One is that Ethan admits he doesn't have much political knowledge when someone wants to debate him on politics, which is perfectly excusable; it's not fair to only debate people with little political or debate experience. However when Stewart said what he said it was in the context of being asked why his show isn't more genuine and serious with how it presents it's ideas, to which he replied, because he's an entertainer first and foremost and that his show was presented as a comedy show about politics. He wasn't dodging a debate, he was elaborating on why his show isn't presented with journalistic integrity after critiquing how Carlson's show pretends to have journalistic integrity. Stewart was right to say what he said. There was no copout.

Maybe it'd help if you could point to a specific case where you say the context is different because as far as OC's comment goes, they were clearly talking about the famous time he did this that I was referring to. That could help clear up some confusion.
