This might be my problem. I got code p0420 which said it was the upstream air flow so I changed the top 02 sensor and it cleared the message for about 30 minutes. Now I got the same error code again and the AutoZone dude believes it's the catalytic converter that needs to be replaced. 😡😡
So I did this to 0ur 2015 Chevy imapala lt 2.5. I swapped out the air valve with a new oem, removed the exhaust manifold cleaned it out, installed new freeze plugs, and code came back on.... if the secondary air injection pump is bad, will it cause the same code to come back on???
I have a 2013 Chevy Malibu 2.5 but I don't have a pump installed there..I can see the holes but it's open there..I wonder if the previous owner got rid of the secondary Pump system or if my model did not come with one. I don't have any codes and the car runs okay...
Does this thing make an intermittent whine noise after the engines off? Took the heat shield off to change the water pump and notice a train type of sound that comes and goes every 30-60 seconds for a couple mins. Sometimes i even hear a quiet beep under the hood.
Very helpful video thank you. My car is actually stalling so I'm not sure this is the problem but if it is messing up the back pressure then it could very well affect the vacuum which can cause stalling. I'll dig in tomorrow
You're welcome. Do you have a check engine light? I don't think this issue would cause a stall unless it happened right at startup. This only runs when the engine is cold and started, the injectors pump more gas and this system pumps air to heat up the cat so it starts catalyzing faster

The code referring to secondary intake is the one constant plus multiple cylinder misfires and low vacuum.
I want to do a vacuum system check with smoke but don't have the right smoke and a way to pump it in. I'll clean that valve and look into the manifold. Plus I'm going to check the gas. Might have bad gas but that's probably not why the previous owner stopped driving it and sold it
I also have a 2013 Malibu 2.5L since new and that system is NOT on mine. I bought mine early in the model year so I’m guessing that debacle came later. The port next to the exhaust manifold is there though.
Where do you live? Apparently someone in Cali didn't have the system. Which is weird because usually they are ridiculous about emissions. Unless they have different technology built in

@@JonnyAbs-0 This might be really naive of me but what if you bypassed that system? As in cover the port in the head and simply let that part that bolts on just blow air under the hood. How would it know it’s not bolted up? Makes me wonder how it detects low flow.

I got the PO411 code as well.. When i first start the car, cold, it sounds like a vacuum cleaner for like 30 seconds then stops.. Im gonna pull that part and clean it first because the sound does sound like its coming from right there
no. its only purpose is to pump more air into the exhaust when the engine is cold. It would just take a bit longer for the cat to heat up and you would get a check engine light.

Yes, that's it! Take off the filter and take it apart and clean it with brake cleaner. It would save time to just buy a new one but I think they were like $130 bucks, so if you have time, just clean it like I did. Spray it in the exhaust hole too and then turn on the car and let it blow all that carbon out. Its messy but it works. These GDI engines are sooty as all hell. You get more power and efficiency from the gas being injected right into the cylinder, but apparently the gas burns more sooty with greater particulates.

No, the pump is under the car. That is the AIR valve on the front of the engine. Issue hasn't come back since I cleaned that and the area behind it in the engine using brake cleaner.
do you have a 2.0T or a 2.4L? It should be on the 2.5L and if anything, I feel like in california, you would have even more stringent emissions regulations.
I have a 2014 impala 2.5l ecotec. Im the 2nd owner and ever since i bought this car i dont recalling that black piece being there but the openeing that it goes bolted to is there...my car has no lights on and it has 97k miles. How exactly is that possiblr that a whole piece is missing and my egine is ok??

There's an entrecruzamiento connection alil underneath that opening and it looks caked up and it makes me wonder if that can make the electrical connection go bad. Can't I put like an air filter there atleast? Like a custom one?

@@marcosfelixfrias6621 it runs only at startup so you are hearing it at the right time. However, I never hear mine in the car. Yours could be going bad or it could be clogged a bit. I wouldn't worry about it though if you don't have a check engine light. You could try to clean this valve and see if it gets less noisy.

I Believe that's the NU6 Option which is for California emissions it's a pain in the ass. My mother just paid to replace her Engine in her 2011 Malibu and the engine that went in has 56k on it but the place that put it in for her just so happened to forget to inform her that it is the wrong engine and does no have the NU6 option. So after she spent north of 4 grand for all this I'm trying to find a cheap way to correct it without having to pull the engine and replacing it with the Right Engine. I was just thinking of swapping the ECM to a model without the NU6 option. But Idk.
I just got this error again two years later. I guess I will dismantle the valve, clean it, and reinstall it again.

@@jamiemciver2326 you might need to tighten your intake manifold. There are videos about that. I'll see if I have one

After you cleaned all the carbon and blew out the port from the engine how did it run and was the code gone or did p0411 come back
all gone! so my pump was indeed fine and it was just too much carbon blocking the airflow through the valve. No new parts needed.
I don't know if this problem have something to do with the oil leak on my exhaust pipe

Yeah I just got the code too. Mine is close to 79,000 miles. I'm going to switch out the air filter tomorrow hoping it's just that.

I am just guessing but it might just mean that it won't be intermittent and will stay on until fixed. Once you fix it, it should go away

The 3/3 means what you are reading is first of 3 fault codes.
