This was a perfect episode. I appreciate the effort that Keith put into this in finding, truly, a fun book to match each chair. It must be simultaneously humbling to sit in the chair while amusing to see the theories of the day.
I so enjoy not just the content itself, but the people Brady interviews and interacts with. At first I thought he was selecting "interesting" people to video, but I was wrong. Anyone who loves their work will be interesting in the hands of a good interviewer.
The Ice Ages are correlated with the Milankovitch cycles (look it up on Wikipedia), which are *partly* caused by the gravity of Jupiter and Saturn. The cycles have multiple components and several different causes. So Robert Ball is somewhat right at 6:06.
It would have been interesting to se the kind of furniture they have around right now! I love that the Royal Society archives everything under the Sun. "Do we need Sir Martyn Poliakoff's Post-it Notes?" "Of course! I'll send them to the secondary underground Post-it vault in Northwich."
You may have laughed at Robert Ball's hypothesis that Jupiter and Venus caused the Ice Ages, but he was ahead of his time. The Milankovitch Cycles are changes in the Earth's orbital characteristics caused by perturbations mainly from Jupiter. The solar insolation changes which can bring on the ice ages. In these cases CO2 acted as a feedback which amplified the temperature changes.
I love the Royal Society's attention to detail for their original coat of arms by making sure the dog has a noticeable red rocket highlighted by red paint lol
I love the creativity and fun both of you have hunting down and sharing all of these wonderful objects. I really look forward to watching the two of you in these videos - Keith has become a great favorite! I hope you continue - this is one of your best channels, Brady.
Mr.Ball was not entirely wrong ,Earth's orbit goes through several pertibations over long periods of time. and although it is not the only factor involved in the creation of an ice age, it is one of them . And Jupiter's orbit is a contributing factor. (I learned this on you tube so it has to be true )😊 PBS space time chanel
I'm a little surprised they didn't acknowledge that the writer of the first book, Robert Boyle, is basically the father of modern chemistry. Yeah, THAT Boyle of Boyle's Law that every chemistry student learns. Enormously important scientist. Need to revisit Boyle in Objectivity with one of the Periodic Videos profs in tow.

Keith is such a great person.

Such a chairful video.
Yes, I'm glad I didn't sit this one out.
I seat what you did there.
Cameleopards, that's why the giraffe constellation is called "Camelopardalis" :)
I wonder if the Dutch misheard it, since in Afrikaans at least, it is kameelperd, which literally means "camel horse".

Thank you. And thanks for watching.

I hope Keith and Brady get along as well off camera.
It's been too long to be faking it.

Adam and Jamie from the “Mythbusters” weren't exactly friends.
It would have been interesting to se the kind of furniture they have around right now!

How you manage to make three chairs into an interesting and intertaining video with loads of history, is simply fantastic.
Thanks guys.

Nothing quite like a Brady video after watching Dirk's video.
I prefer to watch Veristablium AFTER objectivity.
What a premise for a video! Such a fun channel.

Thanks for your kind words.
That last chair looked so comfortable! Such a fantastic episode and a really fun way to take a look at/compare different periods of history!
It was very comfy.
This is such an interesting and comfortable channel.
Really excellent episode. I love ones with a theme, like the clock one.
Thank you
Now, I wonder why that “S” is backwards
It's upside down because 91 is 16 upside down. So if you look at it from the top it still says 1691 but the R appears upside down. It's symmetric.
But S is S upside down...
Well I don't know man I didn't make the chair

This entire channel is just cheeky
Great episode. Instant like.
Oh no! Not the comfy chair!
I confess!
Prepare for the return of the Ottoman Empire!
"this is actually my favorite chair" - say, Is this chair "stored" in Keith's office?
I wouldn't mind another chair video. Please Brady, make it happen.
"The Brady home" ... does Keith think his name is Brady Brady??
Oh wow that was such an amazing episode ! Like three in one good :'D
“Your 18th century gentlemanly bottom”
Pulling out all the stops!
(Don't worry Keith, we love your jokes, Brady's just not allowed to laugh :P)

The backwards S on the 17th century chair caught my eye. Is there any significance to it?
It's like time travel.
Why is the S backwards in the 17th century chair?
Take pity on me, a poor sinner, and please explain how I should use my powers of observation more so I can know what I'm confused about.
Been awhile since I've seen one of these videos pop up
5:30 Fetch the Comfy Chair...
Just a random fact: In my native language, a Giraffe is called a "Kameelperd" it translates directly to "Camelhorse"
Go Rabbit ! ..says the owner of two mini Aussies that can catch squirrels. Havent caught a rabbit yet. 0-5. 2 on 1 even. Rabbits got moves.
Doesn't it bother anyone else that the first chair says "R2" not "RS"? Guessing the original owner was a big fan of star wars droids
Hey Brady, great video! Why is the S backwards at 0:29 ?
It's upside down to make 1691 symmetric.
The S is not upside-down, culwin. S upside-down is S again.
In the Upside-Down it's Ƨ
"Hmm, let me read something that has been recently published"
I see someone likes pink floyd
When is Brady Haran gonna get a Knighthood? Your Majesty?
Ball is largely correct that ice ages are driven by orbital changes.
Speaking of free-booting, I believe Julie Andrews is due a portion of the proceeds from this episode :)
How come nothing from 1991?
What does it takes to be Keith?
CAMELEOPARD > GIRAFFE
I'm going to use this word now.
I suppose a giraffe does look a bit like a spotted camel, but they aren't particularly closely related.
Aw, no 1991 chair?
RS to me means religious studies
3:01 @HoldenCaulfield
Brady, I hope you are wearing a pair of “white cotton underpants” to sit in those chairs ;-)
If you don't have a chair with your initials on it you're failing in life.
