    I learned a lot from this video. I hope to buy a side scan sonar for finding targets to explore, while diving, on our state's largest lake. I can see I would have made many mistakes in buying the wrong electronics for my boat.

    Thanks for this nice lecture. Is there a reason for completely ignoring AUVs? Some of the problems you mentioned during your presentation could be solved by using an AUV. So I'm just wondering why it is not even mentioned.

    Hi there, thanks for the comprehensive lecture. Do you mind sharing why would sonar transmission in air damage its transducers?

    • @SonarTechSkills
      @SonarTechSkills  3 роки тому +1

      It wouldn't in most well built transducers. However, because of the vibration (Frequency is vibration) they can heat up and crack in some systems using certain materials.

    Amazing overview - Are there freely available MST/ XTF / side scan sonar software packages around that you can recommend? (looking to play around with some data for my university studies :) ) Would be amazing to see things in a waterfall type view :D (or is sea scan survey free software? That's amazing if it is!)

    • @SonarTechSkills
      @SonarTechSkills  2 роки тому

      Sea Scan Survey from Marine Sonic is only used with Marine Sonic sonars, but it is free to download and I can send you a survey file to play with. All side scans or sonars in general will come with their own software. However, there are several Collection and Post Processing software packages available like Sonar Wiz, Hypack, and Sonar TRX. All at different price points with different degrees of tools and user friendly ability.
      MST & SDS are proprietary file Formats for Marine Sonic and XTF is the universal file format for the industry. MST files are used on systems pre 2009 and SDS is the primary file system after. We have free convertors that will transfer MST to SDS to XTF. If you are working with an after market software package you will need to convert to XTF.
      With All that said, Id be happy to help. You can start by going to MarineSonic.com and registering for the site. Once registered you can download SeaScan Survey (You won't need the drivers unless you have a sonar). Then shoot me an email (My email address is in the last few min of the video) and I'll send you a survey or two that you can play with. I also have a video showing how to use the software but its pretty intuitive. Hope that helps...

    Hello Sir, we are looking to purchase an imaging system that allows us to "see" the bottom of a inclinated dam wall down to 40 mts deep, before we put divers in the water to install sealing fabric over cracked areas of the wall, need to have the most possible good definition, depth reading , measuring the objet observed and GPS location, all data to be set on a mosaic graphic plane
    Hope I could make myself clear in my explanation Spanish is my mothers tongue

    • @SonarTechSkills
      @SonarTechSkills  Рік тому

      @@joseanunez5309 I would recommend the Marine Sonic ARC Explorer MKII 900/1800kHz Side Scan for the Survey. It has a built in variable angle bracket and adjustable transducers designed specifically to do vertical images as you described for the seawall. The 1800kHz will give 0.5cm resolution to see the details in the cracks and fabric. marinesonic.com/product/arc-explorer-mkii
      A mosaic image would be created in a separate post processing software. There are several of those to choose from different at price ranges. Hypack or SonarWiz are the two professional software packages that I would recommend, but if you are on a budget then SonarTRX is an OK option.

    What is the cost of the side scan sonar?

    • @SonarTechSkills
      @SonarTechSkills  11 місяців тому

      Depends on make, model, brand, and how deep you need to go. Of the professional systems you can expect to pay around 50k. The system I would recommend is the ARC Explorer MKII from Marine Sonic that comes with everything needed to get to 120’ of depth. It has a max depth configuration of 300’ and choice of chirp dual simultaneous frequencies of 600/1200kHz or 900/1800kHz. Let me know if you would like more information.

      @@SonarTechSkills Which type of side scan sonar would you recommend for Dredging? This dredge works is for a Port so that it can allow for bigger vessels to pass through and anchor.

    • @SonarTechSkills
      @SonarTechSkills  11 місяців тому

      If you are using it for Dredging you will probably need to precisely measure depth and width down to about 65 feet. The Explorer MKII 600/1200 will do everything you need and be able to map out the coordinates. You may need an additional piece of software like Hypack, Sonar Wiz, or Sonar TRX so you can create a geo tiff chart overlay depending on how you need to display the results.
      If you are doing advanced dredging around cables, pipes, tunnels etc. The client may want Bathymetric data too which is a different type of system.
