Looks like a really enjoyable route. Much nicer than the LEJOG road route that I did

Hi Pete, I’m watching your series after I completed the GB divide in July 2023. It was just as wet for me riding through Wales. One night I slept at the bothy in your video at 9:32. I hung all my wet clothes up but they were all still as wet when I packed them up in the morning. All the surrounding woods were wet so I couldn’t collect any dry branches to lite the fire in the bothy that might have helped.

That sounds very memorable! I wished I had stayed in a bothy whilst I was there!

I just finished the GB divide, and I'm watching your video. The beacon was for me one of the most challenging offroad sections of the trip (I even felt twice). I had that same worries than you after that. Nice to see other people who experienced the same pain and pleasure (the view was indeed one of the best). Good job for the trip and the video.

The Brecon Beacons were extremely hard, I would say it’s the most technical section of the whole route. Luckily I had good energy at that part, I’m sure if I was in a worse state it would have broken me!

best bike for that, 90s raleigh avanti, with a girling flex stem, reynolds 531, gel saddle, 52 teeth rear mech, and a dragon chasing you :) lol.

3:08 you road passed by house lol, that old quarry was shut down early 80s, the first lake with the dam you looked on was Pontsticill, home of brecon mountain steam railway, the main road (invisible path) was the main road, until the railway and road was pu iu, in the early 1900s, bit of trivia for you, teh mountain range you was on, is pen y fan, sas training grounds, in the summer, several soldiers have died up there, exhaustion. so you picked the right time.

    Hi Pete.
I just found your videos looking for info for my 50th birthday trip. I am from Basque country, and I will only have time to do Wales and Scotland, luckyly...
I subscríbete the very first minute.
    Keep on going....
I will write you more if you don't mind to ask you for info, specially about the GPS tracks.
    Enjoy!!!!!

      Hi again Pete.
Where did you get the tracks for the GPS?
I see you go with a gravel bike, but I see you in some hike a bike sections. Is It due to the reason that you are filming o due to the terrain? Muy gravel has 45mm tires.
So dar, did you considera having a MTB instead of the gravel?
Thabks for your help and your fast answer to the previous comment.
      Regards,
      Ivica

I'm a Brit - how exactly did you book your accommodation along the way? (when you didn't camp). On the day (if so, when?), or in advance? A specific app? Or did you just spot somewhere on your ride and ask if they had rooms?
Love your vids btw - they're straightforward in style and refreshing in their complete absence of narcissism!

Thanks Andy, appreciate the kind words! No planning whatsoever. My main game plan each day was find a good pub for dinner then hook onto the wifi and have a look around on google maps or booking.com. If nothing good I would often ride off into the evening and either keep looking for find a spot to wildcamp. I think for this adhoc strategy you really need a tent as your back up. I would often roll into smaller towns and nothing at all was available.

@@pedallingsquaresNZ thanks that's great info and advice. I've only done "flash-packing" once i.e. took my bike and overnighted in a Dales hotel. But I was quite careful to find their number and call and ask if I can put my bike in my room. But all that took time and effort - not what you want on a trip like this. Did you take a more relaxed approach and just wait til you got there and put your bike wherever they let you, like a backroom or something?

    • @pedallingsquaresNZ
      @pedallingsquaresNZ  2 роки тому +1

@@GreenAlien2023 yeah I found people generally very helpful around the bike. I would often just call the BNB directly to ask about last minute vacancy as the websites are generally not updated with last minute cancellations and then would ask about the bike at the same time. Staying atop pubs was handy but I sometimes found they had less safe space for bikes. Preference is BNBs I think.

Definitely for some areas! But I feel like this is the kind of route where no single bike is perfect for all the areas anyway
