A great advert for Tailfin. Love mine and impressed with their after sales service. Last year I needed to replace a lost fastener on mine (now 6 years old), a tiny torx screw & part of the original AeroPack/AP20 quick release catch. They sent one to NZ from the U.K., in about a week, no charge, and I'm not a world-famous UA-camr :)

In Canada, they have a show called "Red Green," in which lead characters bodge together items. Your fix of the tailfin rack reminds me of those projects. I also fancy myself a handyman with unorthodox fixes like yours: zip-ties, gaffer and electrical tape, and seat belt webbing. As Red Green says "If the women don't find you handsome, they should at least find you handy!"

the bend on the top is easy to get back in shape, friend of mine had a fallen 4 times in a day on the side of his tailfin and we bended it easy back in shape by just pushing on the bag when another holds the bike... its not prerfect but it almost got straid and he rode another 15 days to the finish of the GDMBR

Be careful on the Hell Ride lots of car drivers along Beach Road are not too welcoming. Other than that you’re in for a great time.. Enjoy and stay safe. 👍

Tailfin have always been super helpful and given great support in setting my bikes up for road, gravel and mtb. We all make stupid mistakes such as these when faced by mother nature, patience, frustration or simply crashing out. The most epic for me was crashing out of PBP in 2023 - on a fast descent clipping another riders back wheel (all my fault) - ending up in A&E with a fractured collar bone. Aside from a few scuffs on the carbon arch, the integrity was not compromised.

Just a question.....are the side panniers from Tailfin too small for your laptop? Why you are using a side bag only for the laptop? I thought (thats why I have bought them) they will fit an 13" MAcbook Air and keep it dry (the bags are waterproof). Unfortunately for our bike packing trip in Japan in April I havent found an option for booking only dry weather.

My Tailfin cracked when its mount snapped in June, I managed to do the last 200km of that trip in 2 zip ties holding the remains of the mount to to the mounting point. They replaced it free of charge and I now carry the mount which was still good as a spare, as well as bits of wire, tape and zip ties.
2000km bikepacking since then without incident, for a total of 10000km with fully loaded Tailfin. (2x ultra durable 22L panniers)
