    It’s always the famous last words. “Nothing will change” it’s always changes and this will be bad for the hobby. I grade with both and I like both but that’s the point of having options so prices stay down and that innovation happens. This merger is absolutely catastrophic for grading. It won’t even be a year before everything changes.

    Here is my question. When is the hobby going to get back to kid focused, not just grown men with too much money to spend?

    What makes PSA a power house is the set registries which are heavily made up of low end base cards. So low end cards to SGC isn't going to be a thing IMO we’ll see I guess.

    • @sagard1234
      @sagard1234 10 місяців тому

      If PSA is truly reinvesting in a set registry, it would be VERY easy for them to either allow SGC cards into that registry or to re-create a registry for SGC. It would be a no brainer to leverage their investment to cover both PSA and SGC cards.

    Idk think this can help SGC values the small turn around times with possible demand for newer sets to SGC quick turn around times are crucial for the hobby

    I believe that until an idea (if any) comes to mind and potentially unify the slabs, the grading system and so forth both company’s will continue as usual. Unless the parent company “Collectors” implements changes and begins the merger of both operations, we should not clutch our pearls so tight

      I don’t consider it a monopoly - statistically it’s close, but I definitely see it as an anticompetitive move which I will poo-poo every time.

      @andrewreid895 10 місяців тому +1

      Statistically it isn’t close… there is still at least 3 credible grading companies people have to choose from. UA-cam on the other hand is closer to being a monopoly than PSA is & yet here you are using their platform & leaving comments.

    People are paying $1,000 cold cash for Wemby Silver Prizm RCs in raw condition....
    And there are $50 Lamelo Ball Silver Prizm RCs ALREADY GRADED in PSA on the market. So basically, pay the same price as standard grading and get the card FREE, the guaranteed grade of 9 for FREE, plus the option to crack and resubmit well centered cards for a shot at 10 (which can 5-6x value). Turnaround time gets cut from a month (standard PSA grading) to around a week or so from the major auction houses (Probstein etc).
    Sorry folks, time to make some serious cash with a market like this. LOL....

    SGC will GROW from this. I have been around this card collecting thing for 30+ years. There was a time when BGS was at the top of the card grading game. People decided to go with PSA cause it was cheaper..and did the same thing. Now for whatever reason people think PSA does something different, when they dont. SGC customer support is second to none, their turn around times are better, and price is significantly less in comparison to the competition. Sooner rather than later, by PSA capturing SGC PROVES there is no difference in card grading between these two. In fact SGC has been more consistent. PSA knew if they didnt grab SGC, they were going to move forward expeditiously. There was always a monopoly, it was just hidden. the consumer controls all. support what needs to get supported and stop over inflating PSA slab cards on ebay and so on, and the market will fix itself. SGC has wayyy too much vested in vintage cards for them to get wiped out. Wont happen. Support what truly deserves to get supported, and stop the sky is falling approach with PSA. PSA was the low budget option back in the days, remember that.

    Because I have no skin in the game and never found SGC appealing, maybe Collector's Holdings might have acquired SGC with a strategic agenda... and think about this...
    Collector's Holdings turns SGC into a lower tier grading company, more geared towards the Personal Collector. Offering slabbing at $5-8 for Authentication Only, no grading. Visually "it is what it is" as far as looking at the surface, corners, edges and centering through the slab. Develop your own opinion since many think grading is somewhat subjective as an opinion. The key takeaway is to remove forgeries and restoration (trimming, color touches, etc.) and simply authenticate. That is the role of SGC going forward.
    Then what that does is possibly anger some SGC loyalists, but from Collector's Holding's perspective "Who Cares!" since they're the new owners and have zero to do with the past of what SGC was. Then Collectro's Holdings offers SGC owners, people who have cards graded by SGC a special crossover rate to covert them into PSA graded cards. What that does is increase PSA's marketshare and convert (by a zero option forced situation) SCG loyalists into PSA customers, since many might feel SGC is a dead company for their purposes of having graded cards and will be long since forgotten in the future, so they have to crossover. The other options being CGC and BGS wouldn't be attractive and PSA would offer an attractive one-time only rate to rush decision making by SGC card owners to crossover now.
    Now Collector's Holdings owns a greater marketshare in the graded card market and has a different, new card encapsulation company focused only on authentication which might be very appealing to many collectors and even resellers, reinventing the secondary/resale marketplace to shift away from the grade and put the authentication in the forefront. With a rate lower than $10 per card, it can really attract a lot of customers who just want their cheap cards slabbed, I used to be one of these collectors when I had a $6 rate with BGS years ago and got $1 cards slabbed because I liked the look, sort of like buying a picture frame. So, I understand the motivation and appeal of something I'm predicting if not proposing (Collector's Holdings... feel free to contact me as a consultant :) !!!).
    Much as many companies have a prestige brand and a pedestrian brand... look at Gap, it has Old Navy for the Blue Collar working class and Banana Republic for the White Collar office workers, then Gap is the middle of the road. That's brand positioning and catering to target audiences.
    With grading, I don't think it works having SGC as a parallel grading company. SGC used to be a competitor. They can't co-exist with PSA under the same ownership and add much meaningful value. It's eaiser to acquire SGC to then destroy it and reincarnate it as something different, as I propose... Card Authentication.

      These companies dont want to spend endless hours and resources grading your $5 gem mint 10's. They want all the people who rummege through dollar bins out of the hobby. There is major major money in sportscards now and its going to keep getting bigger. Companies are targeting people with money and want big money cards in graded holders. When you bulk sub 500 cards that have a raw average value of $.50, you are wasting everybodys time, money and resources, including your own. Would you rather own a million cards worth a dollar each? Or one card worth a million dollars? The hobby doesnt want collectors who hoard dollar cards. NO SOUP FOR YOU

      @@CDubRealTalk..grading is for anyone. Why would a grading company care of what you grade as long as they get paid. I guess PSA did not like grading my 1996 Topps Chrome Refractor basketball set last year since the majority of the cards were commons.
