Its weird to hear a 0-100 of 5 seconds being described as 'not especially fast'. When I was growing up, that was the region of things like the Ferrari F360 and hot Lancer Evos. xD
Yeah i was thinking the same, how is 5 seconds considered slow? 😲
Beside for that beast of a car it’s quite ok 5 seconds
Welcome, to the era of electric vehicles lol
In 10 years we'll complain that "it barely melts your face" ... "it just manages to tickle your spleen".
Should have described that as 'fast enough'. Actually more than enough acceleration to merge safely on highways and to overtake.
It’s amazing how our standards have changed these days, but the reality is that it’s not considered very fast for electric vehicles in this segment. But as we mentioned in the video, this car isn’t sold based on its performance, it’s more about the overall experience of luxury and comfort.
They’re honestly doing the big grille implementation better than BMW
Exactly my thoughts
Oh my kidneys

This is quite a good SUV. They are selling them in Norway. I hope Hongqi expands to other European countries including the UK.
Is it a trouble to buy a car named "Red Flag"?
@@xavierxi7100 Of course not.
@@xavierxi7100 it's not the 1950s anymore, no one would give you trouble for having a car named red flag lol
Saw one of these in Oslo last week., All the led lights had failed on one side of the car. 😅
I hope not, the brand name sounds like ‘honkey’ 😀
I am Chinese. Hongqi is very famous in China. Chairman Mao Zedong personally wrote the Chinese character logo. Hongqi is a luxury brand in China!!! Very famous。。 In China, all people who like driving respect Hongqi very much.
I’m a truck guy, honestly this car is the true combination of engineering and traditional craftsmanship .. 100+k is a good price but a little over my budget range 😢
The piano music in this video matches perfectly with this car. Feels so grand and luxury.
Sounds rubbish
The music selection was Let It Be by the Beatles
"it's not really that fast for 0-60 in 5 seconds ..." - dude forgot he is talking about a 3-row SUV as big as the Lincoln Navigator...
Yep! I can't help but feel like he _wanted_ to dislike the car before he even tried it.
Electric SUVs do much better generally, e.g.: Model X P100D (similar curb weight, 2500kg) does it in like 3s. But yeah 5s is stupid quick even for a normal sedan, let alone an SUV.
It really is not that quick compared to the EV competition.
@@Passportbros8 how
Dude has disclaimer also - no. 1 source for news on China automobiles 😂. Yeah you want us believe the crap you say wheelboy. Foreign reviewer trying to pick on high quality Chinese cars...same story.
I wouldn't compare it to Rolls-Royce but it looks very confortable and spacious for a family of +5 people and that's very exciting to know. Thanks for the review.

Hey Daniel!
Lol.. You look familiar.
The literal Rolls Royce of China, the best Chinese car there is, in terms of looks, quality, which is just barely on par with all the best luxury brands
..... Wow, amazing this E- HS9 is...
So, elegant, classy... This is true auto motive art.. Show this to someone who is pessimistic about Chinese cars... Think they are crappy.... Show them this... Everything will blow out of the water.. This is, dare I say, better looking than the present Mercedes and BMW....not to mention imposing and intimidating in a great way... My praise is too much to put here in the comment section...
I used to hate Chinese cars... But from 2 years ago... Not anymore..
The cars from our country are still not mature enough, still needs more generations of customer feedbacks and more experiences to improve themselves. But, considering the price of them, definitely a marvellous value to price.
What happened 2 years ago sounds like an interesting story.
I'm from Indonesia and Chinese cars are popular enough here since last few years, not as much as Japanese car, but in some segmentation & time period they can sell more units than Japanese cars
I personally have a Chinese car from Wuling brand

Who needs a Rolls Royce when I can get this!! 😍

Insecure nouveau rich or people who think that just European brand cars can be real luxury. They are soo wrong this car looks beautiful
That gigantic waterfall grille reminds me of 1970s Chrysler Imperials. I have to admit that I like it, especially with the stunning blood red interior. Well done Ethan!
Love that interior esp the yacht wood
Looks nothing like the imperial grille looks more like the 1975 Chrysler labarron
The Redflag design team has that 1970's 1980's Lincoln Continental style in mind, giving the entire line of cars a distinctive power look. The H9 design is nice.
They want to be the face of Cummunist mobility, red flag is the very symbol of communism. People who are in non communist governed country, red 🚩seem like a bad thing but for communists its a symbol of pride.
Hongchi's design team have tried to understand the design language of cars used by communists (and sometime dictators)in the past and then try to modernize it as per today's standards (and are doing quite a commendable job at it)
@@shiajinn2509 Actually, I own an EHS9 in china. To be honest, I won't even think about purchasing a Hongqi even five years ago. But since Hongqi got a new CEO, Liuping Xu, this brand has really changed a lot by getting rid of the old boring designs. I also own Range Rover in the US, EHS9 is still not good as a proper V8 Range Rover, but still quiet comfort considering it only costs 1/3 of a V8 Range Rover
@@shiajinn2509 idology aside, they did pass that style very well from the original CA72 (owned by Mao)
Toyota needs these Chinese designers and fire their current designers.
Not Chinese designers though. BYD, GWM and Hongqi all hired European designers. Changan has design studio in Italy. Geely has design studio in Sweden and UK.
@@dt8101 ohh I see...no wonder the designs are so European looking
That’s also why they lack a sense of imagination cuz their too lazy to come up with their own ideas
I really enjoy the HongQi new design externally, not just the top tier models, think they really nailed it. Internally there's much to be desired, especially the lower end H5 and such(too much touch interface which means lack of feedback).
it's a brand I definitly won't buy any time soon(more of a Lynk & Co kind of guy), but it's quite interesting to watch it grow into something (hopefully) quite competitive in the domestic market.
I’d buy it if I had the money. Chinese vehicles are well away, and their prices are remarkable
@@riazhassan6570 Yes, even if their long-term reliability still isn't good, competing in the luxury segment in the Chinese domestic market is the place for them to be. It doesn't get much more poorly-engineered than modern German cars, so if a Hongqi can last a month without going back to the dealer it's better than a BMW. If it can last 5 years without electronics failures that take the dealer 3 weeks to diagnose, it's better than a Mercedes or Audi too. When Lexus came out, it took them less than a decade to get respected because the Germans were too expensive and the Americans were too complete garbage, even though there was still plenty of prejudice against the Japanese and their cars in the late 80s/early 90s.
@@seankurth4371 Reliability? I’d have to go Japanese. My 18-year old RAV4 still runs very well, minimal maintenance. Considering the trouble I’ve had with newer (some new) German, French, American and Italian vehicles, I bow to their engineering. Chinese vehicles have been showing up more and more on our roads (Pakistan) and the reports are generally good
The guy who designed this used to work for RR...
@@archangel7052 yep... Same goes to genesis
Hi there from Australia! I really like your videos. You cover all the aspects of these vehicles that an initial video should cover and you do it with clarity and honesty, well done. As a documentary maker of old, may I humbly offer one piece of advice - when you go to start a section that has a cut to it, take at least one or two full steps forward before talking. That gives the editor the ability to cut on the action which eliminates an awkward pause. Your videos flow mostly well but this cutting to a stationary you before you move and speak is not befitting the smooth delivery of your pieces. Otherwise, well done and good luck.
this veh is actually very nice! Great channel. Great to hear in depth details about foreign cars especially in the Chinese market.
How is no one talking about his Fanny pack, I wanna see a review of that beast!
I really am impressed with the design .it's off the 100% mark
Front is quite imposing, just like a rolls!
Much much better than a Rolls!
@@Commentator541 The thing is though, that most of the cars Rolls Royce have ever produced are still on the road. I wonder if the same will hold true of this car?
@@Brian-om2hh Electric is more reliable. There are many Rolls Royces and Bentleys you can get for 15-25k, because they are so unreliable and cost a fortune to fix aswell. It depends totally on the desirabilty of the Hongqui brand.

BMW NEED TO FILE A LAWSUIT ASAP. THESES CHINESE ARE KOPYING THEM LIKE CRAZY.
This car in that color, is just so beautiful and so sculptural, such an exquisite piece of art on wheels.
Tune it down a little. Had I not known you are talking about a Hongqi, id have thought you are desribing an Italian exotic super car. I can hardly see any "sculptural" in that body work. Or any exquisiteness.
@@Checkmate025 Then that's your opinion, the multifaceted front face, of the car, with the chrome vertical "grills" as well as the secondary golden colors gives it a marble temple type of feel, and it does feel like a renaissance sculpture
It’s literally a bootleg Rolls Royce Cullinan

@@Wheelsboy Pity that SAIC owns the Shanghai car marque but doesn't produce any car bearing the Shanghai badge. GM is reviving Hummer as a EV. And SAIC should do the same with the Shanghai marque. The Shanghai car logo is very cool, both retro and futuristic, with Chinese characteristics. It fits perfectly as a luxury EV brand. It will be a miss opportunity if SAIC doesn't revive Shanghai marque...
@@Wheelsboy the wrist shot for your cell phone wallpaper was the first clue. That Shanghai is a stunner!
And the fanny pack??
I love how they go with a more 'old school luxury' feel for the interior instead of how most cars are doing a minimalist design. The minimalist design is cool and all, but if it's supposed to be luxurious, why does it feel like I bought my interior at IKEA.. It'd be better to have minimalist designs for lower end e-cars in my opinion
Sometimes minimalism is sold to us to save money I feel. Replacing all buttons with the cheap touchscreen saves a ton of money to the manufacturer, but they sell it to us as a feature to behold.
@@wantaferrari Yeah, that's what I can't stand about it. Why would I be paying top dollar to help your company save money? I'd much rather spend top dollar to feel that your company is offering its best!
Hmmm... meh. I disagree. It's simply technology moving on. What, are you gonna complain that your smartphone has no buttons too?
Meh
A smartphone benefits you more without buttons.
A car on the other hand looks nicer and has more benefit and is safer to use if it does have buttons

This car is actually for sale in Norway... Starting price is NOK 619 900,- (€62 803)... for the exclusive version the price is NOK 779 900,- (€79 013)
That is really good value
Some of these are on their way to Norway.
True!
Norway gets all cool EVs while rest off Europe nothing
The burgundy interior along with the wood panels & inside a white car looks absolutely 🔥🔥
The colour is not burgundy, it is in the magenta group of colors, some people call it dark pinks. Burgundy is a deeper shade of ruby with an increase of blue to give it the dark richness.
Looks good, well proportioned suv 👏🏻👏🏻🥳
I’ve only seen Short vids of this handsome SUV. The design is top tier
Give them 10 years and they'll be a market leader globally if they keep this up.
This is what Chinese do all the time. Start in a worst position and end up to become one of the best in the world. See the high speed railways, civilians drones, maglev trains, 5G technology, and cell phones, they are all live examples.
Exterior looks great. Doubtless the interior and handling will improve with time.

It is a beautiful car! It may look similar to a Rolls-Royce from the front, but still it looks nice, and even the interior is looking very good! Oh and it also have plenty of horsepower! I am curious what will be the response of the Japanese to this nice EV SUV!
I think the Japanese are more into hybrids like the Lexus GX
The Japanese can build perfect gasoline cars, but when it comes to pure electric vehicles they are babies, while China and the United States are adults.
Red Flag never means lowkey in China, it means power
Nonsense
