    My name is April Lauren, I share bits of my story here on UA-cam, I'm a RYT 200 Yoga Instructor with a background in public relations and communications and my husband is in the Army. Summer of 2020 my weight reached 352.8, miserable and full of fear, I knew I had to change. I couldn't keep crash dieting and failing... cycling. I took a different approach. I decided to figure out what my body needed, what I needed and to take full responsibility for weight and my progress... And thus my weight loss journey began. With patience, kindness and determination, I began and am still going. I am halfway to my weight loss goal of losing 200 lbs and have found a passion for fitness and running. And, I'm training for my first half marathon. I look forward to sharing my progress, bits of my story and our adventures. Thank you for encouraging me.

    When you run a 10k, try to make sure it's combined with a half marathon, and half marathons combined with marathons. That way the course will be guaranteed to stay open longer. Also the 5k/10k family friendly run/walks usually have less competitive times. Keep up the good work!

    April make sure you check the cut off times for your half marathon. My last one had a cut off of 3.5 hours. The runners still running at that time did not receive a medal and were counted as a DNF

    • @AprilLauren
      @AprilLauren  Рік тому +11

      The 10K did not have an official (listed nor advertised) cut off time. If they did, I would not have been disappointed/surprised they took things down. The half marathon did list a cut off time and their process at sign up.

      My coach said it's happened quite a few times with smaller races (and slower runners). There wasn't a cut off time listed or shared, so it caught me off guard and really had me feeling down. But, I will definitely ask better questions going forward.❤

    I really miss your weekly videos. But I know you are swamped with so many things. I am glad you did take time for yourself. Still, I am so happy to see you again. You did great on that 10K! I couldn't run down the block. LOL Moving is so stressful. I hate moving. How are your dogs doing? Have they adjusted to Hawaii? Over a year ago we were renting a townhouse. Suddenly we discovered we had 30 days to vacate because the owner was selling the house. Turns out the property management KNEW months before that the owner was selling and didn't tell us. We found out from a very nice real estate lady who was acting for the owners. Talk about stress! I was so overwhelmed that Walter hired some ladies that packed up people's houses for a iving to pack ours. Then hired movers. Walter had to rush to get us another place to live because I was so overwhelmed by the stress, I froze. We ended up in a 55+ community. Walter bought a mobile home real quick which needed fixing up. Thank God my daughter-in-law is a professional painter. We paid her to paint the interior before we moved in and later she painted the outside. We paid her for her work. My son and her built us a storage shed and new stairs out the back door. Walter paid them for that, too. They did a great job. SO...I totally understand moving stress in a big way.

You should be very proud of yourself. You've come along way! Your journey is very inspirational, and it gives, so many people, hope. Here's wishing you safe travels. My father was in the Army 32 years. I was born in Texas and lived there until I was nine. My mother’s health made her realize it was better to be in her home town near family while my Dad continued to deploy overseas. So I only had that one major move at nine. At 67 years of age now, I still remember the devastating feelings of not receiving our complete household goods. Stuff was lost and never found. I was fortunate to have been around the same friends for those first years. Military life is difficult. I wish you the best as you literally move forward.

    i’m sorry your first 10k was underwhelming! i can’t believe the organizers packed up with a RUNNER STILL ON THE COURSE! please send an email to the race organizers, tell them about your experience (especially the lack of support and water stations at the end) and let them know that they need to include a registration warning that “runners must maintain xx pace.” that absolutely should not have happened and i hope your race experiences moving forward are more encouraging. in hawaii, please try and look up a group called USA-Fit. I cannot recommend them enough to beginning runners especially. i had support training from my pace of 19 min/mile and worked down to sub-11 min/mile to run my first marathon in chicago. was i in the last thousand runners that finished? yep. but did i get picked up by the sag wagon? HELL NO! and my running friends helped get me through that. what a feeling. i wish you the best as you transition to life in hawaii and continue your running journey. i remember watching you working up to walking a couple of blocks and adding some light jogging. look how far you’ve come! ❤
