Arlo, if you haven't, turn down your brightness in handheld mode. I feel that a lot of people don't consider brightness when talking about battery life, but it makes a huge difference.
Same reason my cell phone battery lasts so long, lower that brightness and use manual brightness control, saves a lot of power. As does turning off data when not using it, and obviously leaving the gps and bluetooth turned off when not needed.
I usually keep my screen brightness up to half or below on my phone and switch. But even for my switch it last only about 2-3hrs Max and it kinda sucks cause I like to go out and play with friends on the go alot
@@Hi-uv7nn Yeah. It's silly. Literally all they said was they didn't want to announce any new hardware at E3. They never even intimated that they weren't making it. They specifically went out of their way to say they wanted the news focus of E3 to be on the 2019 software lineup, but that they're always working on ideas for new hardware. Besides.. no one seems to mention or realize this, but LITERALLY none of the supposed "leaks" were real anyway. All of the images "leaked" were fakes and some of them were even several years old and stolen from people musing about future Switch redesigns right at launch.

People are really overthinking the whole "it's a Switch that doesn't switch" thing. Switch is literally just a brand at the end of the day, and if they were to call it something different, it'd just confuse the average consumer.

Tbh people complaining about “a switch that doesn’t switch” I just think of the “switch” as name of the system, not necessarily it’s function. Like if you play a 1 player game on the wii you could argue “oh this game is on a system meant for family play, it’s called wii! not me!” Switch is now franchised to the name of the console not it’s function. Plus what else would they call it? The games for the system are called Switch games, they can’t take the word “Switch” out of the Lite’s name or people will get confused and think switch games don’t work on the lite. I'm super glad Nintendo is using adult actors in their switch ads. Because as a kid, I was more attracted to products that adults were using in ads, cos if a kid was using it my false sense of maturity would kick in and say "wow I don't wanna use a BABY (product)". And of course the new ads help combat the old "Nintendo is for kids" mindset that so many people still have. Overall it was a very good decision
Yeah, people shouldn’t be saying Nintendo was for kids. The only reason people say that is because it was a marketing decision during the fall of the video games, and Nintendo put their new console in the kids isle and not the electronics. That’s the main reason people think that. There’s also the cartoony thing, but you see adults playing fortnite. Nintendo for kids is mostly the reason we are playing video games today.
It’s Nintendo’s way of letting the 3DS die without angering 3DS consumers. I mean, think about how some people would react if Nintendo straight-up said, “Yeah, the 3DS is dead. We’re done with it. You should buy a Switch!” It’d be like when Sega said, “The Saturn is not our future.” Even though that was totally true, it was still a slap in the face for those who were invested in the Saturn. Nintendo did something similar with the GBA when the DS launched. Back then, they said that the DS wasn’t replacing the GBA. What they were doing was testing out the viability of the new DS while keeping their foot in the door with the already successful GBA. That way, if the DS flopped, they could have gone back to the GameBoy line without major problems.

You’re very right about the price drop getting people to finally buy a Switch. My coworker has been going on about how bad she wants a Switch but doesn’t want to drop $300, and when I told her about the Lite she freaked, she’s gonna get one as soon as she can.
Nintendo doesnt have an official company representing them on Brazil anymore (since 2015 I think?), so any store who sells Nintendo producs (and a lot dont do it anymore, at all) has to import themselves the products and pay the exorbitant taxes our governament has. No jokes, its 100% for companies and 60% for people. So a Switch on a store here sells for USD 600~ish. Again, no joke. You can find shady stores who 'import' through Paraguay and skip the taxes selling it for less (abour 400ish USD), but thats beyond the point here. The point I want to make is that this one will be a 400 USD Switch on Brazil, which is just great. I will finally be able to afford a Switch. And just so you know, minimum wage (which most of the population lives by) is about 260 USD/month.

As an example, there was a Chinese company here, Foxconn, producing the iPhone in national soil, so no importantion taxes would hit it. But then again, producing an iPhone in China has a 25%~ lower cost, so why would they make it here right? They started it on 2015 and stopped doing so on 2017. No wonder the Brazilian iPhone is the most expensive in the world. I dont even like Apple to begin with, but thats only to show how business is made.

@@dreamclub9830 regular joy cond drift gently or not. Its hardware not your too rough kinda issue. Its a matter if being lucky or not if the sensor gets scratched. My 3rd pair is drifting a few months after warranty wore out. I dont get expensive things often I take very good care of such products

This appeals to people like me who play the Switch in handheld almost exclusively because I am always on the go. (although I already have a Switch and I don't need another one.) I also have small hands, so size doesn't matter.
I got a switch lite because I simply don't need it to dock to a tv. If I want to play a game on my tv, I'll just play on my Xbox because of the better graphics, higher frame rate, and greater processing power.

At my Best Buy I was looking at the Switch Lite’s they had on display (I already own a Switch) and one of the employees came up to me. She told me how certain games ARE compatible and how others aren’t. So I think certain Best Buy’s (or at least the ones near me) are aware.

If you actually compare the dimensions of the OG switch to the Lite, and look at how the OG fits into the dock, you'll see that the Lite won't be able to fit due to the control sticks getting in the way. I guess that's why it doesn't support docking. It still would have been nice to have some sort of USB connector that could plug into the dock and then output to the TV/monitor but the next problem may be that it could interfere with a switch thats in the dock. Or, Nintendo could of make a dock revision seeing as the current one literally a USB hub that outputs to the display. The new one could be smaller, supporting the Lite and the OG and mabye even give them a performance boost with hardware inside it self. But knowing Nintendo, there's a 95% chance they'll never do this.
Minimumderp The Lite has a redesign Tegra X1 chip. Which is more battery/energy efficient. With the Switch in portable mode, it dumbs down the system so you’re not killing the battery in an hour. Hence 720p resolution. When it’s dock, it goes all out on power because it’s basically connected to the wall outlet. Thus being able to produce 1080p. So that’s why it won’t be dockable.
@JAMESON DUNCAN Well he has to buy a system and the games either way. Not sure why he needed another controller, as the regular Switch comes with Joycons. The only thing he'll be saving is the $100 on the system, but he could've found a used regular Switch for $200 or less.
I can confirm that it matters which game you're playing for the battery to last almost 6.5 hours long . Splatoon 2 is almost 5 GB large so I usually can get 1-2 hours of playtime not docked or on the charger, while with botw I can get two more hours of playtime (4hrs). They should sell protectors for the SLite like they had for the 3DS lol.
I think they should make reprints of the boxes for games such as mario party or labo with labels to warn people that they aren't compatible with the switch lite.
A permanently docked version of the Switch would make sense for a family with a living room TV and a bunch of kids with Switch lites. Cloud sync would ensure everyone can still play their games both handheld and on the go. And it would make sure the “console” on the TV is always available.

Honestly while having it on the big screen is great at times I play mine 80% handheld but I already have the og so I'll wait for the pro and see what that's brings
(3:40) That doesn't make sense. They usually make text larger on TVs because you are much further away from them, compared to PC. That's why the console UI have larger elements and larger text compared to what you find on your PC. So everything should be very easy to see in handheld mode.
You personally definitely should be worried about the battery. When playing Fire Emblem: Three Houses, I can usually barely get 3 1/2 hours out of my switch (which is an old model). I would suggest checking your settings, like brightness.
JoeBroShow to be honest this monstrosity that replaced d pad for joy cons is still better than the pro controller's d pad. And the one used for switch light looks very similar to pro controller's.

That's a concern that I have, regardless of how realistic it is. That would definitely be worst case scenario. Until they find a permanent fix or design the joycons significantly better, I'm not getting a Switch Lite. I'm happy with my Switch (the newer one with better battery, etc) as it is.
@@leeannpelletier4117 We shouldn't have to resort to fixing the drift ourselves. Nintendo should have originally chosen a better design for the joycons, rather than choosing a faulty one. This whole situation could've been prevented. Even after admitting it was faulty and not designed well, they continue to release new products and joycons with the same or similar design. Definitely not an example of "Nintendo Quality" that we are so used to. Greed seems to have plagued Nintendo for the time being, especially when it comes to the Switch and joycons.
What I don't get is, maybe you would know why? why don't Nintendo give you or sell separately a powerbank, that can attach in a nifty way to the handheld so when your battery is dead or dying you can attach it, leave it for an hour or whatever in your bag and it'll recharge it on the go, having a set up where you charge your for example Lite and the power bank at the same time, (while attached) would be a great selling point, also if you turned up somewhere, a friend's house or cafe whatever and you had already uset your power bank to recharge the device you could charge your powerbank back up while there, instead of having to plug in your actual device. Or something like phone's, a protective case that has a built-in power bank.
I was originally gonna get the switch lite because I didn't care too much about playing on the tv but then I changed my mind and got the new red box switch. I don't regret it because I play a lot more on the tv than I thought I would.
Despite the joke I made earlier, I think it will be a successful system. Primarily because families who want multiple Switches will be able to do that much cheaper.
Magikazam I guess it’s perspective. The lite version just seems like a newer psp, can’t play with others unless they have one sitting next to you, compared to the normal switch. I would price it at $125 or so, $200 is not really worth it when the normal switch is $300. You get a lot more for the value

The switch marketing is the best I've seen for a console since the 90s, kids never think something is cool if it's advertised as "kiddy" and they want what the older kids have, and older audiences are alienated by advertisements showing mostly kids, so using young adults basically allows them to say it's for everyone
I think most people are more bummed that a pro wasn’t revealed alongside the lite. The two cater to two completely different demographics. I’m thrilled that I can now feel comfortable buying one for my nieces and nephews, but it’s not for me. I’d prefer a Switch “Pro.”

I hope the 'joycon' part of this one is more durable and works better than the detachable ones then. Honestly, if it's a handheld only version, I'd have preferred a slightly BIGGER screen, not smaller.
Here's the thing, Nintendo realized that the main selling point of the "Switch" isnt the fact it can switch. It is the games. The games are why people buy the console.
@jesus barrera I dont play it on my regular Switch because I squeezed all the content out of that game in the first 3 days, so I'm not all that torn up about it. And buying the Lite, and then deciding you want to buy Joycons later doesnt sound all that bad. I have my Switch, I love it, but my Joycons rarely come off the system. I play smash with a Pro controller, but that's about it. And even that, I do in handheld mode most times. And when I dont feel like doing that, i play Smash with Joy cons attached.
I honestly disagree. If it was only about the games, the Wii U would have been a success. I think the marketing is more important for a console to be successful.
I just bought the regular Switch a little over a week ago and I'm really happy I went with that instead of the lite. I love interfacing with it on the TV as a stationary console and I don't think I could handle having it just as a handheld. Don't get me wrong, it's awesome in handheld mode too.
just turn the screen sideways and mount the joycons near one end. both have an arm processor after all and I'm sure the rest of it is powerful enough to emulate the graphics
I actually thought there was a chance they might include a 3ds slot on the lite. It makes sense when you remember that every other Nintendo handheld since... forever, has been compatible with the previous generation. Every one of their handhelds has at least worked with one generation past. This is the one that breaks that tradition. Well, it is what it is. What will make or break it I think is how rugged it is. The original Switch is pretty fragile, especially for kids. The lite will have to be able to take a little more abuse if it's gonna take it's place the the Game Boy/DS/3ds family tree. Without the joycons as a fail point that should help a lot, but we'll see.I hope they're using better sticks too, cause if they're similar to the ones in joycons there will be some pissed off lite owners when they get drift and have to replace or open up a whole console to fix it instead of a controller. Either way it's going to sell like fucking crazy at Xmas this year. Especially if they do a Pokémon bundle. Probably be this year's "hot item", and I'm sure there will be "shortages" as these things usually go.

It's not that confusing. It's a great option, especially for households with multiple Switch players. I bought a full Switch for each of my uncle's three kids - a Switch Lite would have been perfect for some of them instead.
Considering that they stopped making 3DS games having a new, less expensive handheld makes a lot of sense. If you are questioning why it exists then you are not the target. I miss my 3ds, it was so convenient and had a great battery life. I can see this as something for homes with two kids into games.
The best way to sell something too kids is to have teens and adults playing with it. They lookup to use and playing something there cool older brother love makes them feel matter. (like a grown-up)

The way they work the HD rumble into all their games is actually amazing. Like, Mario Odyssey useit constantly, adding this great tactile feedback, like when you collect coins or use the moped. Removing that's going to feel weird.
I’m scared of the joycon drift if the joycons are attached it sounds like even more of a pain to fix but the better battery and yellow colour sounds awesome

Also turn wifi and bluetooth off when not playing online of something. That saves a TON of battery

Removing the rumble is also a big move to save batter life. Nothing sucks your power faster than moving parts.
Should be an option to disable rumble instead, so you can have it available if you want.
But switch lite owners won't be able to stick it up their ass to much effect.

Tbh people complaining about “a switch that doesn’t switch” I just think of the “switch” as name of the system, not necessarily it’s function. Like if you play a 1 player game on the wii you could argue “oh this game is on a system meant for family play, it’s called wii! not me!” Switch is now franchised to the name of the console not it’s function. Plus what else would they call it? The games for the system are called Switch games, they can’t take the word “Switch” out of the Lite’s name or people will get confused and think switch games don’t work on the lite.

I'm super glad Nintendo is using adult actors in their switch ads. Because as a kid, I was more attracted to products that adults were using in ads, cos if a kid was using it my false sense of maturity would kick in and say "wow I don't wanna use a BABY (product)". And of course the new ads help combat the old "Nintendo is for kids" mindset that so many people still have. Overall it was a very good decision

The only reason people say that is because it was a marketing decision during the fall of the video games, and Nintendo put their new console in the kids isle and not the electronics. It’s Nintendo’s way of letting the 3DS die without angering 3DS consumers. I mean, think about how some people would react if Nintendo straight-up said, “Yeah, the 3DS is dead. We’re done with it. You should buy a Switch!” It’d be like when Sega said, “The Saturn is not our future.” Even though that was totally true, it was still a slap in the face for those who were invested in the Saturn.
Nintendo did something similar with the GBA when the DS launched. Back then, they said that the DS wasn’t replacing the GBA. What they were doing was testing out the viability of the new DS while keeping their foot in the door with the already successful GBA. That way, if the DS flopped, they could have gone back to the GameBoy line without major problems.

You’re very right about the price drop getting people to finally buy a Switch. My coworker has been going on about how bad she wants a Switch but doesn’t want to drop $300, and when I told her about the Lite she freaked, she’s gonna get one as soon as she can.
Nintendo doesnt have an official company representing them on Brazil anymore (since 2015 I think?), so any store who sells Nintendo producs (and a lot dont do it anymore, at all) has to import themselves the products and pay the exorbitant taxes our governament has. No jokes, its 100% for companies and 60% for people. So a Switch on a store here sells for USD 600~ish. Again, no joke.
You can find shady stores who 'import' through Paraguay and skip the taxes selling it for less (abour 400ish USD), but thats beyond the point here.
The point I want to make is that this one will be a 400 USD Switch on Brazil, which is just great. I will finally be able to afford a Switch.
And just so you know, minimum wage (which most of the population lives by) is about 260 USD/month.

As an example, there was a Chinese company here, Foxconn, producing the iPhone in national soil, so no importantion taxes would hit it. But then again, producing an iPhone in China has a 25%~ lower cost, so why would they make it here right? They started it on 2015 and stopped doing so on 2017. No wonder the Brazilian iPhone is the most expensive in the world. I dont even like Apple to begin with, but thats only to show how business is made.

They cant add docking capabilities with homebrew. There will be no Video output on a hardware level. You cant solve that with software.
At my Best Buy I was looking at the Switch Lite’s they had on display (I already own a Switch) and one of the employees came up to me. She told me how certain games ARE compatible and how others aren’t. So I think certain Best Buy’s (or at least the ones near me) are aware.

The games that aren't compatible are very very few. 99% of its game work on lite.
If you actually compare the dimensions of the OG switch to the Lite, and look at how the OG fits into the dock, you'll see that the Lite won't be able to fit due to the control sticks getting in the way. I guess that's why it doesn't support docking. It still would have been nice to have some sort of USB connector that could plug into the dock and then output to the TV/monitor but the next problem may be that it could interfere with a switch thats in the dock. Or, Nintendo could of make a dock revision seeing as the current one literally a USB hub that outputs to the display. The new one could be smaller, supporting the Lite and the OG and mabye even give them a performance boost with hardware inside it self. But knowing Nintendo, there's a 95% chance they'll never do this.
Minimumderp The Lite has a redesign Tegra X1 chip. Which is more battery/energy efficient. With the Switch in portable mode, it dumbs down the system so you’re not killing the battery in an hour. Hence 720p resolution. When it’s dock, it goes all out on power because it’s basically connected to the wall outlet. Thus being able to produce 1080p. So that’s why it won’t be dockable.

I can confirm that it matters which game you're playing for the battery to last almost 6.5 hours long . Splatoon 2 is almost 5 GB large so I usually can get 1-2 hours of playtime not docked or on the charger, while with botw I can get two more hours of playtime (4hrs).
They should sell protectors for the SLite like they had for the 3DS lol.
I think they should make reprints of the boxes for games such as mario party or labo with labels to warn people that they aren't compatible with the switch lite.

You personally definitely should be worried about the battery. When playing Fire Emblem: Three Houses, I can usually barely get 3 1/2 hours out of my switch (which is an old model). I would suggest checking your settings, like brightness.
You can tell I play too many 2D platformers because when I saw the Switch Lite my first thought was "WOAH, A D-PAD, I NEED ONE!"

Even after admitting it was faulty and not designed well, they continue to release new products and joycons with the same or similar design. Definitely not an example of "Nintendo Quality" that we are so used to. Greed seems to have plagued Nintendo for the time being, especially when it comes to the Switch and joycons.

I can make my Switch battery last around 4 hours usually, even in games like Zelda, since I always turn on airplane mode and adjust the brightness.
What I don't get is, maybe you would know why? why don't Nintendo give you or sell separately a powerbank, that can attach in a nifty way to the handheld so when your battery is dead or dying you can attach it, leave it for an hour or whatever in your bag and it'll recharge it on the go, having a set up where you charge your for example Lite and the power bank at the same time, (while attached) would be a great selling point, also if you turned up somewhere, a friend's house or cafe whatever and you had already uset your power bank to recharge the device you could charge your powerbank back up while there, instead of having to plug in your actual device. Or something like phone's, a protective case that has a built-in power bank.

I was originally gonna get the switch lite because I didn't care too much about playing on the tv but then I changed my mind and got the new red box switch. I don't regret it because I play a lot more on the tv than I thought I would.

Magikazam I guess it’s perspective. The lite version just seems like a newer psp, can’t play with others unless they have one sitting next to you, compared to the normal switch. I would price it at $125 or so, $200 is not really worth it when the normal switch is $300. You get a lot more for the value

I feel like they're hesitant about advertising specifically to kids because of the Wii U, and the marketing flop that was.
The switch marketing is the best I've seen for a console since the 90s, kids never think something is cool if it's advertised as "kiddy" and they want what the older kids have, and older audiences are alienated by advertisements showing mostly kids, so using young adults basically allows them to say it's for everyone

I think most people are more bummed that a pro wasn’t revealed alongside the lite. The two cater to two completely different demographics. I’m thrilled that I can now feel comfortable buying one for my nieces and nephews, but it’s not for me. I’d prefer a Switch “Pro.”

Here's the thing, Nintendo realized that the main selling point of the "Switch" isnt the fact it can switch. It is the games. The games are why people buy the console.

@jesus barrera I dont play it on my regular Switch because I squeezed all the content out of that game in the first 3 days, so I'm not all that torn up about it. And buying the Lite, and then deciding you want to buy Joycons later doesnt sound all that bad. I have my Switch, I love it, but my Joycons rarely come off the system. I play smash with a Pro controller, but that's about it. And even that, I do in handheld mode most times. And when I dont feel like doing that, i play Smash with Joy cons attached.
I honestly disagree. If it was only about the games, the Wii U would have been a success. I think the marketing is more important for a console to be successful.
I just bought the regular Switch a little over a week ago and I'm really happy I went with that instead of the lite. I love interfacing with it on the TV as a stationary console and I don't think I could handle having it just as a handheld. Don't get me wrong, it's awesome in handheld mode too.
How do you find hidden moons in odyssey without the rumble?
I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure they just said no hd rumble, so there could still be some sort of vibration

They can use sound where it gets louder “Bing” as you get closer, I’m sure they will figure it out.

just turn the screen sideways and mount the joycons near one end. both have an arm processor after all and I'm sure the rest of it is powerful enough to emulate the graphics
I actually thought there was a chance they might include a 3ds slot on the lite. It makes sense when you remember that every other Nintendo handheld since... forever, has been compatible with the previous generation. Every one of their handhelds has at least worked with one generation past. This is the one that breaks that tradition. Well, it is what it is.
What will make or break it I think is how rugged it is. The original Switch is pretty fragile, especially for kids. The lite will have to be able to take a little more abuse if it's gonna take it's place the the Game Boy/DS/3ds family tree. Without the joycons as a fail point that should help a lot, but we'll see.I hope they're using better sticks too, cause if they're similar to the ones in joycons there will be some pissed off lite owners when they get drift and have to replace or open up a whole console to fix it instead of a controller.
Either way it's going to sell like fucking crazy at Xmas this year. Especially if they do a Pokémon bundle. Probably be this year's "hot item", and I'm sure there will be "shortages" as these things usually go.

It's not that confusing. It's a great option, especially for households with multiple Switch players. I bought a full Switch for each of my uncle's three kids - a Switch Lite would have been perfect for some of them instead.
Considering that they stopped making 3DS games having a new, less expensive handheld makes a lot of sense. If you are questioning why it exists then you are not the target. I miss my 3ds, it was so convenient and had a great battery life. I can see this as something for homes with two kids into games.
The best way to sell something too kids is to have teens and adults playing with it.
They lookup to use and playing something there cool older brother love makes them feel matter. (like a grown-up)

The way they work the HD rumble into all their games is actually amazing. Like, Mario Odyssey useit constantly, adding this great tactile feedback, like when you collect coins or use the moped. Removing that's going to feel weird.
