now he’s playing the victim by trying to blame my husband and I for putting him in a bad situation, which is funny because we gave him $1500 to start the work, and he never came by. It was constantly excuse after excuse. Once we decided to let him go and find someone else, he threw a fit and started threatening on reporting us. We kept asking him for a contract along with a license, and he kept beating around the bush. After reporting him, we found out he wasn’t licensed. We gave him a date to return our items and money otherwise he’ll go to small claims. He is two days away from the due date, and he still hasn’t given our stuff back. The man is an idiot. We try to communicate and give him notices, but he doesn’t take it seriously until he gets in trouble. I have no sympathy for the man. He did it to himself.

What if you insisted on buying your own materials and paid for each DAY?
I going through that and feel like he stole 55 thousand dollars and now is not returning calls.
