what a strange day, this morning I discovered the work of Philip Jeck on youtube and 5 minutes ago, while I was listening to him, I heard that he died 3 days ago,... RIP
This is one of the best things on UA-cam. What a fantastic experience to listen to this great artist, who left us too soon but gave us lots of wonderful sounds.
2 minidisc players, an SK-1 and a boss digital delay pedal? Elegant setup! My guess is he is using the laptop to loop, layer and process incoming audio from the mixer, possibly a MSP patch on the screen there?
And two dansette turntables (I also had one Circa 1967) which play at 16, 33, 45 and 78. I must say I'm surprised he can still find the needles for those things!
He has also a Zoom B2. I saw him live yesterday without the computer. Mostly he samples realtime from the MD into the SK-1 and use the two pedals and feedback in the mixer. Really cool!
Elegant is the perfect descriptor. I have watched this at at least a dozen different points since discovering Philip’s work approximately two years ago. What he accomplishes with this minimalistic setup should encourage all viewers to quell our insatiable gear acquisition syndrome and create using the tools already at our disposal.
RIP Philip Jeck, he lives on through his wonderful soundscapes.
RIP
I prefer messy setups like this over clean modular synths.

Underrated Musical Genius. ❤RIP Mr. Philip Jeck.
A true legend, always wondered how it is possible to make so beautiful music with a setup like this. Loop in peace.

Gosh this is refreshing after listening to techno for two years.
An absolute wizard. RIP and many thanks for all the music/inspiration. Memory Eternal.
RIP Philip. One of the unsung greats.
Genius. Deeply regret never seeing him live as I often travel into Liverpool and never knew he lived and performed there.
Stunning work
Keeps those loops going to there. RIP.
Such a Mensch, Such Art
Thank You, Philip

Cool, so you were at the AB! I nearly went and then got lazy at the last minute. I guess it was excellent (and were there many people)?
it was really cool... there were people sitting in the floor! :)

pretty great... only nitpick would be the church bells in the middle ... hate church bells.
That was... just... kinda weird. No?
+Илья Юн Idk, modern DJs playing assorted beatport tracks and expecting anyone to care about their name seems a lot weirder
