- Talk's Ian Collins is joined by International Presenter Isabel Oakeshott to provide updates on the Middle East.
Twelve people including two children were killed and approximately 2,800 injured when Hezbollah devices blew up in an attack on Tuesday, with suspicions quickly falling onto Israel. On the issue, Isabel says this has "serious implications for the region" and Hezbollah "will be thinking about revenge."
The pair also discuss a cashless society as communities have been given new powers to help maintain access to cash.

Cash gives you more power, because you can take your wealth out of the bank. No cash, no independence.
I largely agree with that. I travel a bit and sometimes a hotel may choose to only accept a card. I understand that. They may not want to hold cash for safety or internal controls (employee theft) but the fact of the matter is they are obligated under the law to take cash payment if it is the designated legal tender within that country.
Don't overthink it, just appreciate the incredible ingenuity, creativeness, and intelligence of the Israelis. They are on another level.❤
Well done Israel!🇮🇱🙏♥️
BOYCOTT the establishment that doesn't take the KINGS CURRENCY 😡😡😡
😂😂😂😂 the English won’t except Northern Irish or Scottish “kings” currency
I do
@@trevaudioyeah we do 🤡
drives me nuts when some retailer will not accept the legal tender of the land. It is against the law.
Have you tried spending Scottish money in a UK shop? They look at you like you just made them yourself. WHSmith's , despite their problems, have machines that will accept them...
Not against the law. A retailer or service provider is under no obligation to accept your custom for whatever reason.
When you make a purchase you are in debt to the vendor. Settlement of a debt is a matter for negotiation between purchaser and vendor. Both sides must agree on the form of payment. Thus if a vendor refuses a Scottish note he is perfectly within his rights. Furthermore, for every Scottish Pound printed security is deposited in the Bank of England and that is why you can change a Scottish note at any bank for an English note. The banks send the notes to the BoE and they are repatriated to Scotland. Please do not go nuts.
@@YakovShani by law it is "legal tender" and must be taken by the seller.
@@YakovShani if I make "fake" currency that resembles real currency then I will be in violation of the law. It is a method to exchange goods and services. If I get in a cab and I give him exact change then he or she has a contractional obligation to fulfil the contract, otherwise then the economy will fail to function. Read "definition of money"
audacious - the word of the day, unprecedented!
If they get rid of cash and even worse if digital ID becomes a reality then the amount of control the state will have over an individual is frightening!
there will be no difference between the UK and China
...thing is some people think it is cool! The creeps capitalize on this level of foolishness.
I wish these “conservatives” were 10% as committed to securing a homeland for Brits
It should be illegal for any business to refuse cash!!!
Nobody can blow up my map, my book or my wallet. Ditch your phones, people.
We stand with Israel in Britain.
Except Lammy and Starmer.
Getting nervous yet?
Well, Putin is not amused about Britain and Israel.
Pray 🙏 for 🇮🇱 and the idf stay strong
Really lol, speak for yourself fgs, another MSM victim, there's no excuse for ignorance in this day and age lol, you have the Internet use it. Before making a fool of yourself.
You obviously know nothing about the Israeli illegitimate occupation, in Palestine!! Since 1948 in another man's land, created by the Zionist imperialistic British Balfour Declaration for the Rothschild dynasty, since when the Palestinian people have suffered 75 years of Israeli occupation, their apartheid regime, their genocide, slaughter, during those years and now. Only the UK, the collective, all vassal States of the US, the US are the only ones globally that do not condemn Israel, and obviously people that are brainwashed.
Sorry bud, speak for yourself, we stand for Palestine here in Britain
My pub only takes cash and I'm glad of that. You take out your 'pub budget' and when it's gone, it's gone! Once, we can't use cash we are done. When the Internet goes down, you can't pay for anything.
I use cash mostly!
When you use cash you know how much you are spending!
Cash is king. The bank steal from every transaction via card.
Yeh £50 cash is only worth £50,£50 cyber money is worth infinite to card companies
Cash is king!
What if you're shopping at the seafood store and want to pay with cash? It does sound fishy.
Hezbollah are done, they gonna have to communicate with butter tubs and string now lol
it's just the way war plays off
the cards charge a fee vs. zero fee for cash.
Course they have done another round today with walkie talkies and possibly a few other gadgets
Wait until they try out their new prayer mats
I may be wrong, but I saw an article which stated that pagers don't have 'lithium' batteries - just ordinary ones.
Rubbish how are they going to communicate this 😂😂😂😂😂🏴🇬🇧✝️🇬🇧🏴
The Mobiles And Walkie Talkie's Blew Up Today!
Cashless = Control less
My local chippy prefers cash but will take card payments. It turns out that the chippy's bank charges him £500 a month just for taking card payments, which is an unjustifiably hefty overhead if you ask me. I now buy my cod and chips with cash just to help out a local small business.
I do both cash and card.
Me too
Its a Trap.
Anyone that doesn't accept CASH,,don't employ them .Seriously look up the word, employ.

What happens when the wifi etc goes down and your card doesn't work as the system has gone down
@@traceyrhoden9808 technology is great when it works but when it's down, ur buggered.
Yes, ASDA and Sainsbury
I use mostly cash & occasionally card. Why bother just with card as many who do get into debt more quickly, as they do not keep a record of their expenditure. Tough.😊
The only way you will make taxation fair is get rid of cash transactions.
Cash is king no need for a cashless society
i went to a pubquiz in leeds once and was in complete shock when the barmaid said "sorry sir we're a cashless bar we can't take your £20 note . we dont even have tills like that any more"
The black economy thrives on cash transactions
You spend a lot more money if you pay by card. If you have cash you can only pay what you've got in your purse
Cash is king for a reason 😜
Its against the law not to accept legal tender.
Israel is not at war with Lebanon. This is Lebanon that started a war against Israel without any Israeli aggression
Cash is King
How do you tip people by card?
How to you give a Down & Out person money? Are beggars going to walk around with a cash machine to process your donation?
Who cares about Hezbola
@@PeterMc141 exactly, they are terrorists that destroyed Lebanon.

Glad you mentioned chippies. Actually not cos you're making me hungry..
Cash is King. You sell something at a Garage Sale and receive cash there is no change of a dispute about the goods and payment without the purchaser return to you with the goods!
What about ATMs that tell you it's £1.25 (previously 99p) to access your own money then say this transaction costs £1.50. 🤔🤔🤔🤔
Do your research Talk TV. It's very clear that those explosions were not the result of Lithium-ion thermal runaway. Don't add to the confusion and put mobile phone owners in fear of their devices. Consult an expert before speculating. Worst case scenario is that any Li-ion battery is a fast incendiary when damaged - we've all seen the e-bike footage. That's not what's going on here.
I love cash and use it whenever possible it goes back many years for me at least to the 60s get sick of being told how to use MY MONEY I earned it and I should have the choice how I use it
Moral to story, dont buy lithium batteries that are super cheap
Business are charged a fee for using the card machines. Why would a business be happy to be fleeced on every transaction?
Retaliation how will they communicate with eachother by morse code
Im old fashioned, i use cash. I have my card to withdraw cash from the hole in the wall, but have no interest in using it else where. Cash for me.
I haven't used cash in years only debit cards. Works great.
Just what the government wants to hear.
Wait until CBDC comes in and your every movement is tracked and purchases questioned.
Take a look at China.
Someone else’s comment but funny - Hezbollah is now Hezballess.
The pagers were modified with explosives, they were not, in that sense, 'every day' devices.
CASH is King.........ask charlie boy he had bags of it
Isabel. You are so naive.
When I asked for quotes for some painting work. 4 out of 5 wanted cash. Only one wanted to put it through his books.
4 of the quotes were not much less than that one who would put it through the books. The other 4 were asylum seekers or recently given British citizenship. In their societies cash is the norm and they come from countries that don’t have a taxation system. Doesn’t seem fair when I am taxed on my small savings and others don’t pay tax?
Reminds me of an inscription on an Irish Tombstone “ Here lies Paddy brutality murdered whist lying peacefully in ambush “
Going cashless is the way to social credit score. Reap what you sow.
WHY would you want a Pager or Walkie Talkies ......................Because you are up To NO GOOD
Pages - now walkie-talkies mobiles and solar energy stuff.
Well, solar plates are made in China
Will this eventually result in Lithium batteries being banned on all flights.
Smaller private business's on low margins probably don't want to pay the card fees (c 3%) - not rocket science or suspicious frankly. It does give the government more control as well - look at what happened in Canada when they froze Bank Accounts to punish dissent - difficult to use a debit card in that instance.
My hairdressers only except cash. It's nice to have the option whether you want to pay cash or card.
Haven't used cash for years .
WHAT'S THE POINT.
Third wave: TVs? Teslas?...
Oh dear, Talk do better. The phone in your pocket was made in China anything could be added to the hardware and for the most part listening, keylogging and monitoring your purchases like half the apps do is of far more use than exploding your device. The exploding pagers had 20g of PETN (Russian C4) added according to an Iranian source as yet unconfirmed. BTW, don't use dodgy Hungarian consulting firms for your communications needs. Walkie-talkies have been blowing up today. Presumably semaphore flags tomorrow and carrier pigeons by the weekend.
I don't think we could ever accuse Hamas of 'going back to the dark ages' Isabel. (6:23) For them the dark ages would be a considerable step forward in time.
Only cash, business man they don’t want to pay tax
isobel is such a cutie
I hear semaphore flags are becoming very popular in Lebenon and Syria.
Your broadcasters are not very bright. Of course they added a charge to it. Batteries don't blow up like that, not that much. You're spreading brainless fear.
Cash is king, and I always carry cash. I only except cash sell produce off my parents farm. Why? Because debit machines are a joke to set up and barely fucking work, that's why.
what is wrong with currency it is legal tender what does the King think about it?
people are lazy . they just keep their debit card in their glove compartment , pull into the drive-thru maccy-d's , one bleep and you're done no messing about with coins and stuffz but you are just making bankers very rich and the rest of the world poorer
I have to admit I view my Chinese-made smart phone rather differently now. It always a piece of junk that need recharging daily and the manner mode kicks in of its own volition so it doesn't ring. And when I used to rent an apartment in Penang for the winter, my landlord told me his wife left her phone on charge and it overheated, caught fire§ and burnt down their house. So a bit like Chinese EVs, a hot item.

I was working in a bank when ATMs were introduced. Just recently dawned on me that ATM stands for Automated wtf ? Language is important..
.
love cash - my money how i spend it is my business not the business of the bank or any government organisation
United Kingdom law, rubbish
I would imagine small businesses like chip shops prefer cash because it saves them hoiking over 10% (or more) of the total sale to a credit card company.
Doesn't bother me either way if a shop is cash or card only. I carry both because I'm an intelligent adult with access to both. And am not about to complain about something I can easily deal with.
one more form of uk control
Escalation you say isabel? Like the daily rockets we've recieved daily from Lebanon? Too late to the game I'm afraid isabel
I'm thinking about the Iranian ambassador and more scary David Lammy. You know him who thought Henry VII came after Henry VIII. I'm aware it's no laughing matter but it beats germ warfare. Head above parapet here..... I'll have Putin over Lammy anyday.
Cash only cos small business have to pay unto 5% fees. If your nett profit margin is 10%; 5% can make all the difference.
