I love designing and building cabinets. My very 1st job was in a cabinet shop way back in 1968. I wasn't there long, but long enough to peak my love for woodworking and cabinet making. Oddly though I spent 42 yrs working for my family's concrete contracting company and I retired in 2012. I never lost my passion for woodworking and over the years I accumulated all the tools to furnish a nice shop and woodworking and cabinet making was my avocation for most of those 42 yrs.
Although I am only a cabinet and plywood manufacturing company workers, but after this period of wood industry can understand, I found that there are still a lot of fun, let's keep moving forward in the field we love.
I'm wanting to learn cabinet making for a while now and this is the first video that genuinely show you how to build in a easy and minimalistic way. Thank you Wes!
Me too! My house was built in 1930. Everything is a weird size, shape, etc. I have so many things to work around that I can't imagine how much it would cost to build what I want. Besides I want to try, I can always hire someone....but trying is all the fun! :)
Wes, this was my first chance to see your video’s, I really appreciate your attention to detail. I agree with other viewers on the approach you shared with us. Thank you
I've been living with ugly kitchen cabinets for 23 years. I've watched many videos on this subject, but Wes I will reference your videos when I start building my cabinets. Thanks for sharing your knowledge with us newbies 🥰
The angle of the piece for the bump-out on the open section is the same angle that you cut the floor piece. You just have to cut it like you'd cut a piece of 45° crown molding. Stand it up at 45° between the fence and the table and turn the table to that angle with the blade square at 90°. If it's too big for your miter saw just cut a scrap piece of crown molding and the check the angle. I don't build cabinets but I've been a carpenter for 32 years.
Thanks so much for this video. I've watched a lot of how to build a cabinet videos but I love how you really simplify your builds. Gotta ask though, what color stain did you use on the white oak?
Well done Wes.I would have turned entire cabinet on all three sides to fit fourth panel-there on the angled side that was up in the air.Just my 2 cents worth
Wes, Nice build. Timing is everything. I am looking to make something very similar and like the stain color. I know you said it was custom, can you share the mix? thanks.
Hello Wes! The work you put into this video is very much appreciated. Could you fill me in on the exact size of staples used to construct the cabinets. I’m having trouble finding a wide crown stapler, that’s able to take 1 3/4” staples. Would a narrow crown stapler work for this with 1 3/4” long staples? Thanks again
Hi...the stapler I used is actually a medium crown stapler and there are several models available on Amazon that will shoot 1 3/4" length staples. Thanks, Wes
Beautiful cabinets. I’m just learning how to do these for my own home and your tutorial has helped tremendously. Only question I have is how do you do the micro shaker doors?
Hi Bill...interesting you would say that, most followers commented that the big shop was intimidating. I have now opted to show what can be built with a small shop and garage set up. Thanks, Wes
@Woodworking With Wes awesome to watch you either way. I am working in a 400sqft woodshop and it's small, but I've got a lot of decent tools that are on mobile bases. Our jurisdiction limits us at 900sqft and eventually want to get to that size. You do nice work. Thanks for the reply.
I am buying a house and can't wait to get started putting all of your experience to good use. @Wes have you thought about adding an approximate price disclosure to your videos? You may do this in other videos but I haven't seen them all :-)
Hey, great video. I have a question, do you have any reservations about putting particleboard in wet areas such as bathrooms? If so, what steps do you take?
It is 1/2" wide (large crown) stapler. It's an old gun that I purchased at Pawn Shop years ago :)) Sorry I don't know the brand. Thanks for watching, Wes
(Wes' morning meeting) How can we make our videos different than others? Maybe we can turn the volume up until it distorts... Or use a shaky hand cam. No one uses tripods anymore. Keep it authentic. ;)
While your skills are excellent, the choice of materials are questionable. When we put in our kitchen we were told that particle board wouldn't stand up to a granite countertop. I truly feel this won't last very long. Staples and melamine aren't exactly "fine cabinetry". I'm sure it's the budget of the customer keeping the quality at this level. Congratulations on the looks of the cabinet's as they look great. Sorry you had to work with such poor materials. Great job.
I am sorry you were given such poor information when you built your kitchen. There are many types of quality material available for kitchen construction. Particle board with a melamine finish is one of them and widely used throughout the cabinet industry. I have never had to replace a cabinet based on the material I used or the construction method I employ because of excessive countertop weight in the 45 years I have been in the business. Thanks, Wes
If someone told me that their level of craftsmanship wouldn't hold up and I had to upgrade the material to compensate for their lack of ability... I'd kick them off the job site.
Woodworking with Grandpa Wes. What a great way of passing down decades of experience to the next generation. Thank you. 😊

Very nice work Mr Wes. 👌I like the custom design, and you did an awesome job getting around those unusual angles.👍👌👌👌

Thanks so much for this video. I've watched a lot of how to build a cabinet videos but I love how you really simplify your builds. Gotta ask though, what color stain did you use on the white oak?
Hi...t was a Sherwood wiping stain that was provided by my client. Sorry I can't provide further information, I just don't have it. Thanks, Wes
Wow!! That came out amazing! Thank you for the upload
Glad you liked it...thanks for watching, Wes

Thank you for your comment. I have done a video showing how to make the doors...ua-cam.com/video/crUCLFcmgF4/v-deo.htmlsi=jZBrhHMewhgw__FL
Great work! That awkward cut in the shelving unit would be very easy if you cut it nested on the miter saw like crown moulding
Thanks for the tip...appreciate you visiting the channel. Wes
Beautiful!
Thank you! Wes
Great video, more like this
More to come...thanks for watching! Wes
I want to be like you when I grow up
Haha...that's a good one !! Thanks for watching, Wes
You are speak a lot !
But your job is very good.
Congratulations.
Ernani from Brazil.
Can you do a video on how you applied the white oak veneer to the Inside of the one cabinet?
Hi...it was just a white oak veneer plywood that I built the cabinet out of. Thanks for watching, Wes
awesome vid. maybe turn gain down on microphone as it comes raspy sometimes
Hi...good suggestion, thanks for watching, Wes
Nice wes, you are such a good teacher, it would be great to work with you.
Saludos desde México!
Well thank you very much for the compliment. Appreciate you visiting the channel! Wes
I enjoy your videos very much. When you staple cabinets together are the staples glue collated? And where can I purchase them?
Thanks
Hi...yes, the staples are glue coated. You should be able to get them from hardware or home improvement stores. Thanks, Wes
Love your videos Wes
Glad you are enjoying the channel. Thank you very much!! Wes
i do enjoy your video sir wes
Thank you so very much!! I appreciate your kind comment, Wes
Hello! Your videos are phenomenal! May I ask what shade Sherwood wiping stain you used? I love it! Thank you!
Sorry...it is a custom mix provided by our customer. I don't have the shade available, thanks for watching. Wes
Do you have a video on the drawer/door face build? I like the profile am looking to make ones like this for my kitchen
Yes...here is the door build for this project:

Thanks for watching, Wes
Those doors look great. How wide are the rails and styles?
Sorry I thought I indicated it in the video but I believe they were 1". Thanks for your comment and for visiting the channel. Wes
Better to use plywood or melamine for carcass building?
Nice build. Did you lose access to the big shop you used to use? I enjoyed seeing all the amazing tools you had there.
Hi Bill...interesting you would say that, most followers commented that the big shop was intimidating. I have now opted to show what can be built with a small shop and garage set up. Thanks, Wes

Yes...check out our last 2 videos for cost comparison (console, buffet). Thanks for watching, Wes
Good work can I hv this training ❤
Hey, great video. I have a question, do you have any reservations about putting particleboard in wet areas such as bathrooms? If so, what steps do you take?
The melamine finish is water resistant. If a raw particle board edge is exposed, it can be caulked or sealed. Thanks for watching, Wes
Great way to build cabinets if you want to make no money doing it
Master!
Is that chip wood or plywood.?
is the blue gun a medium crown stapler? what brand is it? model? please
It is 1/2" wide (large crown) stapler. It's an old gun that I purchased at Pawn Shop years ago :)) Sorry I don't know the brand. Thanks for watching, Wes
What blade do you use for your table saw?
Hi...my melamine blade is an 80 tooth (triple chip). For all other cuts, I use a 50 tooth combination blade. Thanks for watching, Wes
@@WoodworkingWithWes Thanks.
Why do you use mdf? would plywood be okay too? What are the considerations that go into the decisions made? :)
It's particle board, not mdf. It's a cheaper material. You can use plywood.
I'm assuming you went with mdf for cost savings?
Yes that and availability. Thanks for watching, Wes
Thank for sharing 😄😄
And thank you for visiting! Wes
Art❤❤❤
👍
Nice cuts and build but dang is that an ugly stain.. also are you spraying clear lacquer without a mask? Thanks for the vid it was informative
Is that melamine?
Not me thinking
angle = invtan(opp/adj) or
angle = invsin(opp/hyp)
or angle = invcos(adj/hyp)
👉💥💯
Can I work together with you? I am samaddar Rubel from Perth western Australia
Hi Samaddar...that would be a long commute to work! 😀 thanks, Wes
The drawers are higher than the doors ouch.

14:39 Work smarter not harder. Use the full flat side L😐
It was really hard to watch... Invest in a microphone... Stopped watching very quickly
