Thanks for this. I just purchased a Pelican 1600 case for a SHTF setup with 3 pistols and a 10.5” AR pistol. Man that thing has a lot of room. You can also buy more foam to do different setups depending on what your doing. I’ve got 4 guns, 3 holsters and mag carriers, 7 full AR mags, 13 Full pistol mags, 100 round box 9mm and 120 rounds extra 5.56, sling, knives, flashlights and medical gear in it. I’m gonna get a Ten-Speed Chest Rig to throw right on top and I’m covered. Just use the lower layers for extra boxes of Ammo and other slower access items. It’s awesome. I’ve still got room with all that. And can redesign it in some areas. Great peice of kit.
Any chance you'd be willing to share the layout? I'm looking to put together something similar with the 1600...will be my first purchase with Pelican.
Why didn't you put the pistol in there vertical instead of horizontal?
Got some of the plano gun cases and I chose to use an electric knife to cut out the inserts, makes it a lot easier to get a good fit on those items with curves and such.
Nice quality and versatile. I've always wanted one of these for my pistol collection.
Love the Pelican cases. I need a bigger one for rifles so will have to look at this as a possible option.
With the bottom layer of foam where you didn’t cut like under the pistol you could easily store something under there as well

Spray your foam with Plasti-Dip after you pluck it to prevent the issues you describe.

What would work well for cutting your foam would be a very thin and long razor blade.
You can find one like this with the "Olfa" brand blades. They're very reasonably priced.
I've used them for nearly 30 years and they have many uses. Mind you, they do have
break-away tips. So you'll need to be "gingerly" while cutting..but they will do the job
very nicely. I've used them from installing 54" commercial wall coverings, down to
very intricate and detailed work of all kinds. email me at sccm@usa.com if you need further details, and I'll gladly help you out. You've inspired me to make a "travel" case
similar to yours. My case will hold a 16" and a Citadel .45 with their respective
accessories.
