Yeah, I feel like a good tweak would be to allow one last chance to catch another fighter before the Elite 4, so you're not going into 6 stressful battles in a row

I definitely think you add more routes as you normally catch more than one pokemon before a gym. Maybe even add in a chance for pokemon to die in routes cause that happens. You could also get smash youtubers to be gym leaders, elite four, and champion. Just to spice it up. Overall, love the challenge and can't wait for the next one!
Edit: Another idea I though of would be to add trainers to routes maybe. To again, make it similar to pokemon. However, I don't want the rules to get to complicated so dealers choice.

This is a pretty cool version of the challenge! Additions you could make would be something like victory road, or the occasional evil team sideplot, but maybe that would make it a bit too long.

I'm glad Hop is actually appreciating Banjo in this challenge. I know a lot of people think he's lame, but I love Banjo so much and ended up becoming my second main due to my childhood nostalgic love of him.

a smash nuzlocke ive seen a thousand times now but the route and elite four idea similar to actual pokemon made this a lot more interesting and may even make me try this one day despite never playing online

I really like this idea! However, I have a few tweaks you could add for a potential version 3.0
You could have different versions of this challenge depending on the Gen of pokémon you base it on. Which means that if it's Gen 1 you could add an encounter for some side areas like Power Plant or even throw in a 'legendary' catch.
Another idea, if you want to keep things more streamlined, is to add one more catch chance after Gym 8 (Victory Road).
Or, perhaps, random roll 1 character about midway to be your gift or egg pokémon (the Eevee in Gen 1, the Togepi in Gen 2, the Wynaut in Gen 3 etc)
I like this challenge idea, maybe you should add an encounter between gym 8 and elite four that would represent victory road, an encounter where you can catch a new character but also lose a character if you lose the game because there's obviously a lot of trainers in there
Gotta love the usage of some Sonic Rush music, such an underrated forgotten Sonic game with a banger soundtrack. Sonic Rush enjoyers rise up!
Despite the unfortunate ending, I thoroughly enjoyed this video! I think the narration added a lot, and I like the structure of the nuzlock. You did really well with a team of unfamiliar characters, and I hope to see you win this challenge in the near future!

This was definitely really cool and you should definitely do this again. I liked the new adjusts made as well. Only a couple more things I would add (some of these other comments already stated):
1. Add a Victory Road after the 8th Gym but before the Elite 4/Champion. That way you can have one more chance at a new team member and it would make it more accurate.
2. Add a few more other routes since most Pokémon games have multiple routes before a gym, so it’s not just oh one chance and then gym time. Maybe base it off of the Kanto map.
3. Around the midpoint(s) of the run, do one (or two) random roll(s) of a new member on the team for free to represent the gift Pokémon (Eevee or Lapras in Kanto for example)

Great change to the Nuzlocke. I think there should be a Victory Road encounter as well, that way you have one last chance to get someone before the 5 matches in a row
I just had an idea how to make the Pokémon Catching System more different from the other fights: Your goal is not to kill the opponent but to grab and then pummel them 10 times in one go. With this method you would need to hurt the wild Pokèmon without killing them in order to catch them.
I like how you did the voiceover stuff of what you’re thinking like poppt has also been doing recently it was a really good watch

The starters should be Rushdown, zoner, and grabber. It is like fire water and grass type.
This was fun but I'd say maybe add a rule where if you get 2 stocked or worse in a catch attempt you lose the pokemon you used to attempt the catch. Since generally that's possible in a real nuzlocke

This was honestly super fun. It took forever but I had so much fun. I lost my first time on my first gym, then started a new “save file” and Got piranha plant on random, got terry, won, got little Mac, won, got Ike, won, got Dark Samus, won, got 2 Terrys in a row then got ZSS, won, got peach, won, got Meta knight, won (but loss ZSS), got doctor Mario, won. Then the elite Four happened. Used Little Mac won, Used ike , lost but then used Plant and won (which was Vs a rob which was my starter on the last save file(also also Plant was one of the starters on the last save file) ), Played peach, won, played Meta knight, won, then since I ran into so many Terrys and my Terry was Popping off for some reason I decided he was the one to bring me home. Finally, I won, it was complete. Thanks for this idea and I’m so glad I did it! Will be watching so much more.
As much as I’m sure lots of other people are adding comments about making it “similar to actual Pokémon nuzlocke”, I feel like this was a good smash adaptation all around. People have to remember you can’t play 100 matches to simulate all the routes or gyms or Pokémon perfectly. Nonetheless, great video and great video idea. Would love to see more. Keep it up Hop.

As soon as I saw this prompt of a pokemon nuzlocke my brain started churcning out ideas.
1. Gym battles could be against either other creators or very strong amiibo with spirits.
2. Elite 4 could be the elite 3 or 5 with a 3 or 5 player smash down with you on one team and the other creators swapping controllers between characters.
3. The champion could be a super beefed up amiibo. Max level and insane spirits.
4. If you wanted you could keep track of stocks in between games for added challenge. ex. When you are fighting the elite 4 online and you lost 1 stock on the first elite member, you'd continue with 2 stocks the next game.

He's been with poppt for too long, now he knows the lame and the hype plays. He's too powerful.
Although this idea kind of takes away from "Elite Smash", since they are near you, you can have the Underdogs stand in for the Elite 4. Cut the Elite 4 in half and fight Cogger, Little Z, with Poppt as the Champion all using their best characters (or ones they just want to play). Using the team you gathered in Elite Smash matches challenge them to a 5v5 Squad Strike and use that team against all three "trainers". If you lose a character or don’t have enough, just SD before the next fight starts. Your team goes through the 3 man gauntlet until you either win or lose. In a Pokemon Nuzlock, you can't swap out team members during the Elite 4 challenge so I feel like the Squad Strike can replicate that feeling.

This was a great video and I definitely want to see more! I have some suggestions for the next one though:
The catch phase seems a bit too easy. Because there is no risk of character death there is no reason not to always send your strongest fighter to give you the best chance at unlocking more characters. To fix this, perhaps a failed catch phase could trigger a second fight in which you must use the character you chose for the catch phase and fight for its survival. If you think this adds too many matches, you could instead replace it with an RNG component where a failed catch phase has a chance of losing the character (maybe 20-25%, small enough that it doesn't always happen, but large enough that it adds an element of risk and tension)
This didn't come up in the video, but there should be a rule about what happens if during the catch phase you are matched against a character you already have. You have very few opportunities to gain new fighters so maybe you should be able to try again if this happens
Additionally, to prevent wins by just stockpiling a bunch of fighters, you can make a rule that when you get to the elite four you must choose a team of up to six of your fighters that you can use to fight in the remaining battles

You could also have rival fights with the underdogs (where they play random) or do online doubles with one of them to represent an evil team section.

Fire red is one of the most nuzlocke Pokémon games. With 52 unique in counters and somewhere around 20ish important trainer battle. So I think you should be able to get more encounters as you do in the game. 2 before each gym and 3 before the start of the elite 4 I think would be the most accurate

That's a REALLY GOOD IDEA
a few suggestions I'd add, to make more hard and close to pokémon.
Add victory road between champions (no catching allowed) and add a progression bar, like all the pokemon you have at start of every match and how much it remains to beat the challenge! To make it easier to follow the video!
At first I thought this was gonna be another lightlocke but this is also pretty cool
I like the concept. I do wonder if perhaps there should be evil team representation along the way? But this simpler design streamlines it. Imo beat it in this fashion next run, and then if you win and want to make it more detailed, you can try adding “Team Rocket fights” or Increasing the number of routes but also Trainer battles as well, perhaps by basing it off of a specific game map/story. It could make for a longer (and more narratively interesting) challenge. That said, cool concept, I might try this myself!
This would be fun to do, especially if you do like an anime-style version where you take one pokemon... err... character to the next region.

Really like the format!
You should change it to allow losses of characters during the catching phase since you can loose Pokémon to random trainers in a nuzlocke, but you get three encounters during the catching phase due to side areas or multiple routes before gyms in original PKMN games. Also make it so if you encounter the same person twice you can’t catch their character because it is a rival battle.
You forgot THE MOST IMPORTANT part of nuzlocks, any feints is DEATH

that's the best idea for a smash bros nuzlocke so far, the only thing to consider for the future is maybe eliminate a character if he dies no matter what

I think this style is more of a gauntlet than a nuzlocke. Nuzlocke would end after you have defeated every character that you could have encountered in elite smash. Would still like to see more of "smash gauntlet" tho
There should be a rival like you fight little z at different points with what he has caught but it was an amazing video
I've seen several people give their suggestions for a hypothetical 3.0 and I just like to throw one in the ring as well you should have to nickname each "pokemon", just like a regular nuzlocke.
I think adding that "pokemon" die on failed wild encounters would be best

This is a cool rendition of the challenge but I think you should make it more like a real pokemon nuzlocke where if the character dies they are dead. If you lose a pokemon to a catch attempt in a nuzlocke you still lose the pokemon

I think you should also have to restart the entire elite four if you lose on any member or the champion since that’s what you do in the games.
i got a good idea. what if it’s like mii fighter pokémon. where moveset starts off as all special # 1 and every win you “learn a new move” and have the option to change one special to #2. once you go through all #2 specials the next level up unlocks special #3
Can we try a Nuzlocke with Amiibos? You will start with one of three starters, beat it up until it LV 10 or something like that, try to catch random one and then procced as usual, beating up other trainers in Gyms. Trainers probably would be real humans too, maybe Underdogs SSBU Amiibo Nuzlocke Tourney (or just USANT?)
So honestly if played correctly not campy of anything like that mega man is actually super hype
I was thinking maybe like increasing the number of gym leader pokemon and route route catch opportunities
Eg. Before the 1st gym flip a coin you get 1 or 2 encounters Same with the gym leader's pokemon
Maybe it increases as you progress and start rolling d6 to see how many chances and opponents you get
It would be a longer challenge but more true to the source?
