    Right, so what you're basically doing is:
    ab = 10*(a+b-10) + (a-10)(b-10)
    which becomes:
    ab = 10a + 10b - 100 + ab - 10a - 10b +100
    ab = ab
    I like these video's. Simple pratical tricks that we can prove to work are helpful to learn. Thanks for uploading.

    You can actually do this with numbers of different tens digits...
    14*23
    Multiply the number on the left by the number of the 10's digit of the number on the right and add it to the units digit of the number on the right.
    14*2=28
    28+3=31
    Do the same as before with the numbers on the units.
    4*3=12
    310+12=322
    If it's the other way around...
    23*14
    Add the number on the left with the units number on the right multiplied by the 10's digit on the left.
    23+(4*2)=31
    Continue on...
    4*3=12
    310+12=322
    Let's try something else...
    16*49
    16*4+9=73
    6*9=54
    730+54=784
    49*16
    49+(6*4)=73
    ... 784
    You can do it double-ended if neither of the numbers in the 10's digit is one.
    81*44
    Multiply the number on the left by the 10's digit on the right.
    81*4=324
    After that, multiply the units digit on the right by the 10's digit on the left.
    8*4=32
    324+32=356
    Do the same as before with the units digits. Multiply them.
    1*4=4
    Multiply the answer 356 with 10 and add 4.

    How do you know when to multiply the first two digits of your answer and when not to? Ex. for multiplying base 20, you doubled up 25, but then when multiplying base 100 you didn't multiply the sum (107) by a further 10? do you only do it when not on base 10, 100, 1000? What is the terminology for this exception?

    This video is amazing , I have my one technique too of multiplying two digit numbers
    Example :
    13 x 12 =_____
    First multiply numbers in the tens place the 3 to 2 , the answer is 6 right?
    So
    13 x 12 =__ 6
    Then add the number in the ones place , 1 + 1 = 2 (everyone knows that)
    So
    13 x 12 = 26
    Easy =]

      The trick to 9s is really easy. 9x7 =63. the answer will always = 9.
      9X1= 9
      9X2=18 (1+8 = 9)
      9X3=27 (2+7 = 9)
      9X4=36 (3+6 = 9)
      9X5=45 (4+5=9)
      9X6=54(5+4=9)
      9X7=63(6+3=9)
      9X8= 72(7+2=9)
      9X9= 81(8+1 = 9)
      9X10=90 (9+0 =9) Look at the answers and ull see a pattern

    wat about numbers like 22*13

    • @burndjburn
      @burndjburn 9 років тому

      davia williams works better with numbers close to base 10 (at least easier head math in most cases). You can do it, but have to compensate for the base 20 and base 10. 22+3 = 25, then 2*3 = 6. 256. This is wrong, so what's happening here under long way is the 3+25 when you add up the numbers... giving you 286. Personally a little hard keeping all these variances in your head when trying to do it on the fly. But if you're in a pinch it works but probably easier doing it the way you're more accustomed.

    how we can multiply 10 x 25

  • @sofiavaldez3020
    @sofiavaldez3020 10 років тому

    so from 10-19 you use base 10, from 20-29 you use base 20, from 30-39 you use base 30? Isn't that too complicated because what if 45 times 20
    ..so basically this technique only works when the two numbers are of the same base?

    12×21= 300 how in smarter way pllzzz teach me

    • @TheNardow
      @TheNardow 8 років тому

      +Abhishek Motwani In this case I believe you must choose the lowest base: 10. 12 is 2 more than the base, therefore you need to add 2 to 21, which equals 23. Now, because 21 is 11 more than the base, you now need to multiply the 2 (from 12) by 11, which equals 22.
      Because the base is 10, we can only have one more digit after 23 and so, we need to merge the two numbers together:
      23
      22 +
      _______
      252
      And there is your answer.
      Hope I could help!
