    Excellent...it is better to give than to receive esp with sacrificial. Some ppl just give bc they have too much so it wasn't sacrificing, those who has little but still able to give....that's powerful!

    In keeping with the line of thought of the rich , young ruler whom Christ said to sell all his possessions and give to the poor then come follow me" - was that statement a implicit admission of Jesus that this man was a sinful man and needed to atone for his sins to follow Jesus in company? And comparing the rich man to Peter who acknowledged his unworthiness in the initial meeting of jesus, and proceeded to leave everything to follow him, and by doing so became the chief apostle.

      No it doesn't mean that. Every sacrament is very important for our salvation, none is a substitute for the other. It all works together

    • @mohaubereng9315
      @mohaubereng9315 5 років тому

      Well, there are many things that atone for our sins, but they always do so in the context of venial sins. When we are in mortal sin, we have no other choice but to face confession. And yes, maybe our almsgiving if it goes together with perfect contrition may result in our mortal sin being forgiven, but the tricky thing about relying on perfect contrition is we never know if we are perfectly contrite. And perfect contrition if it is to be perfect, apart from being sorry for offending God, we must also desire confession as soon as we are able to. So there is absolutely no way around confession, we need it. Yes, God can forgive us without it, but we will never really know. The only way is to go, face Him and deal with it. This means we rely on nothing but His word and the merits of His death and resurrection, to be brought from death to life, and this word of His, we hear in the words of sacramental absolution. But prayer, almsgiving, receiving the Eucharist, and many other holy acts, continuously purge our venial sins and effects of mortal sins. Through all these actions God continuously and progressively purifies us of all the dirt(rather than pulling us out of death and into life)...even if we're alive, we acquire dirt everyday, and God uses these and other ways to keep purifying us, preparing us for Heaven. I was recently watching Fr. Mark Goring on not settling for purgatory, showing how according to many mystics and visionaries, there is so much suffering in purgatory, even though it's for those not in death but in life. So it is extremely important to keep offering to God for our atonement, be it through the mass, prayer, almsgiving, and many other ways, but not to avoid confession.
      Short version of my comment: Confession atones us of mortal sin, and almsgiving atones us of venial sin and effects of mortal sin.

    Hey, how about the panhandlers? I think this is still controversial even among Catholics. I say give them some cash, others say no it hurts them because it feeds the addiction that is killing them slowly. It's like helping suicide. Can you weigh in?

    • @paulmiller3469
      @paulmiller3469 5 років тому

      Instead of cash, you can offer your time in getting to know them. After a while, you can figure out who is in real need. Throwing a couple dollars out a car window probably isn't the most effective way to go about it.

    • @ArizonaWillful
      @ArizonaWillful 5 років тому +2

      The assumption here is that anyone panhandling is a drug addict or alcoholic. How do you know? Since Reagan closed down all the state mental hospitals, a lot of mentally disturbed people are just wandering the streets of our large cities. They need help since no one is doing anything for them. And if a panhandler is an addict, who are you to deny them something that they are heavily addicted to out of self-righteousness? Have you ever gone through withdrawal? I went through a withdrawal from a medically prescribed drug clonazepam (given for anxiety). It was the worst pain in my life. So do not let your self-righteousness convince you that sending an addict into withdrawal and possible death is "good for them". Yes, it would be idealistic for such a person to be clean from addiction, but at their current low state, perhaps that addiction is all that is keeping them alive. Until our society has free mental and physical care for such people, like every other Western nation has, I think it is just cruel to deny them a dollar or two to make it through another day. Afterall, how many respectable working people are taking an anti-depressant or anti-anxiety medication they get at CVS or Walgreens? These are also extremely addictive, but we get them from doctors in clean white uniforms in lovely clinics for the middle class.

    Romans 3:21-25 KJVS
    [21] But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets; [22] Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference: [23] For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; [24] Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: [25] Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;
    After baptism one needs to confess their sins.
    1 John 1:8-9 KJVS
    [8] If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. [9] If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
    I try to remember to say the Our Father every day so as to be cleansed from all unrighteousness.

    Hebrews 10:12-14 KJVS
    [12] But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God; [13] From henceforth expecting till his enemies be made his footstool. [14] For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified.
    1 Peter 4:1-2,8,12-13 KJVS
    [1] Forasmuch then as Christ hath suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves likewise with the same mind: for he that hath suffered in the flesh hath ceased from sin; [2] That he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh to the lusts of men, but to the will of God. [8] And above all things have fervent charity among yourselves: for charity shall cover the multitude of sins. [12] Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you: [13] But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ's sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy.
    To walk in the fruit of the Spirit often requires a degree of suffering and self denial.
    1 Corinthians 13:4-13 KJVS
    [4] Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up, [5] Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil; [6] Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth; [7] Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things. [8] Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away. [9] For we know in part, and we prophesy in part. [10] But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away. [11] When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things. [12] For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known. [13] And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity.
    Love your neighbor as yourself!

    The giving of charity to the poor is part of the Torah. This is a core teaching of Judaism. The Torah and the prophets teach us that the LEAST effective means of atoning for sins is through shedding blood. God doesn’t need blood to be shed in order for sins to be atoned. The Hebrew Bible teaches us that the most effective means of atonement is through sincere repentance, Teshuvah. Jesus taught this message, because he was a Jew. We must hold to the faith OF Jesus vs. the faith ABOUT Jesus. They are two different messages.

    I like how you used Luke 11:41. I was curious to see how you would justify that claim. That's a stretch to go from cleansing ...to go to "a cleansing from sin." Jesus is not using this verse to say any such thing. It's about the attitude.The meaning of the verse is "give the inner things as alms". Jesus is saying that there must be a right attitude when one gives to the poor, and when that's right.."all is clean". Has nothing to do with a "cleansing from sin". The context proves this, look at it..
    And the Lord said to him, "Now you Pharisees cleanse the outside of the cup and of the dish, but inside you are full of greed and wickedness. You fools! Did not he who made the outside make the inside also? But give as alms those things that are within, and behold, everything is clean for you.
    Luke 11:39‭-‬41
    That Pharisees were filthy on the inside, and Jesus' point. Get the inside right, that's where you need to be cleansed. This verse has nothing to do with atoning for sin. Sorry.

      Dr. Pitre is perfectly put in my opinion. I just drive myself like Pharisees or a thief. If I stole something and I want to redeem/clean my sins, I would just ask God to forgive me and I will donate what I stole or give alms. I will do more if I want to. By the grace of God, I will be forgiven or clean. Another gift for God, is I go to Confession. To absolve me for my sins. God bless.

      To understand what Jesus means by cleansing one has to understand what is meant by being clean and unclean in the books of the Old Covenant, which Dr. Pitre certainly does.

    no catholic should despair about alms giving , Our Catholic is the largest non governmental charity organization in the world--to the leper, to the blind, to the aged, to the widow.to the poor, to the sick, the prison inmates, to the children and youth the schools, colleges across the globe,.there is none like it and yet you will never hear about it,. Our Lord (Mathew 6:3) taught us: let not your right hand know what your the left hand is doing .
    when oh, when Lord ,did we do all these?, your little offerings at your local Church on Sunday, during the offertory made a difference.
    Ever so often you hear the billionaires use a bullhorn to proclaim about their charities . But it is stained with unclean intentions to seek goodwill for their companies .
    true charity is hidden just like Our Lord taught us..

    RELIGION is what a man thinks of what he does that will merit favor with God. SALVATION is the Lord Jesus himself what he did on the cross to save his people from their sins. Apostle Paul wrote: men will be judged according to my gospel . Jesus says in the gospels. I only come to the lost sheep of Israel. That’s The Jews! Although the Jews as a nation rejected Jesus; Then Salvation came to the Gentiles through Paul’s writings: When Jesus did appeared to Paul, our gospel today is Romans through Philemon: Ephesians 2:8-9 were saved by grace through faith not by works. He then will come back to the Jews during the Tribulation period: After the Christian Church is out of here ,caught up in a twinkling of an eye. Then Hebrews through Revelation is dealing with the Jews again . That is why the first verse in James he is writing to the twelve tribes of Israel. Jews! He is Back to Give Salvation to the Jews again. But a different Dispensation: That is why James 2:24 It’s works plus faith; Remember the Bible cannot contradict itself! But Paul’s says no works but grace through faith for our Salvation today. The Catholic Church is under a work Salvation. They are very wrong! The Beauty of Paul’s writings through Jesus Christ is that a Christian knows he is going to heaven, And the man of God is made perfect until Good works: Alms giving ect....Those are Kingdom rewards. Jesus already payed the price for our sins. Catholics let one man decipher the Bible for them: ,And he doesn’t even rightly divide the word of God called Dispensation! Remember scripture says it is of no private interpretation, Study to show yourself approved unto God. My Catholics friends put some Bibles in your church pews?. How many times have you ever heard a priest tell you to read your Bible . I can bet none! Because their not allowed to interpret the Bible ,they have to leave it up to the Vatican. Your leaving your Salvation unto a priest instead of what God says in his word. Ephesians 1:13 In whom you have trusted after you heard the word of truth the GOSPEL OF YOUR SALVATION and you believe your sealed with the HOLY SPIRIT of promise. Please I am not writing for a debate: I love my Catholic friends very much! You need to know the truth! Any Christian that does not believe in dispensation is not a Christian!. If you say no to it ? Then build an alter to kill a lamb for your blood sacrifice. That is what the Bible says in the Old Testament. Remember there is fruits in the whole Bible for us to read, but not all of it should apply in our lives today. For your Salvation today. A= Amit your a sinner B= Believe that Jesus died was buried And resurrection on the third day and C= Confess your sins with your whole heart and you will be sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise. Titus 1:2 In hope of eternal life, Which God cannot lie, promised before the world began.
