I have the same guitar and I actually love the rythm pickup and hate the treble. Looking at getting something for high gain cause I don't really have a guitar like that yet.
Thanks for the video. I put a pearly gates in the bridge position of a Les Paul Classic a few years ago and loved it. I'm currently upgrading a PRS SE Standard which is a older one with mahogany neck and body. No maple top which should be close to a SG as far as tone woods. Were you completely happy with the pickups and mojo tone parts? I plan on using a Seymour Duncan YJM speed pot in for volume and a no load pot for my tone. Btw I put an original Gibson T top pickup out of a 1970 SG Special in that les paul classic neck position. I've been doing this kind of stuff since 82' so I'm no novice. Thanks for your video and your opinion is appreciated.
Eric Denton yes mojotone is great stuff. They use cts for their prewired harnesses, but I wired mine from scratch. You may want to look at mojos pickups too. They are great. There is another demo of a Les Paul I did for a customer with mojo harness and some of their classic hot pickups through this same amp.
I must add the tone comparison is night and day. It sounds like you used a 47u tone cap. To my ears it's to dark. Maybe try a 33u or even 15u tone caps. Second did you use CTS or Bourns pots? Thanks.
Oh, NO need to apologize, Greg! I was tossing around the idea in my head. After hearing how insanely great yours sounded afterward, and the idea of the solderless kit (I'm the WORST solderer!), I was sold! I have the parts and the SG already in my cart waiting for Friday morning!
@@Owen_plays_music1049they are nice pickups. I actually don’t have the guitar anymore. Sold it off for another guitar I wanted more. You know how it is. 😂
DpelPat Delisle nothing, they worked fine. I don’t really like the circuit boards with the pots mounted to it. Since I was changing pickups I put all the good quality stuff inside.
Hi Greg just seeing your post here " ummm.....Okay check this out man " I have the new Sg - Red Epiphone and my cousin was nice enough to actually give me a Brand - new set of Seymour Duncan Pickups brother & anyways question !!? How do i put them in myself or should i just pay $ for my Local - Redphish music to Professionally install them in for me !! Which do u think is the better option or is it easyier to place them in myself !!!!?
Joseph Williams depends on your skill level. If you have ever done electronics work and soldered before then go ahead and do it. Duncan has wiring diagrams on their page. If you aren’t comfortable or inexperienced them have a pro do it. If you make a bunch of mistakes it will cost you more to have it corrected and have them installed than it would have to just have them installed.
@@jvstrat1 Thank you brother your right i mean my Guitar is so Beautiful & Awesome like yours nice gibson btw & nice to meet u yeah i think it's best to use your advice because mines so in perfect condition & i don't wanna accidentally make any minor mistakes !!! So yeah i think i'll get the professionals to install them lol Keep rocking brother !!
I have a 1971 SG with all original parts and, I called Gibson, gave them the SN and, they don't have any information on it. That's disappointing. Of course they blamed it on a fire. BS! Is there any other way I can get info on my axe? Also, I want to upgrade my pickups. I'm looking for a cleaner sound for R&B music. Any suggestions?
That is disappointing that they couldn’t help you. Look up Lambertone pickups. They have Crema or Grinder humbuckers. Lower output and very clear and articulate.
New sub. I need help bro!!!! SG's and LP's if you don't mind about 15 minutes. I would send the axe to you and pay. That isn't the issue. Forget the LP's! For now. SG. I have an Epiphone (SG) that I really enjoy. I have an SG (Gib) that i'm not messing with, but I want to make the eppy chug! I may be into heavier metal than you, but I'm sure you get it. I'm more a Slayer guy, and have 2 Jackson's, but I feel good on the SG. I want to make the epiphone chug. SD blackouts maybe? I'm asking for your help. I lost the small finger on my left hand so playing sucks now. The SG I can manage. I'm kinda' blues playing, but trying my best with a stump. Any tips on pickups. I'd be happy with a ripping bridge pickup. The finger is 1/2 gone btw. lol. I can still get some stuff jamming. LP's if you do work, I have 2 that need to be set up. Let me know. Thank you for any tips, or help. John
John Okeeffe blackouts could be a nice option. Mojotone also makes a nice high gain pickups called back magic and another called pw hornet. They have some demos on mojotone.com
Greg do you still own this guitar ? If so , I would buy new "vintage style " hardware and install a bone nut . Finding old Gibson hardware is tough . The metal they use today is not what it used to be . There are sites that sell great bridges . Faber Abr 1h is a great replacement . Hardware and a good nut will make that guitar come to life . Plus check out String Butler . Put a V2 String Butler on there and you will have a Rock N Roll weapon . String Butler is going to allow me to play my SG live again . Tuning was an issue but not with SB .
No I actually sold it to buy a guitar I wanted more haha. Yes string butler is great. I have one on a Les Paul. I also agree on the hardware. My only Gibson’s now are 2001 and older.
To be honest they’re quite underwhelming. Doesn’t suck. Doesn’t impress. Just a good ll around pickup I guess. Nothing special really. But I wasnt standing in front of the amp either.
Sounds great! +1 on that original neck pick up sounding muddy. I just bought a 2021 Sg with490 T/R and yes it is muddy. Looking to upgrade sometime.
The Duncans make the SG more metal and versatile at the same time.
awesome video man
My future projects... Sound superb 😁
I have the same guitar and I actually love the rythm pickup and hate the treble. Looking at getting something for high gain cause I don't really have a guitar like that yet.
Sorry to put doubt in your mind and I’m not in the room there but I liked the original bridge pu a lot more.
Fair enough lol. I actually sold it for a Les Paul anyway hahaha.

Nice upgrade! I have a 2007 SG Special Faded I’d like to upgrade, can you do another demo using the gain channel please?
Aaron Cornish thanks. I’ll try to remember to do one soon.
Well, I just found my project for November. :-)
Axess2084 sorry to give you a project to do lol. Check out mojotone for your parts. They even have pre wired kits so you have less work to do. 😉

Hi Greg, which year is your Sg, please? I like it, it sounded very, very well even with the original p.u.
paolo mario alberto romualdo lumprachianistilani thank you. It’s a 2016 model.
In todays money an SG tribute. Big difference is the maple neck, whereas the special had a one piece mahogany neck.
Do you know if Gibson SG s are short or long shaft pots. When buying a new wiring harness manufactures ask that question. Thank you
daniel gunning Sg should be short shaft. Les Pauls use long shaft because of the carved top.
Greg Zarpas Thank you
I believe Mojotone makes only one size for SG. At least, that's what the online retailer I used had.
Where did you find the awesome truss rod cover?
Found it somewhere on eBay years ago
Isn't it the pickups Angus has in his SGs nowadays ?
Honestly not sure. He does have a Gibson Signature set, not sure if that’s what he still uses.
@@jvstrat1Ok, i think i seen that on Equipboard that he had Pearl Gates SM ^^
