There is ABSOLUTELY a key fitting on the cassette to the freehub body. Do not tighten without making sure it drops on. I destroyed a cassette and freehub thanks to these instructions
I over tightened mine and it stripped slightly, it still holds however I haven't tried to tighten using a torque wrench - have I just blown a £350 cassette?
I have a question. is it all wheelsets brands that have the possibility to install XDR? or only a few wheelsets can use XD/XDR? my bicycle still uses a wheelset from the factory. a little bit worried can't install it and must buy a new wheelset. note. I'm still using 9-speed. wanna upgrade to 12-speed. and still, use Shimano and I wanna convert to SRAM.
Ultimately it depends on the hub. If the hub you have had an option to install an XDR Freehub then you should be good to go. I’d contact your hub manufacturer to see if they have an option for you.
Thx ! I still have one question for which i still not have found an answer. Since there are 12-speed MTB cassettes, why would i still want to buy a XD hub instead of an XDR one. With XDR i can use all cassettes. The MTB cassettes with spacer and the road cassettes with no spacer. Why is XD still in use ? Should i buy an XDR for my MTB or an XD hub ? Thx !
XDR is the best option. XD is old and being phased out. Even if you have an XD bike you can use an XDR Freehub with a spacer. We no longer sell XD freehubs.
When you say end cap do you mean the end cap on the axle? If so these would be the same. If not can you explain what you mean further? XD cassettes will work on an XDR freehub with a 10 speed spacer but an XDR cassette will not work on an XD freehub.

You may want to have it looked at. It’s tough to say without taking a look. A good shop should be able to diagnose this.

@@flo_cycling My bicycle is Cannondale. I'm still using the standard wheelset called "Cannondale, double wall, 32h"
I’d reach out to Cannondale to see if they have a part for you. Hopefully they do.
Thx !

@@flo_cycling Thx very much ! That is what i was suspecting but could never read anywhere. 👍
there's a torque spec for tightening that you might mention
i should be around 40Nm :)
Hello, is an end cap xd compatible with a freehub xdr?

XD cassettes will work on an XDR freehub with a 10 speed spacer but an XDR cassette will not work on an XD freehub.
It feels like an ordinary cassette flywheel,
