    Firstly, thank you for yet another interesting & informative review. I agree this gun is pretty much as near to perfection as you will get for a springer & for under £350! I have the LGU & LGV master pro... Both are the most accurate springers I've ever shot. The LGU under lever ball bearing lock up isn't something I'd criticize personally as it's effective & simple. Neither the LGU or LGV are light weights, not ideal to carry for long periods, but they are so smooth, quiet & did mention accurate?... an Engineering high point for Walther & springers. I would recommend the LGU or LGV to anyone that can handle the weight of the guns, especially if you're a leftie like myself & refuse to pay the extra £50 or more that certain other manufacturers still charge for a left handed stock!

      how does the LGV stack up against the LGU? is the LGV noticably lighter and does the barrel latch compensated for it being a break barrel. thanks in advance

    Great review. Our kid has bought a new 2016 Walther LVG Master Pro and has fitted a new A-Tec silencer on it. Unbelievably quiet and smooth. As quiet as a top PCP. I'm looking at an LGU. I own an Air Arms TX200 and the Walther is same standard. Lovely!

      but a bit cheaper..I assume you've still got both, so how do they compare,I know the TX is a lot prettier.

    I bought a brand new, boxed, today LGU Master in .177 and couldn’t be happier. The place I got it had a further 8 or 10 Masters in .177, a Varmint new in .177 and about 10 brand new boxed Masters in ..22

    Just bought mine and agree with everything you say, beautiful rifle apart from the underlever catch ! To overcome this I 3D printed a cover with some lead-in that slips over the ball catch, slightly larger than original but works well and also protects the end of the barrel too !

  • @hendrickotto103

    I've got all three top shelf underlevers, all in .177. Mr. Rack, I very much appreciate the way you pay attention to stock details in your reviews. Even after a few months I'm still struggling with that non-UK plastic trigger and would have preferred a barrel chop by 1 1/2 inch or so. Also the breech is not chamfered and pellets could seat easier. Accuracy is spot on with JSB Exacts, a little less with Express. Other pellets still to be tested. Cocking stroke and shot cycle are indeed amazing for smoothness and silence. The ball is very much in HWs court now (somewhat less in AAs court in view of better internals than HW). As to overall handling & loading for me: tops is still the 97 K and between TX 200 HC and LGU it's still a draw. For hunting / HFT, 97 K seems the the better suited of the three. For pistol grip fit and trigger reach, LGU finishes first for me. However, for non- UK markets, Walther is cordially invited to send the optional "Metal Target" trigger for free as a dealer operated after sales service ! Incorporation of the standard version in this rifle is nothing less than inexcusable.

    Have the LGV in 177, its like having a mid-range PCP in your hands. Swear by it me, I have had the 95 97 98 99, tx200, Prosport and this Walther LGV is my go-to rifle, best I have had yet, I did put a Rowan Engineering match trigger on it, it does affect the safety catch for some unknown reason, the catch engages, it just does not engage if you get my drift, you can still fire the rifle even though the safety catch is in its switched on position, I have tried everything to fix this but no luck, the moment I put the old trigger back on it works. Must be the way the Rowan trigger is machined, ah well, get a Walther LGV or LGU you won't go wrong, I know you can't buy them new anymore but if you can find one second hand, buy it, you won't go wrong if it's been looked after.

    Ambidextrous stock fair enough but what´s about the loading port ? Hardly ambidextrous. Check the HW97 ... still the best springer. Record trigger still unmatched, design far superior, 97 underlever and lighter weight. So what exactly is better on the Walther ?

    I really fell in love with this rifle after your review. I'm looking to by my first air rifle and have trouble choosing the right one for me. Before I saw this video, I wanted to buy a Gamo 1250 G-Magnum IGT, but I am a little bit afraid that it is to loud for my backyard,..and I don't want to disturb the neighbors. I wanted the Gamo because it is powerful and I like to shoot long distances,..but to be honest, I probably don't need that much power anyways (?). The Walter is so beautiful and looks so well made but the Gamo was already on the edge of what I can afford and the Walter is almost twice as expensive, even without the scope :( ...

I decided to buy the Weihrauch HW97 btw (wich is the most popular :) The problem with the gamo is the built quality and accuracy in comparison with the Walther and the Weihrauch. Not saying, that it is a bad rifle, its powerful and all,...its just not as good as the other two.

    Guys on pin point accuracy, let me explain why NOTHING with a spring comes close to the Walther LGU. Well almost nothing, maybe Feinwerkbau 300S and the $5000 dollar Wiscombe rifles. If you compare accuracy, shooting beer cans or silhouette targets or even 5 shot groups at 20-30m, all the topend springers outperform most owners. BUT, put up a 25m benchrest target and see how close to a full score of 250 you can come with your topend springer. On a nice sunny windless day the PCP bench shooters easily do 248-250. I went through close to 40 tins of JSB 8.44's and 2 Walther springs, trying to get to close as possible to PCP scores.
    I started my quest with a self tuned Hatsan 70. The highest score was a once of 218, but the average 195 - 210. Ok, given with a 4x scope. Then I borrowed a HW 97 with 4-12 scope. Average 215-220 with a high of 226. I bought an AA S400 PCP with 4-12 glass an easily average 240 on calm days. Then I sold the PCP and bought the formidable Walther LGV Comp Ultra with a Leapers 8-32 scope. 233 avg in almost any condition with the odd 237/238 here and there with a PB of 243. Then came along my brother with his brand new LGU also with an 8-32 scope. Installed and adjusted a tuning trigger and shoot the first benchrest target, TWO FOURTY FOUR. I had the LGU for a month and shot many 240+ scores. My brother claimed he shot a 246 indoors. Now I dare to say, no HW, Pro Sport,TX or whatever new out there is close to the LGU.

    Hello I ask for a brief assessment rifles exposing them a place on the podium, taking into account all the pros and cons. The scope of the casting 0.177 (4.5 mm) rifle for competition - Weihrauch HW97KT - Walther LGU Master - Air Arms TX200MK3. The Lord choice I will take into consideration when buying. Of course, after you purchase enters compulsory SPA professional review and amendments, thank you.

    only drawback of the LGU is that's its almost impossible to clean the barrel w/o removing barrel weight, pull through or rod they both just get stuck where the barrel ends inside the barrel weight ., I've got LGU .22 and while it shoots beautifully cleaning the bbl is a nightmare

    I recently seen a review by air gun web that said this LGU wouldn't be good for hunting because it is slow. What is your opinion on a accurate air gun for small game?
    Also a scope. Thank you

    • @racknload
      @racknload  9 років тому

      shameless716 Well, it is a single shot and that is all we used to hunt with years ago air gun wise. Like any gun, you get the feel of it and loading it then becomes second nature. As for scopes, depends on your budget, I'm a big fan of Hawke scopes for the money.....

    Oh no! What a gutter! I was really enjoying this rifle and actually looking forward to having this puppy for a few years until I saw the under lever. We can already see the wear and tear coming through on the lever of which then I see a lever dropping out as the steel ball digs its path. Such a shame really and to be fair with the HW97 around the same price and with a superior locking system, it could be a deal breaker. As we can see it is the lever that will wear out first which also makes it more expensive to restore. I am wondering if the actual ball head can be converted? It looks like there is a screw there on the head so do we have a firmware upgrade possibility here?

    gosh, I keep hearing about these LGVs and now this LGU is making me think hard about this one. Being a 34 year owner of an original Beeman branded Hw77 (25mm tube) and recently purchasing a newer TX200 MkIII I do love my underlevers for hunter field target and light pest control work. Nothing but excellent reviews on these new Walthers so I can either get into my first PCP, have my TX200 tuned up for next years shooting season OR get this super cool LGU. What to do? Cheapest way out is to get my TX worked over but this thing is tempting me big time. Are the triggers still made of plastic?

    • @nomanmcshmoo8640
      @nomanmcshmoo8640 10 років тому

      These are NOT under-rated, that's for sure. Between my Diana, my roomie's Walther LGV and my dad's Weihrauch...it's a battle of the giants between the Weihrauch and the Walther...my Diana doesn't even come close. It would help if RWS could put a barrel on straight. How concentricity continues to elude Diana is beyond me.
      The Walther's trigger IS plastic, however, unlike the newer Rubber 10/22 ( oh, did I mean Ruger? ) the trigger on the Walther is fantastic....in fact, I give it the edge over a Weihrauch Rekord.
      If I were you, I'd definitely look into an LGU as shown in RACKNLOAD's video. Get a good mount and nice, clean optics and you'll be in heaven. Unlike other springers, the LG series is so incredible soft shooting you won't have to worry about tearing up a good scope like you will on other springers.

      TX200 is copy of 97k 😀

    • @silverbackdp
      @silverbackdp 8 років тому

      No.. Tx is not a copy of the 97/77 internally.. The only copying part is the underlever design itself.. Tx has a rotary piston design and so does the lgu.. The 97/77 does not have a rotary piston.. Also the piston and sliding breech are of a cheaper quality and poorly finished comapared to a lgu or tx200.. So no.. Its not a copy.. The Rotary piston of a tx and lgu give much more of a smoother shot cycle and less recoil compared to a hw.

      +silverbackdp..... I bought a Walther Terrus (.22) for my wife a couple of weeks ago.... very nice gun. I ordered the "new" Walther Parrus (.22) for myself and will be here tomorrow (10 - 13 - 16)... then I "discovered" the new Walther LGU "Varmint" Rifle - which will be here on Friday (10 - 14 - 16).
      I must say that I like the more open breech of the HW 97 much more than the slightly more than half opening of the LGU.
      I have been really wanting the HW 97 KT (synthetic with blued barrel)... but none have come in for a couple of months now (USA) .... so the LGU "Varmint" caught my attention.
      Do you "see" any possible issue with the cocking arm on the LGU - with it possibly wearing out.. due to the "ball" retaining system on it... and it possibly wearing a "groove" into the cocking arm "head" and thereby loosening it to the point that it could start "dropping" the cocking arm ??
      Also - how long has Walther been using the "rotary piston" ??.... I've never even heard of that.. before.
      What is the main "difference" between a "rotary" piston... and the piston used by virtually all other Manufacturers in their spring / piston airguns ??
      Thanks and would appreciate your reply.
