Whenever I start to get really down, during a bad case of 'writers block', I'll just listen to Fennesz for days. More often than not, his work is able to get me back into the studio, even if i'm just sound designing, or exploring new tools, it all helps to get me working again. Along with Bach, Fennesz make up the two most important persons in my 'music/musician' side of life.
A masterclass from the master... The start of the piece sounds like an object in max called stutter~ which is a granular looper/sampler, then his guitar tone is just pure genius, around the 18min mark is pure excellence! I think he once used a POD pedal before his mixer or soundcard... I know he uses Lloop which is a kind of standalone that runs pre-programmed Max/MSP blocks/patches, I think MSP now has beep which is I suppose is very similar. A lot of his sound is focused around granular synthesis and there are now lots max4live devices that achieve this process... If you are interested in granular synthesis there is a module in Audiomulch's software called DLgranulator which is fantastic. I hope this helps : ) Thanks for the upload.
I've found these on guitarmoderne: "I experiment and am always changing things in the studio, but when I play live or begin recording I use the same signal path. I start with a Fender guitar-a Stratocaster or a Jazzmaster, into a Boss FDR-1 Fender Deluxe Reverb pedal, which is a cheap preamp. It goes into a Boss PS-3 Digital Pitch Shifter/Delay pedal. From there the signal goes into my custom distortion box, and then directly into the laptop through an Apogee Duet (in the studio I use the Apogee Ensemble). On the laptop I have the Max/MSP patch, which is like a modeler/sampler/synthesizer thing. From the laptop, I go into a Mackie mixer, which sends a mono signal to an amp and a stereo signal to the house." Pretty close!
Just closed my eyes for just over 40 mins. If you allow yourself to really listen to this it can transport you away to another world. Such a wonderful experience and a privilege to be among the damn too few who have listened to this. Fennesz; thank you.
Love it, remaining one of the best live performance ever! 5 years ago I had the opportunity to see him in Rome, and Becs pieces were really wonderful. Liminality 💙
Had never heard of Mcguire. Looked him up bc of your comment and when I found out he is from cleveland (where i grew up) I looked him up on facebook. Turns out we have a bunch of mutual friends. Small world.
Geisterfaust mic into interface into max/msp into mixer? Or mic into mixer into interface to max/msp. Also, do you know if he’s using any pedals? Processing guitar with software is so mysterious to me. I’d love to learn how to do this. I have a zoom H6. I’m not sure if this type of interface is appropriate for guitar...
I don't like the melodies, it's shitty, if I would've liked this I could apreciate it a lot, same for Dinosaur Jr., Car Seat Headrest, death cab for cuttie and practically every band sounding like Loveless My Bloody Valentine except My Bloody Valentine

How do you think he integrates physical effects pedal? Couldn't figure out maybe, he runs ppooll output in them and then to the mix

@@allrain WOW... nice work!! Do you have a link to a full interview or artricle where this quote came from? Astounding.
Where can i learn to use max msp?
Thank you for breaking down his tone. I've been obsessed with his distortion. Yes it's very "Granular." 🙏🏻

Romano anche tu? io ancora mi sto mangiando le mani per non poterci esser andato a quel concerto!
Reminds me of Harmony in Ultraviolet with moments of serenity then face melting guitar. Beautiful.
Blood Rainbow is my fav on his 2006 LP.
Control chaos is art. It's only chaos if you are looking for answers.
What a beautiful sound
Oh yes! Was waiting for this to come back online a few days after it was streamed live! Fennesz did a great thing!
The strings are melting!!!
Makes me feel like a Flying Saucer Attack song is about to break out at any minute.
Fennesz para el corazón. :3
amazing artist
I saw this concert recently in Nantes and it was spectacular, yet understated. I enjoyed so much
Este set es simplemente hermoso
love "Endless Summer"brings me here
Beautiful man. I totally dig it.
Christian Fennesz and Mark Mcguire are the two best guitarists alive.

Had never heard of Mcguire. Looked him up bc of your comment and when I found out he is from cleveland (where i grew up) I looked him up on facebook. Turns out we have a bunch of mutual friends. Small world.

Liminality off Becs.
cheers
I witnessed Liminality live a couple times about a year before Becs came out, & went half-crazy trying to find it.
does anyone knows the song titles of the 2 first guitar parts ?
does anyone know how does he get that sound around 10th minute...what does he use as far as effect on that....that's fucking amazing...
+Ivan Tasic No. Yes.
+Ivan Tasic Its called an Electric Guitar.
Al Kider Clearly not what i meant..but ok
+Ivan Tasic Well what do you mean then? Cos hes got a motherfucken guitar in his hands.
+Ivan Tasic If you thinkin its some kind of tremolo bar or effect pedal then no, hes just a skilled guitarist.
does anyone know if this set can be downloaded?
+rose darkspleen try keepvid.com
+rose darkspleen try clipconverter?
can this be bought?
a lot of the tracks are off Becs, if you haven't found that out by now
@@BaRRicade120 i did...but thanks, it helped
Is the guitar amp mic'd or is he plugged directly into the mixer?
mic'd. The guitar sounds from the amp are not processed at all, all the drones and weird sounds are from his laptop and the guitar being processed.
+Álvaro Rodríguez Ortiz so he's just playing One chord all the time?
+roy_for_real not at all.
Álvaro Rodríguez Ortiz noticed that later on

@@tobyhallitt7923nvm I mean Max. Or whatever he’s using here
But where's the drop?
The whole piece is the drop. Get real to it or search your drop elsewhere.
guitto guitto it's a joke you dumbass
Its juvenile internet chargon - disrespectful for the artists.
Think about this gentlemen and his hard work to get there one stage.

Check out some of his records...I'm currently digging Black Sea a lot. Really nothing at all like MBV.
Alex Kemp most music nowadays could be referred back to MBV, but maybe he made it before Loveless, and I understand your point
I don't think this, or any of the bands you've just mentioned there sound anything like MBV.
***** yeah, next to the bands I mentioned every band that sounds like MBV have shitty melodies
listen to the opening few mins of Venice and tell me he has shitty melodies and if you do you have shit taste.
