That was funny. The chap on the left described a failed tackle on Jonah Lomu as 'bad defence'. Classic.
He speak's as if he know's what he is talking about - bad tackle or not he has no idea what it was like for those players when it came time to tackle Jonah on the rampage.
Lol
There was no way to defend against that moster R.I.P the goat of the rugby world
I attended a test match at Durban,AB vs Springboks with seats low down close to the field..Lomu got the ball in space with Percy Montgomery the Bok's fullback to beat. Montgomery hurled himself at the giant who lost balance and passed to Josh Kronveldt to score..I honestly thought Montgomery could have got killed. Sitting close up and hearing the gasp of the crowd was so visceral and Montgomery so brave.
Dude I honest to God just paused right at the same moment cause I couldnt take it anymore LOL Bad tackle on Johno????? WTF and this coming from a springbok supporter. I really think they need to dive a bit deeper into how much faster passed and continues the game is vs NFL. Also modern backline players are monsters.
Yep you guys need to remember that Rugby players play 40 minute halves pretty much non stop. No stop start with downs and everyone attacks and defends no defend team and an attack team within the team.
I feel like that’s what makes both sports unique. The fact that you can specialize is a huge advantage it’s more like human chess
Also almost all of the rugby tackles were slow mo and they didnt see the full effect.
And also alot of rugby players could have run in the olympics if they decided to go that way instead
I'm an Aussie, watched NFL since I was 12 and played 1 year when I was in my 20's, played R.League for a couple years in school - NFL is a collision sport but none of them can go non-stop, R.League has better all-round athletes.

One of the most ridiculous statements I’ve heard (and so often) is that rugby players don’t hit as hard because they’re not wearing pads. This is utter nonsense. Sportsmen (all sportsmen and particularly those at a high level) are competitive. When you’re in competition and the testosterone and the adrenaline are pumping, your focus is to win at all costs. You don’t think about ‘being careful’. There’s no time to reflect and consider ‘options’ in the mitigation of getting hurt.
Ikr. Hilarious.
@@BigStib
What’s “hilarious”?
@@BlueShadow777 i think he means hilarious as in, its funny that they think that... incase you didn't know it means funny (if that's what u mean)
Yeah, if you pussyfoot around, that's when you get hurt. Practice. Get your technique right and commit. The only way to play.
Jonah Lomu is a rugby player to check out. Played on the wing for Nee Zealand, was 6.4’ height, weighed 265lb and could run the 100 meters in 10.7 seconds. Also could step around players. His best step though was called the Māori side step (straight forward, over the top of you)
NFL is like chess with big pieces.. Rugby doesn't have the input of the coaches for EVERY play and they play the whole 80 minutes doing defense and attack
"That's just bad defence there" Haha there was no defence against Jonah Lomu. 1.96m, 120kg, 100m in 10.7 sec - whatever that translates to American. Big man who could outrun everyone and regularly bounced multiple players off on his way to score. There's clips of him ramming through 7 guys in a single run and still scoring.
This guy was looking for any reason to down rugby
Basically his example of the 40yrd in 5 seconds, that’s an average of anout 7.31 meters per second which is 16.35 mph, Lomu running 100m in 10.7s is 9.35 mps and 21 mph. Now this isn’t taking into account acceleration at a low or high end unfortunately but Lomu’s predicted 40yrd dash was just under 4.5 seconds, which is INSANE
Bad defending against the great Jonah Lomu 5 or 6 big guys couldnt take the man down he was a beast and super quick at that. Sorely missed RIP.
And how can he says “bad tackle” when in NFL you just have to make an impact with your shoulder
Lomu was one of the GOAT's, no two ways about it.
But...there's always a "but"... I would just like to point out, that as amazing as he was...he never scored a single try against the Springboks.
You realise we have 6'5 240+ pound guys running around that can run pretty bloody fast.. not all but a few would get close and around 5 sec 40yard marks. We also play 80min and need elite stamina so we can afford to sit in the gym all day and for a 5 sec effort when we need to put in efforts for the entire game.
Jonah Lomus predicted 40yrd was just under 4.5s. At the time he weighed 120kg (264lbs) and was 6ft5in
@@alexwheelhouse4530 I don't do yards but Luma could compete in the 100m sprint at International level, if not mid/low tier Olympic speeds when he was alive. RIP to the GOAT of rugby.
When I worked in Singapore for an American company we took the guys to a Rugby match with Australia playing and they were shocked and said tv does not do it justice they loved it and went several times to different games.
Average size of a rugby player in 2018 was 6ft 1in, 105kgs (231lbs). (Based on size of pro players in league at time)
At the 2019 World Cup, the average max speed of the back three (agile/running style players) was 9.15metres a second. The top speed recorded was 10.59m a second (23.68mph).
By comparison, Usain Bolt set the world record @ 12.4metres/sec.
Final useless stat, a Rugby player in a pro team, averages about 6kilometres (3.7mi) running per game.
Well guys, I got through half the video and then gave up on Phezz. Really no point doing a comparison video when you've already made up your mind. (Half expected at any moment for him to pop up & sing America The Beautiful)
I watch what little NFL we get in Oz on FTA (plus YT has 15 min highlight videos of each match), and *always* take the day off to watch the Superbowl (starts about 10am on a Monday here).
Three very different games (gridiron/league/union), but I like them all (plus AFL), and can appreciate the different requirements to play them.
I gave up on Phezz months ago , i wish Miles would do these reactions solo !!!
G'day boys, if you think NFL hit hard with padding and helmet don't ever take on a Aussie footballer they have take hard hits from the first day of school without protection on all sports grounds,
Including the under 15s
Shut up panzy Aussie rules isn’t in the same league as rugby as far as hits😂
Aussie rules can’t even tackle correctly they stand up right and hug each other
@@motorbikesnbeers good one!
I would say that NFL players are bigger on average and may even be faster overall but as to endurance/fitness, rugby players would be way fitter. For a start, a rugby game runs non-stop for two 40 minute halves. On average, an NFL player runs around 1 mile per game. An average rugby player covers around 6 miles per game.
AFL players are probably more fit than both. They run non stop on a much bigger field
@@krpurple2678 afl sucks most stupidest sport I've ever watched may aswell play soccer

No comparison. Take off the padding and helmets and lets see how the NFL boys go.
Went to america with my club and played against a grassroots American football club at both, we never actually finished the rugby game because their whole team was either rolling around on the floor or blowing out of their arses after 5 minutes 😂
Jonah Lomu 👆🙏 ran 100m in 10.6 seconds with an under 4.5s estimated 40yrd. He was 6’5 264lbs. And that was back before rugby became professional and before they had massive state of the art training facilities and nutrition plans. Any nfl player today to come against him would be flattened
...like a pancake.
The man did not run a 40 in 4.5 seconds💀 forever great. Most definitely not the world record holder of the 40yrd dash though. Bo Jackson ran a 4.13 being the fastest recorded time for the 40. And Jonah Lomu ran an estimated 4.24-4.30. Might wanna research it man😬@Alex Wheelhouse
@@esaiapasay6760 hang on, please tell me you don’t think 4.5s is a shorter time than 4.13s? If you do then please learn how numbers work or better yet, delete your reply and do one

@@esaiapasay6760 that is why I said ESTIMATED. Are you taking the piss mate? 4.5 = 4.50. Now your tiny brain might not be able to comprehend that but that is how numbers work and, believe it or not, 4.5 is slower than 4.13
I think you can't judge rugby only by the hits and tackles. It's the nonstop gameplay what makes it so great to watch. There is no "get tackeld, then stop the game and discuss our next gameplay"
You have to make your decision while running, kicking, passing.
If you tackle another player and you lift him, it's your responsibility to bring him down safely. You want to defeat your opponent on the field, but you don't want to get seriously harmed. Respect is one of the highest values in rugby.
If we "kill the enemy" who will share a beer with us after the game?
Definitely worth watching a full game of Rugby Union (and League) for context. I love American Football but if that’s your only perspective it’s going to skew how you see Rugby (which works both ways too)
You need to watch a full 80 minutes state of origin. if you want to see big hits but it's also good to learn the difference between rugby league and rugby
Rugby guys do have “protection” it’s called a Mouthguard.
What you miss from all these clips, because the segment stops, is that in rugby play continues. Most of the guys you see clattered will be up and playing on just after the tackle. That is, unless you a caught in a ruck/maul which is basically like a wrestling match.
And big clear-outs(big hits) in the maul- the hits continue.
Rugby is far more aggressive than American football, and requires greater physical health to compete.
American football is more strategical but Australian rugby is much rougher.
NFL is not more strategic.

As a South African and a Springbok (South African National Team) fan, I think you guys need to research rugby more before you can really comment on rugby vs football. Your comments are far from accurate. there was a American collage football team that visited South Africa and was introduced to a SA Varsity Team (University) in Cape Town to train with them and exchange skills, the American team was very much surprised at what it took and needed to play rugby and left with a great education and vice versa. suggest you research your American MRL and speak to some of those players as most of them at some stage played American football. I think If you want to comment you should know what to comment on, eg what is good or bad tackles in rugby for starters.
Wow this must be the first time, as an Englishman, that I’ve agreed with a saffa 😂. Their knowledge of the game is woeful, and it was only made worse by them watching a video with a mixture of both union and league
All of the rugby videos are professional and in rugby 80% of the time you can see the defender your running into so you could choose to run them over or get smashed not so hard to figure out in the NFL most big hits are blindside hits so it'll be alot easier to run into someone with all that gear and years of practicing with it on. In rugby every position learns defense there isn't an offense and defense team everyone out there can tackle you, run over you or around you.
Rugby League is not rugby!! Rugby Union is know as Rugby and is played over in the states at some colleges. This video shows the 3 codes Gridiron, Rugby Union and Rugby League. Wish people would get it right Union and League are 2 different games.
Expecting the world to know specifically what Rugby League is, is like expecting the world to know the difference between Canadian Football and American Football. Maybe a better name for the vid should have been Rugby Football vs Gridiron Football (all variations covered)
The best way I have heard it described is that Union (the best) is a game for animals played by gentlemen, whereas League is a game for gentlemen played by animals
@@alistairbell9541 actually that quote is normally used to describe Rugby Football & Association Football 😉😊
The average NFL player is physically moving for only about 11 minutes per game. Wide receivers and cornerbacks do the most running, covering about 1.25 miles per game a Rugby player The average rugby player will run 6km (4.35 miles) in an 80 minute match. · A scrumhalf on average runs 7km (4.35 miles) during a rugby match with some running. Peaceout
About 10 years back they put pedometers on over 1600 AFL players and found on average they run 14 km per game (8.6 miles). Have to admit that AFL, Ruby League, Rugby Union and Soccer (yes I know I should call it Football) covers more distance. NFL players get a lot of concussion injuries because they make the mistake of thinking the helmet will protect them whereas new studies coming out says it could be making it worse.
Rugby - Till I collapse, montage will show you rugby hits without slowing down. Also agree with an earlier comment there's barely any start stop in rugby it's the full 40 minute half
Till I collapse is full of illegal and disgracefully poor tackle execution. Not the best one for showing average rugby big hits but one to see how hard players can potentially be hit
@@alexwheelhouse4530 the hits were legal because the shoulder charge was allowed lol you sound like you hate rugby 😂😂
Hey dudes, Our Aussies Rugby League, Union and Aussie Rules players are built like "bricks" too but are more slimmer and faster and DONT wear protective padding! All hits are pure body slammers... Rugby players, both male and female are on the field, running, tackling and full on for 40 mins (AFL is 4x20 quarters) whereas the Gridiron players stop after every tackle! Would love to see Gridiron players play a game of League, or Union or Aussie Rules... not sure if they would last 15 mins lol... Cheers from Australia.
Consider not just the differences between the types of hits, but also the frequency of those big hits on each player throughout a game.
With all the stops and starts in NFL it takes like 2 hours to play 24 minutes... It's just not exciting to watch.
I would rather watch paint dry :)
Rugby is like American football but played by men 🤣🤣
Correction, American football is like rugby but played by girls in pigtails and a skirt 😂
American football may have faster players & harder hits due to fresh players & pads, but in rugby they get hit more often with the continuous play & combined with fatigue it does result in more injuries in rugby
More frequent injuries but much less severe ones due to proper tackle technique
Rugby brought the wrap around rule in a few years ago to prevent injuries. Doesn’t take much skill to put your shoulder in to someone.
@@carlcunningham9538 football players are supposed to wrap, they are taught how but they just don’t
Definitely don’t get hit more often

World champians, in their own minds, in a sports event that only has American teams. I really hope these guys do get out and about in the world at some point. Not just AU but other places also. They are learning but still somewhat closed minded to what is possible and normal for the rest of us.
In rugby it’s 40 minutes of no stop running then a 5 minute break then anther 40 minutes of running rugby is so much more athletic
America like to create sport where only they compete and then call themselves "World champions".
Watch the nrl and the nrl state of origin
I’ve watched both live (competitive but not pro at all) and even as an Aussie I much prefer gridiron as a sport, the tackles to me looked ‘harder’ but in rugby there seem to be way more tackles going on during the game and it’s continuous play as opposed to the stop start nature of gridiron, personally I find gridiron or even just Americans to have way more spirit and fun in their sports too
Dumbest opinion
most Australians watch Aussie Rules Football (the AFL league), rugby is only popular in Queensland and New South Wales. and whereas in rugby you can only get hit from front-on, in AFL you can get hit/tackled from 360 degrees.
Nsw and Qld together make up just over 50% of the population of Australia

You do realise more than half the population of Australia live in NSW and Qld. State of Origin is the highest rating show in Aus year after year and there is two codes of rugby in Australia with international games and world cups.

Rugby doesnt have breaks with a fanfare like American Football. The men get up. Just play with injuries and still go down the pub afterwards without needing mass endorsements to prove their masculinity. Then they go to work the next day doing their day jobs.
Hope that helps
Which is tougher? What a facile concept, invariably argued by people who never played either sport. It's about what you grew up with. Cracking reaction, chaps.

Why do Americans refer to their “Football” when they don’t use their feet ? The only kickers are kicking directly in front of the posts that a 5 year old could do
You guys should watch just about any Rugby game between The All Blacks (NewZealand) vs South Africa or

Problem is American Football does not have the endurance. We have had Anerican Football player's try out here, they do not last very long. I am talking about players who have been cut from NFL teams not College Football
Yeah that is why I say. They are built like dragsters and rugby is more like that top speed formula 1. There is a place for both.

@@TheCommodity What I missed saying, AF and CFL orginally came from ancient Rugby Union. Rugby has split into two main branches Rugby Union and Rugby League. They are pretty well different games: Player types, size of ball, and of course Rules. Rugby League is the fastest type. It’s easy to hit someone when they are not looking because you have all the freedom in the world to do as you please.
Rugby. You are focused meaning mentally you are prepared to run to a guy and know contact is mimicking your move so rugby hits are much harder to pull off then just blind siding someone or 4 people grass cutting your legs.
the history of rugby a public school in the town of rugby were playing football one day one of the players got a bit bord and decided to pick the ball up and run with it the other players that seams a good idea, and the game of rugby came about (the came from the town where the public-school kids came up with the rules .

No matter which way you cut it rugby is by far the tougher sport, there are no offensive or defensive or special teams the 15 guys on the pitch unless substituted play for 80 mins you need to be big strong and athletic.
Every single rugby clip is professional rugby players all over the world from 7's to league toe union rugby. From what I saw on the football every single player hurt themselves by trying to jump over the defense players.
With the BFL when you hit wearing a helmet the brain will continue to move forward and bruise the brain. This leads to the punch drunk syndrome.
American football can be improved with rugby techniques like I'm from New Zealand but i played madden enough to understand Gridiron ..So like if you do a outside run play from QB to FB and then do a rugby move (Draw and pass) to the HB so the FB draws the D to him and then passes ball to HB in open space in the gap be like a rugby trick play ..and another rugby move that is key to getting yards? is the offload pass like a draw and pass you draw the D but you take the tackle and offload pass to player beside ball carrier because NFL rules can pass forward you can exploit that..and in defense in gridiron tackle with head up and drive the legs instead of ramming them drive them back :) the best way to learn a sport is play the video games try rugby challenge 4 ps4/xb1/ns i remember playing nfl fever on the original xbox and i liked making my own plays on it ..rugby has set plays what we call it and pod formations .i was a flanker when i played rugby like a line backer but a flankers job is to tackle and turn over the ball the idea is to take the ball before the ruck is formed and if the ball runner don't let go of the ball we win a penalty i averaged about 20 tackles a game i done some bad sh!% in rugby lol
Nfl is like rugby but for school girls : "i want to attack" "i only want to defend"" i want my helmet and pads" "ball felt? Stop the game" "need to run comercials? Stop the game" " no nfl player could play rugby at high level. I even think that top females rugby teams are tougher that a lot of male nfl teams.

Rugby players plays both offense and defense full 80 minutes and you need endurance, but you have to be well rounded player cause even though they have players with their own role and position everyone is involved with the ball whereas NFL is explosive and you reset alot and players are more assigned to play their specific role such as defense players are more focused on defense and offense players focused only in offense hope that makes sense I'm bad at explaining, both great game

Rugby is 2 x 40 minute halves of continuous play. Players don’t bounce of tackles, they are trying to drive through each other, then get up and keep playing. A lot more power and technique in the rugby hits. The video you watched was pretty ordinary.

This Rugby is modern and not as good as the 80's. Watch the Springboks and All Blacks from that era. Head stomping was a prerequisite.
Athleticism is important in a lot of sports but its only a fraction of others. For instance, when Usain Bolt quit running, his heart was always on playing soccer and he'd been playing the game since he was a child. He tried to get a professional contract in the UK but after that came to Australia to try and play in the national league here for one of the weaker teams that needed the sort of promotion that he would bring. After trialing for a couple of weeks, he was not offered a contract, despite his pace and physical prowess. I sense he might have got a shot in the NFL, with no experience though. Skill comes first before anything else in soccer. I don't really appreciate sports as much that emphasise running, jumping etc. before the skill side because I feel like the investment in attaining that ability is an achievement and more of a spectacle. Anyone can make it in soccer with the right dedication and training etc. but I feel like there are some sports that there is no point of even trying if you're not in the top 1% in terms of genetic athleticism. I was a bit saddened to observe the testing they do for the AFL draft that was being conducted outside of my office, where they basically get these 17-18 year old kids to do all of these running and jumping events and they write down all of their times and stats that are significantly used to determine who gets selected and who doesn't, rather than focussing upon game play. I was thinking that skill and ability to read the game would matter a whole lot more, so maybe the AFL has got the wrong model. BTW Australia was one of the 32 teams to qualify for the soccer world cup ny beating Peru and it is a big deal here. They completely underestimated us and it was a bit of a shock to the system. I know you guys probably aren't into soccer but the conclusion of the sudden death qualifying match last night on penalties swas both very tense and funny - might be worth a look.
Rugby forwards average height is 6 ft plus…..they are BIG BOYs bro….and move fast……very fast…….them hitting you is like a cement truck running you over……..and that’s without gears….we all know with pads, hits will be harder because there’s less caution to the wind….so why is there more concussions in NFL than RUGBY……doesn’t make sense but there are the facts….we much tougher in rugby - facts
Pads , helmets and you stop every minute for a down... an American footballer would get killed at rugby.. you're trained to be fast and strong for minute bursts. . Rugby players are fast and strong for 80 minutes 🏴
C'mon guys be real. All the respect for a beatiful sport as Nfl who i really like even if I get in love with poor jaksonville. But in terms of strenght endurance stamina and speed cause they don't wear 10kg of protection rugby player are stronger.
Tbh a nfl player would probably quit rugby after there first game
NFL is way more dangerous because these players are going to run as hard as they can with so much padding on they think they are safer but they just go way harder and after 20 years they will end up like Mike Tyson (IYKYK). But these rugby players can't just ram into another from any direction leading with their shoulder, they have to atleast try and wrap their arms around the other player but still can use their shoulder.
Ain't no one convincing me that wearing more protection than Neil Armstrong on the moon is somehow gonna be hit harder getting tackled than a guy out in his t-shirt and shorts. I'm not buying it... American "Football" is also so sissified now I'm hesitant to even call it a contact sport. American Football was created from Rugby, specifically because Americans couldn't handle the original sport.
There’s 2 types of rugby. There is union and there is league.
Average height and weight is the same as NRL.
state of origin matches are the top end with the best players across the board going head to head.
I’m 5”10 and about 220 pounds and the players from both codes make me look small.
I’m 6ft 215 and I feel tiny next to the even the smaller players. Met Jamie George once, bearing in mind I’ve got about 2 inches on him, his girth still makes me look small 😂
