There must be be a design flaw in the circuitry. These just don’t seem to work very well on “D” batteries. It does work fine on the internal battery [ which is a lower capacity 18650].
And it works fine on external power [ “Mains”].
It’s no DXer on AM[ MW], or SW, but “adequate “, and fairly typical DSP-based performance, with FM, very good.
It WILL handle a [ moderate length] external antenna , and that definitely helps on SW.
Overall, even with the “D” battery issues, it’s not a bad radio. Sound is quite good, and Bluetooth works well.

Thanks for the info on the D batteries. I have removed them and charged the 18650 and radio is working fine.
Jeff, WHY do both my radios like this NOT WORK with D batteries? I was charging my internal battery and the alkaline D batteries EXPLODED! They sent a new one but D batteries won`t run it either. What am I missing? What steps do I take to use D batteries?
For some reason Everyone has the same problem with the “D” batteries. A design flaw in the circuit. [ One should never charge internal or rechargeable battery, with non-rechargeable batteries in the radio- any radio. Just not a good idea].
Works fine on internal battery, and “Mains”.

@@jeffking4176 I`m gonna have to take one of them apart and find out what`s going on and try to re-route the internal battery connection so I can add capacity because mine won`t run long. I like the radios. One of mine is exceptional as far as reception goes...the other isn`t.

The 18650 battery is smaller capacity than others. An easy swap [ with only 2 wires to solder].

@@jeffking4176 I have a parallel 18650 battery pack that holds 1 to 4 cells in an old broken radio I could remove and attach to it with hot glue.
